Two years ago when Plough took over as coach, one of the players he was very keen to get to Tigerland was Lindsay Gilbee.
Gilbee also wanted to reunite but unfortunately for us it didnt eventuate.
Gilbee was tonight named All Australian in the back pocket and would be a fantastic addition to our team at the moment.
Is there another player out there, ala Gilbee who hasnt reached there full potential and could possibly do so at Punt Road?
-
He actually wanted to go to Collingwood, but we were the team showing the most interest.
There isnt another Lindsay Gilbee, but there is a guy who will be just as good and his name is Travis Casserly.

I'm a Cass fan too L19 :thumbsup. We've got a few future options we can rotate through that attacking defender role - JON, Meyer, Blingers and Lids.

i wouldnt. joel imo has more strings to his bow, more complete player and more versitile. im not much of a stats man, but joel and gilbee played similar roles this yr, joel also had more difficult roles than gilbee and joel beat him in all statistical areas

But that doesn't really count because you aren't a stats man.

Gotta say in the games I saw him play at Coburg - his kicking is an absolute treat.
Needs to spend a lot of time in the gym but skill wise definitely looks the goods
:thumbsup

Cass is second best kick at the club IMHO after Meyer. Hopefully he can have a injury free preseason and 2007.

I have heard good things about Casserley. Remember also there is a draft coming up with some talented midfielders in it.
Interesting times

Banter - I would think when someone puts a smiley face (this one ;D or this one ;) or even this one :lol) or the cool face (this one 8) ) and the end of thier post then that's banter.
When someone posts personal comments about partners etc then that's offensive.

Moving right along ::).

I'm a big fan of Cass LT. I think he will surprise alot of supporters next year. He just needs a injury-free run after suffering from OP earlier this year and catch up to his peers physcially over summer.
Weaver on his yahoo tiger talk site made a interesting point. He mentioned that despite calls from supporters to pick up a tall with our first drft pick that we could go for a genuine midfielder instead if we consider the likes of JON and Lids say as "modern" talls - 190cm footballers who can run. Add outside players like Meyer, Cass and Blingers and we may not have the depth of young genuine midfielders that we think we have with just Polo, Foley and Raines.

I just worry about their size against the monsters - alot of these kids, especially from WA (eg JON and Casserley) aren't big across the shoulders - and seem to take a while to bulk up. I suppose it depends on how patient a club's prepared to be :-\

If you got any doubts just remember Anthony Banik...

You would a very strong, even midfield with depth to protect your defence. I guess the Swans get away with it with Barry, LRT and Bolton but they have no teenagers in their best 22 so every Swan is physically mature. At the other end premierships are usually won around a big strong talented key forward - Hall, Tredrea, Lynch and Brown, Carey. We still need a young traditional KPP or two. I can see Wallace picking up Clinton Benjamin though at #8 unless one of the better KPP is still around. He won't be able to resist a 188cm tall skillful footballer (and growing?) who can run 100m in 10.5 secs.

Banik was probably a few years premature for the drafting system and player maturation nowadays.
He was rushed in, played some good footy, but injuries took their toll.
This draft I think we will go with a classy midfielder at 8, a tall at 26 and 42. And a speculative after that. Depends if we can nab another pic early
-
I reckon we should be looking at KPP's. Our midfield depth is pretty solid and we have plenty of players capable of rotating through the midfield. This season we lacked a solid tall defender and strong marking/leading CHF/FF to compliment Richo. We seemed to be regularly getting it into our forward 50, but from there we struck trouble. I would prefer to see two tall forwards kicking 4 goals each rather than Richo kicking 8 on his own.
