Title: Tiges vs Saints matchday thread
Post by: one-eyed on July 28, 2006, 02:45:58 AM
Herald-Sun preview:

Saturday, July 29
ST KILDA v RICHMOND MCG 2.10pm

Head to head: St Kilda 62 Richmond 102 Drawn 2

Last time: St Kilda 13.10 (88) bt Richmond 11.11 (77) R2 2006 Telstra Dome

TAB Sportsbet: St Kilda $1.40 Richmond $2.80
Centrebet: St Kilda $1.40 Richmond $2.95

St Kilda may still be below its best, but it is riding a four-game winning streak and is now zeroing in on a top-four berth. In contrast, Richmond has lost its last two to slip out of the top eight after punching above its weight for much of 2006. The Tigers did go very close to upsetting St Kilda back in round two and may well have done so had young defender Will Thursfield not injured his knee in the final quarter. That freed up Nick Riewoldt to stamp his authority in the dying minutes.

Key: The Tigers don't appear to have a good match-up for Riewoldt this time around and that spells trouble.

Tip: St Kilda by 25 points

We're lucky Riewoldt is a worse kick for goal than Richo.

Terry you need to tag Gram on their half-back line  :banghead.

Gram was the only Saint in form off half-back and we're allowing him to run around loose  ::). Terry finally makes the move 3 goals too late. Rodan onto Gram.

Another turnover and another with Paddy kicking over his head out on the full :banghead.

This is going to a 100 point thumping  :help. Our skills and decision making are pathetic and the Saints are working harder and getting numbers ot the footy.

Tivs goals and even then we almost stuffed it upcoming out of defence. We finally get it out of the cente after a goal to us and Lids just misses. Saints go coast to coast to Riewoldt then Gehrig and goal  :scream.

Browny hammy. Are we cursed or something?!  :-\.

Blingers is totally out of form. Didn't put body pressure on Goddard in a marking contest and then missed his set shot. His confidence looks real down. LOL as I'm typing this he then takes a good mark in the goalsquare and goals (MT =  :wallywink).

Schulz now off groggy and limping after being crunched  :(.  We'll be lucky to win another game for the year at this rate.

Gehrig has 6  :help.

Richo goals from a free (yep that's right a free)

Staff has shirt-fronted Goddard and knocked him out.

Legal hit they are saying. Stretcher coming out.

Baker may be in trouble for a jumper punch on Staff lol. Hawk game revisited  ;).

Umps give Saints a free out of the centre then we give away 50 for backchat to the ump. Goal Saints  :banghead.

Saints best second quarter against us in history - 9 goal quarter and Gehrig has 7  :scream.

We finally win the hard ball then Rodan kicks it straight  into a Saint and the Saints goal  :banghead.

Richo another free but misses. Half time.

Rich  6.7-43
St K 14.6-90

Saints could kick 200 points today. Getting absolutely smashed by the Saints runners all over the ground and gifting passes under no pressure to Riewoldt and Gehrig. We know how to put a side back into form  ::).

Rainesy about the only Tiger winning his position with Milne goalless. Simmo winning the hitouts but they aren't effective as the saints are taking it away. Richo will 2 goals and Staff about the only other ones doing anything worthwhile.

Browny and Schulz out of the game.

Tivs gets penalised 50 for nothing then Riewoldt doesn't for an obvious 50  ::).

It's days like this that you think we'll never improve  :(. Woeful skills, decision making and 1%ers.

5 goals to 1 already this quarter and Gehrig has 9 :help.

whappenned to Schulz ???

They said Sarge got crunched. He's just come back on and onto Gehrig so he's ok.

Goal to Sugar.

Rich  8.9-57
St K 22.6-138

Saints have kicked 20.1 since the middle of the first quarter  :o.

3QT

87 points down and to rub salt into the wounds Fiora who's done nothing today gets the last goal.

We are a rabble. Uncompetitive and look tired. We can say we're a young side but this is just humilating.

Saints will reach 200 points easy unless they switch off. When guys like Powell and Montagna are getting 20 possies in 3 quarter you know you're in trouble. Saints have had 50 more possessions.

Injuries have cruelled us, but in all seriousness, we are about a 12th place side at best. No team that has gotten rodgered the amount of times we have deserves to be in contention to play finals.

I don't think we have really improved as a side from last year. We have given the young blokes more of a go, which will be good for the future, but really, I don't think we are any better than what we were.

Frawley is loving this on the radio. Farrrken prik.

It's just not the injuries but we a number of blokes totally out of form for the past 3 weeks - Tuck and Hyde especially.

They were saying near the end of the game that Simmo might be in trouble with the tribunal for a jumper punch on pretty protective boy Riewoldt ???

We are a rabble. I put up a list some weeks ago and people got stuck in and thats fair enough but if some of you blokes reckon the blokes i named in my list should stay on the list over the next 2 years then you need your heads read. They should all be sacked or traded and that includes the likes of Tuck.

Problem with players like Hyde and Tuck is that they are bang and crash type players.

They have taken a lot and are certainly carrying injuries. Not an excuse though.
Title: Wallace post-match press conference
Post by: mightytiges on July 29, 2006, 05:54:04 PM
Wallace post-match press conference:

* Knew we were in trouble early. St Kilda initially in the first quarter didn't make us pay on the scoreboard.

* The long term is still looking at improving our graph. We can still win more games this year and improve on last year.

* Young boys struggled to make the grade at this stage of their careers. 10 senior blokes not able to play. Browny makes 11. Testing our depth. St Kilda made us pay.

* 3/4 time speech - told the boys he would look at their input as that was the main issue - chasing, workrate, teamwork aspects. Rotated 7-8 guys came off for discipline reasons following on from that. The media saw Sarge cop a spray from Terry during the last quarter.

* Wouldn't discuss individual players publicly.

There is no point in us winning more games. NONE! It will just put us back in terms of getting the players we need.
