AFLW Injury Report: Round 6, 2025
AFLW High Performance Manager Eliza Morrison provides the Round 6 Injury Report, as the Tigers prepare to take on St Kilda at RSEA Park this Sunday.
Grace Egan: Groin, Test
"Grace had some adductor soreness during the week," Morrison said.
"She unfortunately missed the game on the weekend, but we are hoping the symptoms have settled enough to fully train this week and be available for selection for the weekend."
Tess Lavey: Hamstring, 2-4 weeks
"Tessa is tracking really well," Morrison said.
"She is returning to speed and training drills, and we are really excited to keep building her back to matchplay over the next couple of weeks."
Montana McKinnon: ACL, Season
"Unfortunately, Monty suffered a contact-related injury to her left knee in a ruck contest during our Geelong game," Morrison said.
"Following scans, it has been confirmed that she has re-ruptured her ACL. We are shattered for Monty and will support her through the recovery process."

Match about to start.
Overcast conditions.
-
McKenzie has a shot but touched on the line.

Raining now.
-
Soccering the ball in the wet worked then. Went through a bunch of players to Scott who snaps the first goal of the game.
Rich 1.1-7

-
Dempsey crumps front and square off the Scott contest but the snap misses.

Quarter time
Richmond 1.2-8
St Kilda 0.2-2
Goal: Scott
Is that the first quarter we've won all year? Been a while.
Rain clearly helping us. Make the game more contested and less reliant on skill. Quarter played mostly in our forward half. Had about 6 intercept marks playing a spare or two behind the ball. Problem is we don't score which has the been the problem all season so far.

Centre clearance from the start of the 2nd qtr. Ford on the run from 40 nails the goal :gotigers.

StK 0.2-2

Terrible defending. No organised teamwork. Dropped mark, fumbling and losing our feet (granted it's wet weather footy). Soft goal to concede.

McClelland good chasing pressure forces the throw-in by the point post. McKenzie gets the free 25 out. Goal! :gotigers

Don't handball in the back half in the wet :facepalm. Lucky it didn't cost us.
-
Ford tackled without the ball 35 out. Doesn't make the distance though. St Kilda clear. No score.
-
Brainfades in D50. First Beruldsen on D50 giving away a dumb free. Then we get pinged for HTB (Dempsey over the ball) and give away 50 for a push.
20 - 15
-
When are going to get a tackle coach down to Punt Rd who can teach proper tackling technique?! :banghead.
More panicking in D50 and everyone asleep at the free kick and the Saints get another.

Richmond 1.2 3.2-20
St Kilda 0.2 3.3-21

How to lose a 2 goal lead in the last 4 minutes before half time :facepalm.
----------------------
Two goals against the grain for St Kilda gets them in front by a point. Just four forward half intercepts for the quarter, yet all three of their goals for the term have come from this source. In contrast, the Tigers had nine forward half intercepts in the first quarter and only scored one goal.

We just have no system. It's just make it up as you go.
-
I have no words

Well that just sums us up. Go inside 50 and our two forwards spoil each other (Scott goes back into Brennan). Ball goes down the other end, mistackle and a St Kilda goal to kill us off.

Lost by 7 points.
More inside 50s and clearances yet lost again.
Another brilliant coaching display ::).
-
Can hardly wait for the excuses today.
Can anyone tell me what the plan was in final qtr? Against the breeze and we clearly had no plan, made no adjustments
Cannot see us winning a game this season now.

Final Score
Richmond 1.2 3.2 4.5 5.6-36
St Kilda 0.2 3.3 3.4 6.7-43
Goal: McKenzie 2, Scott, Ford, Greiser.
Lost to a team that went goal-less for two quarters. No system nor organisation across the park, especially inside F50 which is just embarrassingly bad :facepalm. Nothing will change until this inept coach is sacked. Club is absolutely clueless for resigning the dud :thumbsdown.

Injury-hit Saints condemn Tigers to sixth straight loss
By Kaitlyn Ferber at RSEA Park

ST KILDA has denied Richmond a chance of snapping its losing streak, prevailing in a close seven-point win over the Tigers in a thrilling, wet affair at Moorabbin on Sunday afternoon.
The rain was heavy and persistent in the first half, with the slippery ball resulting in a low scoring start that eventually picked up pace to culminate in a 6.7 (43) to 5.6 (36) contest.
But the win wasn’t without damage to the Saints' midfield, with Molly McDonald going down with an injury to her ankle in the third quarter, whilst young gun J’Noemi Anderson also hobbled off the ground with an ankle injury in the fourth quarter.
It was a defensive game across the board, with St Kilda’s seven inside 50s in the first term producing just the two behinds, whilst Richmond pushed a touch harder, with its 11 inside 50s leading to two behinds but an impressive run-on goal from Paige Scott.
St Kilda’s Serene Watson was doing the heavy lifting for the Saints as the ball remained in their back half, with her 10 disposals, eight of those kicks, in the first quarter resulting in 28 disposals and 20 kicks by the games end.
It was a cold day out in Moorabbin, but the game was red hot, with both sides battling it out with the pressure rising extensively by the second quarter. The Saints finished the match with 86 tackles whilst the Tigers had 75.
Richmond looked to be in complete control in the second term with a speedy goal earned by Ford 30 seconds in, but Amber Clarke finally got the Saints' first major on the board. After initialling missing the marking opportunity in the contest, she worked to obtain it back from the ground up, scooping the Sherrin up neatly before slotting the goal.
The Tigers responded shortly after with Ellie McKenzie’s first goal of the match, but the Saints were in it now, and the tensions of defensive footy finally hit boiling point. After a melee resulted in Anderson being thrown to the ground, she was quickly awarded a free kick right in front of goal. Followed by another unanswered major, this time by Patrikios, the Saints were in front.
The third quarter see-sawed back into Richmond’s favour, with McKenzie having an absolute day out for her Tigers, finishing the match with two goals, eight score involvements and 25 disposals and putting plenty of pressure on the Saints. Grace Egan was also a welcome return back from injury for the Tigers with her 15 disposals.
The game was neck and neck by the final quarter, but Ash Richards brought the game back into the Saints' hands with huge goal giving them some breathing space over Richmond. Richards effort was immense across the game as she finished with not only the goal, 17 touches and seven tackles.
Ultimately it was an event of Déjà vu for the Tigers, as they finished the game with five more inside 50s, but were unable to convert their entries to a score that would have got them their first win of the season, whilst the Saints keep marching in with their first back-to-back win of 2025.
Melee melee melee
The pressure was on for both sides, with St Kilda wanting to back up their huge win over the Bombers last week, but the Tigers desperate for their first. Huge tackles and bumps from both sides came to a head in the second quarter, with a melee that earned cheers from the crowds. The Saints came off best in that contest, with Anderson converting a neat goal following a 50m penalty.
And injury concerns for *checks notes* Razor Ray?
Former AFL umpire and now AFLW umpire 'Razor' Ray Chamberlain was also seen on the bench during third quarter, shortly after McDonald came from the ground with ice being heavily strapped to his right calf. Hashtag whistles out for Razor.
Up next
St Kilda will host another Sunday special in round seven, with Port Adelaide travelling to RSEA Park for the early afternoon game. Richmond will be heading up to sunnier weather than what was on offer today, as they take on Brisbane at Brighton Homes Arena also on Sunday.

Their pressure was intense across the whole match as they applied a 231 pressure factor and outtackled the Tigers by 13. I thought for 3 qtrs we were better organised than we have been for the entire season, which isn't really saying much
But the 4th qtr that went out the window and as I posted earlier we had no plan, didn't adjust for the conditions
-
Winless season is well and truly on. Suspect it may come down to either the pies in the 3rd last game or the suns in the last round.
But sure let’s extend the coaches contract and make no changes to the women’s footy department.
-
Serious question WP
If we are paying peanuts for Ferguson , does that leave more money in the soft cap for the AFL program
Or is it utterly irrelevant
-
Serious question WP

His salary forms part of the soft cap
So yes how much we pay him directly impacts on how much is available for the program. Ditto with Kate Sheahan's salary.
Works exactly the same as the men's just much lower
-
Utterly diabolical that this bloke got a contract extension
-
Better game albeit against the ainters who are crap as well.
We should play for the draft picks but I imagine we will be trying to win at all costs.
Disappointing to see Sierra Grieves not play mid time now with Egan back.
We have got a poo load of players now who look past it.

So if we are paying Ferguson cheap , and Sheahan cheap , technically this benefits the men’s program? As there will be more soft cap space to allocate there ??

Two totally separate caps. You don't spend all of your AFLW soft cap you can't put it towards you AFL cap
The only thing is and I'm not sure if it's still the case but previously if you had a coach in your men's program coaching in your women's program their afl salary was counted as part of the AFLW soft cap. In other words it was counted twice. But what was crazy was their AFLW salary wasn't counted in the AFL men's soft cap.
Hope that makes sense

Ok
Well then the RFC have treated the woman’s program with zero respect
I was looking for an excuse

Ferguson ‘builds’ towards Brisbane
Ryan Ferguson reflects on the narrow loss to the Saints and looks ahead to the Lions' challenge.
By Henry Milic
Richmond Media
Sep 22, 2025
After falling seven points short to St Kilda in a back-and-forth contest at RSEA Park on Sunday, Richmond will look to capitalise on its key “moments” as the focus switches towards this week's battle with Brisbane.
Ryan Ferguson felt his side was in control of the game, holding a seven-point lead heading into the last quarter and leading the way in most of the key statistical categories.
However, a string of missed opportunities proved crucial when the match was on the line.
“I think we did a lot right across the whole game and that we controlled most of the game, but I thought moments let us down,” Ferguson said.
“We released the pressure valve too many times, we either gave away goals or missed opportunities to have more chances at goal by giving away free kicks at each end of the ground.
“Moments cost us, which allowed them to get momentum back in and I thought we could have created some separation, but we fought out the game.
“So much of the game was what we planned for and on our terms, but we just weren’t able to maximise our scores, and then take away (St Kilda's) in those moments.”
Despite winning the inside 50 count 33-28, Ferguson insists that his side must be better positioned when the ball is coming into the forward line.
“There were definitely times where we didn’t get the ball in deep enough, and then we weren’t able to have layers to score, but then to also be able to keep the ball in to maybe get a second or third chance at scoring,” Ferguson said.
“Also making sure that we are really well organised ahead of the ball, setting the ground up to provide the contest or create separation.
“So, it’s easy to look for one fix and the golden bullet, but the fact is there are just a few areas that we can get sharper with and that we will continue to work on to get that inside 50 connection.”
Dropping to 0-6 on the season, Ferguson's focus turns to keeping the group connected by making sure his side continues to build and grow from these losses.
“I thought we were really well organised, last week not so much, but this week we adjusted and held some great shape,” Ferguson said.
“We put St Kilda under enormous pressure, so we will be looking at that and then adjusting some things that we can benefit from.
“Stick to the course, stay together and continue to build our game, rather than try to go to stories.”
The Tigers now work towards Sunday's meeting with the Lions, who have been one of the competition's traditional powerhouse sides.
“We respect Brisbane very much and we have had some great battles against them, so our players will be really excited to travel together on Grand Final Day,” Ferguson said.
“They will train and watch the Grand Final together, but we will pay our respects to them (Brisbane) in terms of studying them, but it will also be very much about us and about what we are building and how we can continue to maximise our game.
“We just need to make sure we focus on us and what we can do.”

Well then the RFC have treated the woman’s program with zero respect
I was looking for an excuse
We supposedly pay the entire soft cap.
The total soft cap this year is $1.175 million and 20% of the senior coaches salary is excluded from the soft cap
