Title: Yeah or Neah - 8. Thomas Roach
Post by: one-eyed on August 29, 2006, 06:48:55 PM
Lids, Blingers, Simmo, Browny are safe while Chaff has announced his retirement which means Tommy Roach is next up.

8 games in his debutant year (2004) but only 1 senior appearance in each of the last two years under Wallace. Tommy was unlucky copping a broken jaw once he got back into the seniors but hasn't returned since and spent the rest of this year at Coburg. Uncontracted. Anyone willing to give him another year or is he gone?

Sorry, but for what I have seen of him play then its a  Neah for me.

It is a neah for me as well.  Unlucky in regards to jaw injury.  Unlikely to be given another contract

Neah from me as well. His form at Coburg over the last few 6-7 weeks hasn't been great for a bloke under the pump

Disappointing about the fractured jaw I will admit.

I think you can make the a pretty strong case that there are so many other young blokes have gone past him

I'd off load him myself, but I think the club will give him a little more time. Hell look at the amount of time they have given Moore. Roach for another year.

I haven't seen him play much, except in the seniors, but you'd think if he was worth keeping around he'd be given a chance in the seniors more. Neah for me.

Being the son of a Tiger champion I was keen to see him do well but other than a good quarter against West Coast he has shown much. But then again he has been emergency for the seniors the last few weeks so TW must be seeing something that we are not. Reluctantly for me I say neah - maybe delist and then pick up as a rookie

I am pretty sure Moore has been on the seniors list 1 year less than Tom Roach. Moore and Roach have both been at the Club the same amount of time. Roach started on the senior list and Moore on the rookie list.

Agree that Roach should be delisted, and that a pre-season competition should be held between Jacko & Roach for a rookie list spot.

i think that Moore, Roach and Jackson should all be delisted.

None of these guys deserve a rookie spot.

Why waste time with people we already know are no good.

Better off putting some under 18's who miss out on the draft on the rookie list.

It's time to go..........................Thomas
and take Annie and Clarabel with you also ;D

Really!!! Moore to me seems like he's been around the place on any of the lists for years. I'm sure Moore has been at the club longer.

Just checked my Encyclopedia of AFL Footballers for the Tigers Rodger and I'll correct my error.

Moore was rookied in 2003, with 2004 being his 2nd year, Roach was drafted in the National Draft in 2003 = first season 2004.

So Moore had only been at the Club 1 year longer than Roach but he spent 2 years on the rookie list
 :thumbsup

Roachy sadly gone I reckon.
Moore the same, but if i had a choice out of the two I' d keep Moore
Both interrupted with injuries but not showing enough when they get their opportunities.

Not lookin good for Roachy, must admit I seen a few Burgers games and the guy is struggling.
I would give 1 more year only, just in case. Only because his surname is Roach and if he makes it I want him to be palying for us, but 1 year and that is it.
Title: Tommy Roach playing for his career - Wallace
Post by: one-eyed on September 02, 2006, 02:56:57 AM
From the Age:

Wallace said youngster Tom Roach, the son of Richmond great Michael Roach, would have to prove his ability. "Tommy Roach is probably playing for his footy survival to stay on the list, you've got Cam Howat who's come off the rookie list — where does he sit in the situation? Is he going to be re-rookied, do we put him on the senior list? All those things play a part in what your final list-management structures are so from that point of view we want to wait until the end (before decisions on players are made)."

If his last name wasn't Roach, this wouldn't even be a question. After 3 years on the list he still looks like a 14 year old. His tackles don't stick, he doesn't run hard enough and his kicks aren't pin point. I think it's time to say goodbye Tom...or at least hello rookie list.

Wouldn't even give him a rookie list spot.  He has great pedigree, but sadly that's all.  Shame, but bye Tommy

saw roach yesterday give a handpass off then lay the LAMEST of sheperds i've ever seen, of coarse the player with the ball had to then kick under pressure resulting in a turnover  :-\

His 21st and his last game of AFL

Just another Frawleying stuff up :scream

An attempt to appease the non thinking fans with a father & son selection enamating from a star player from the past.
it was openly reported at the time that he was just an average player with Oakleigh

Get him out of the way and lets move on.

Yep a political decision to desperately attract a positive news story amongst the cries for blood at the time rather than what was best for our list  :scream. Of course that's not Tommy's fault. Most of us would have jumped at any chance to play AFL.

hold on everyone

roach was given a job on the weekend

to tag braun, and he did a gr8 job.  in a game where we were smashed, he kept braun quiet and only made 1 clanger himself.

i think they will give roach one more yr, he played much better than many others in our team.

tyhe first to go has to be tivendale, again he was a clanger machine and as indesive as ever! he always made the wrong choice and is a f idiot.  roach busted his guts and showed enough to be given one more yr.

deledio needs a good talking too! give me 10 minutes with him. dont look at his stats his game was poor and full of tivendale like insecurity!  the longer tiv stays in out team , the more bad influence he is on guys like lids. last yr lids, in his 1st yr , was our best decision maker, well not anymore , he has the tiv virus now and polo, is by far our best player from last yrs draft.

give roach 1 more yr

Braun still had 15 disposals to only Roach's 5. If we are going to improve as a side we don't need another tagger as we've already got Sugar and Polo to do shutdown roles if need be; we need classy strong quick ballwinners instead. We got smashed in the centre because we couldn't win the footy. It looked like all our midfielders were taggers as we were so reactive to what the Eagles were doing. Roach has been on our list 3 years and hasn't progressed both football-wise and physically. Time to say goodbye.

15 disposals in a game where the eagles had the ball on a string is not that much at all

That's true but when your opponent gets the footy 3 times more than you do then that's not good enough.

that trip had no influence on his inability, its just an excuse, richo jarred his knee in the warm up too, but thats not why he dropped every mark that came his way early, and at least richo as always busted his guts and never gave up.  tivs performance was the worst on the ground

They won't be at Punt Rd next year but delistings don't have to be made official until Oct 31 although other clubs have already done so. The plan was to see if another club wanted either Roach or Rodan otherwise both of them would be delisted.
