Richmond is delighted to announce triple premiership player David Astbury will join the Club’s board at its October meeting 👏
Astbury will fill a casual vacancy created by the retirement of 1980 premiership player Emmett Dunne, who is stepping down after almost nine years of service on the board. The Club thanks Emmett for his unwavering support and commitment during his tenure.
Astbury is excited about returning to Tigerland.
"I’m extremely humbled to be appointed to the board of an organisation that has given me so much," Astbury said.
"I was provided with incredible stability as a player, and am excited by the opportunity to give something back.”

No idea about his specific credentials but from my rudimentary understanding he is a very intelligent and decent person.
Probably an astute appointment.

He is an Engineer and a Gentleman , I think it’s an astute choice .

Interesting, don’t mind it at all.
Have been thinking lately that I wonder until we start to see some old premeriship players find their way back to the club

I think board members need to bring something unique in skills set that is lacking in the current board.
What does he bring? We don’t need another board member who’s done the AICD course isn’t enough for mine. It seems all they do is wallow in governance and risk appetite without actually doing what they are supposed to do which is support the delivery of more flags or raising money that then helps us build facilities to support the infrastructure for the playing group. All we know is that he’s an ex player that has won 3 flags. Dunno.

Dave Astbury has been a recently retired footballer and if that brings some balance, football experience and prospective to the board it’s a win in my humble opinion . True , a good board need a balance of experience and buckets of patience and goodwill

“…wallow in governance…” happens so much, there must be a course of some sort in that.

It’s the AICD director course.

Think having a football person on the board is essential. Good stuff.
