Title: Changes for next week against the Pies?
Post by: one-eyed on July 19, 2025, 11:31:07 PM
Campbell will miss with concussion. So that's one forced change.

Fire away with your changes?

Balta’s available

But and I've been thinking about this for the last few weeks, I'm leaning towards him playing VFL for the remainder of the season

Green will come in for Campbell

Yeah no VFL game makes it very difficult for anyone except a forced change due to injury. So Campbell is defs out but was there any word on Faull? Looked like he rammed his face straight into the back to McCarthey’s head and busted him open.

Wasn’t there a practice game for the VFL side or something? Thought I heard them say on the broadcast that Lynch played a practice match. Wonder if Armstrong also played.

Not a praccy match as such just 2 teams having a run around together. We played against Sandringham

I expect Noah will come in for the forgotten man Kosi. Which is disappointing because although Kosi hasn't done much stats wise he's been solid in giving Faull in particular space to be the lead up tall forward

I think Green's kicked 6 goals in the last 2 VFL matches?

Have to reward form and replace like for like.

Balta could maybe come in for Trainor if he's sore or tired - had an extremely quiet game after the first 1.5 quarters. But Miller and Young aren't going anywhere.

Balta Ruckman relief for Nank and around the ground marking option down the line  :clapping

Team Tips:

Just one forced change looms for the Tigers following their 49-point win over West Coast — their biggest winning margin under Adem Yze — and first time winning back-to-back games since 2023, with Seth Campbell suffering a concussion in the fourth quarter.

Steely Green, who booted three goals in the VFL a fortnight ago, shapes as the obvious like-for-like Campbell replacement, while fellow small forward Jasper Alger is an outside chance at a recall.

Yze named an unchanged lineup for the first time this year going into the Eagles game; hence, after last Saturday’s domination, there shouldn’t be many unforced changes as the club prepares for its toughest test of the season against Collingwood.

But big swingman Noah Balta should return to the senior side for Sunday’s fixture — his 10pm curfew now lifted — but given Tylar Young’s solid intercepting play down back, Balta could again be deployed up forward; most likely at Jacob Koschitzke’s expense after the ex-Hawk finished as the side’s lowest-rated player last Saturday. Could Balta play a negating forward role on Darcy Moore?

First-year key forward Harry Armstrong, who was made available last week but didn’t play as the VFL side had a bye, should return to match action this weekend, while Kane McAuliffe (quad) could also be considered for a return through the reserves.

Yep, play that big bodied wing role and chop out for Nank in the ruck

Yep, I've been all in on Balta as defense only, but he has been so disrupted this year and our second ruck is a problem that moving him around for the last few rounds would not be such a bad thing. He is like an extra midfielder when in the ruck!?

Balta has been rubbish this year. I will fair dinkum spew up if they gift him a game. Go back to the VFL and earn you place first.

I'm interested to know from those suggesting Balta comes straight back in

Who do you drop?

Have a feeling I know who the scapegoat will be

You think the scapegoat will be Miller?

And no way should he be dropped

Think Kosi will be dropped for Balta, but I don't agree with balta playing forward.

No, I was thinking "The Forgotten Man" Kosi would be given the boot for Balta

Miller and Young are going nowhere for sure

Plating Balta for the sake of it will hurt structural his no forward

No, I was thinking "The Forgotten Man" Kosi would be given the stuff for Balta

For god sake give yourself an upper cut if you want to play kosi ahead of balta

Laughable how quickly some forget how good Balta is.

Absolute gun at his best is what he is.

Kosi is a dud. Should never play again

That's not in dispute but right now, this season he is nowhere near his best

His worst footy is panels above Kosi’s best footy.
It’s not even a discussion let alone a debate

Balta is at his best when he is in a well organised well drilled defence with leaders around him. I don’t believe he can lead a defence or be the best player in a back 6.

In the Mix - Round 20

Sarah Black

24 July 2025

Noah Balta is available for the rest of the season, having now served his court-ordered curfew for an assault conviction, with Jacob Koschitzke the most likely to give way. Campbell will come out of the side after his head was collected by Tim Taranto’s hip, opening the door for the return of Jasper Alger or Steely Green, who booted three in the last official VFL match. Alger (ankle) played in a VFL scratch match on the weekend, as did draftee Harry Armstrong (hamstring), who is available this week. Sam Lalor has undergone hamstring surgery and is expected to start pre-season on time in November.

You reckon he'll get dropped for Balta?

I mean he's not going to the VFL this week.

If you're talking trade...heck we'd be mad to unless he's a steak knife for Reid.

Yeah he had a super quiet game. I was wondering if he got injured?

Apparently blight is one day off a contract extension ..

I reckon he'll get it by negotiation, but not at the expense of a game from Miller or Young at this stage.

I was thinking the kosi spot but balta looks the obvious option

Notice he’s been playing on the wing as of late. No spot for him on defence with miller, young, broad, vlas, short, banks I guess.

I saw him tagging Reid also before half time

Make him a Ruck and give him basic instructions written in crayon with stick figure simplicity so he understands the role. He can use his athleticism to make a difference around the ground.

He ain't got the footy smarts for key forward or key defender. Like mostly all ruckman it's ok to be a dumb dumb.

I think he will excel as the athletic ruckman that can get away with doing something stupid every game because he has midfielders that can cover the stupidity and mitigate any potential damage.

Meanwhile he can take that crucial grab down the line and roost it 60 metres into the forward half.
It just makes sense because hes got the athletic strengths to make it work for us.

He can eventually become first Ruck and we can develop another kid like Sims.

Unlikely he is any worse than kosi as a forward. ..

Armstrong and Sims are good prospects but in reality he has them covered too for some time and Lynch is cooked.

Trainor has being playing as a wing. Doubt balta would be any worse short term.
