Title: Yeah or Neah - 38. Luke McGuane
Post by: one-eyed on September 12, 2006, 02:21:07 AM
Hartigan, Hughes, White, Thursfield and Casserly are all contracted so McGuane is the next uncontracted Tiger.

McGuane was drafted as a speculative tall from Queensland and spent most of 2005 in the Coburg ressies either side of breaking his upper arm. This year has played 15 matches with Coburg seniors mainly in defence but has been used up forward as well towards the end of the VFL season kicking 9 goals in the last 5 weeks. Luke made his AFL debut this year brought in as a last resort backman against Sydney in R7 and then brought back for the West Coast game in R22 in a defence minus Gas, Hall and Kellaway.

Do we keep or let go?

Make him look good for a year and sell him to collingwood for a case of scotch and a box of Damper.

Don't know to be honest.

Struggles as a backman because he doesn't read the play as well as when he is up forward. Much better forward but we need backmen.

What also concerns me is the fact that in 2 pre-seasons he hasn't built up across the shoulders - needs to get into the gym and on the weights pronto.

Could be put him back to the rookie list?

I'm leaning towards NEAH but I reckon he'll be a yeah just ....

Definately a keeper for the 07 list.

Requires at least 2 years to become more consistent and versatile.

Is starting to get some condition, just needs to add bulk to the frame. Good pace and aerobic capacity.

Probably a couple of years behind Limbach in terms of footy smarts when drafted as he was not exposed to the high intensity junior training that Limbach had.

IMO has well & truly overtaken Limbach as a KPP prospect.

Did well in the last couple of rounds at Coburg as the only contesting forward (due to RFC injuries and promotions).  Limbach in la la land that is his head space.

Let him go, or on to rookie list.

Appears to totally lack a football brain.Poor judgement.Too ungainly and un-co.Has a good leap.
Can run, but only IF he's running in a straight line.

Doesn't play good footy, and doubt he ever will.

Give him one more year and then if he doesn't take up the challenge give him the stuff.  Needs some serious weight sessions. :weights

I reckon he is a DUD.

I do remember the club saying that when he was drafted he was a long term prospect and would take some time. In saying that i think that he may be given another 1-2 year contract to see if he does come on.

Like Jacko he hasn't found nor settled into a position. We want him as a potential tall defender but he struggles big time back there. Give him time on the rookie list to fill out otherwise neah.

IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII

Thats the fence I am sitting on with this one,

If he needs more time then rookie list him, if he not going to make it the pull the pin now. I just don't know as I have only seen him twice.

Yeah for me.

Has some real talent and has improved a lot this year. IMO would be battling with Limbach for one place on the list and I think McGuane has shown more and offers more versatility so will be kept. Key things for him are to put on a lot of bulk and to probably calm down a bit when he's got the ball, can do really good things but then let himself down with poor decisions or a rush of blood.

I reckon he might be chopped

I was critical of Luke because we could have gotten the Sherminator

But I'm turning into a fan of his. Everyone just watch and see how he blooms into a good AFL player
