Title: Should we offer Knobel to the Saints?
Post by: one-eyed on October 12, 2006, 02:22:31 AM
With Simmo and Patto becoming our first two rucks, should we test the waters with Knobel now that new coach Lyon desperately wants a ruckman and see if we can prize away a decent pick or exchange of picks (Saints pick 27 for our 42 say). Thoughts?

Quote
THE Saints will, however, chase a ruckman, given Lyon publicly declared he wanted a recruit capable of 200-plus hitouts a season and is a believer every club needs genuine ruckmen in its 22.

I don't think thats a good idea. Imagine that Simmo goes down with Injury  :(. I don't want to see Patto carrying the ruck on his own as he is not ready yet.

I think all clubs need to carry (on the list) three ruckmen that are capaple of being in the starting 22. Plus maybe a development player (eg Angus Graham). Anything less than that is a big risk.

Yes I agree with Fluffy, especially now that Staff is gone.

Absolutely no way

Fluffy is spot on - if Simmo goes down we have:

Patto - who's not strong enough to compete for 120 minutes of a game - at this stage of his career I'd say 5-10 mins a qtr in the ruck and around the ground is his limit

and...

Gus Graham - a rookie who played 1 senior game for Coburg in 2006.

We need Knobel  :thumbsup

No point doing it. Michael Gardiner is flying east to meet the Saints tomorrow.
