Sheeds proactiveness has now completed the rivalry set for the Bombers with set blockbuster games in Anzac Day, Dreamtime at the 'G and now this multicultural theme game against Carlton reported in The Age.
Richmond has a far stronger rivalry with the poor bluebaggers than Essendon. We should be organising a blockbuster game with Carlton ourselves such as opening the season every year and playing them twice a year along with the Pies and Bombers.
Just sick of us being treated as a minnow when it comes to the fixture despite big Friday night tv ratings and home crowds at the 'G daylight ahead of 14 other clubs.

i agree we should play carlton, essendon and collingwood twice per year ...
v carlton round 1 every year ... i don't see whyn't !
just hope we always win ... thats all i really care about !
-
We should request round 1 at the 'G against the Blues every season.
If Carlton ever gets its act together it would become a Friday night to launch the season

Geez I hate Sheedy and Essendon.
Wallace should just make something up so we can have a theme to play Carlton each year. Make it early in the season so we play them twice. Name the clash after the heroic miners in Beaconsfield, the Aussie troops in Iraq, the Victorian bushfires, or the drought......something that tugs at the heart strings that the AFL can't say no to without public outcry. Something Sheedy's been doing all along with the sole aim of advancing the Essendon Football Club.

Richmond vs Carlton doesnt need any major effort...its been a rivalry for the ages, the working class vs the bougoise...we hate them and they hate us...so lets get it on in R1 of every season in front of 80,000 people.

Don't we play them in the rivalry round? Having a blank moment here - who do we play?

Doggies I think :-X
-
That's stupid if that is the case. Our rivalry with Carlton is far bigger than the stupid Doggies.
-
I could be wrong but isn't it the Pies in round 3? ???.
-
No chance of playing Carlton in round 1 again next year. The Blues and Hawks want a twilight game on Good Friday with Easter falling during round 1 in 2008.

Richmond get screwed again. Why should hawthorn get the game...they get normal crowds during all easter, but our crowds suffer badly during both catholic and orthodox easter.

Don't worry about it. We originally had planned the Dees for Round 1 in previous years then we had a scheduled Pies Round 1 game then the Pies decided that we were not their cup of tea for round 1. What we need to do is find an opponent who we can actually be competitive against and possibly win hence set a precedent for the season and we can also sustain a significant windfall and go with that. Perhaps the Bummers.
We need to approach this as other clubs have. Carlton play Ess twice have Anzac Day with the Scum lets play them twice.
a) They do not have the aura they have now and we can beat them to have a good start to the season. Last thing you want is get drawn to play Port or Eagles away and get 80 point floggings and just setting us back for the year playing catch up. Club needs to ram their point and put their preference for it. The second meeting between the two clubs can be the dreamtime game.

We've now asked the AFL for the Good Friday game against the Blues.
After The Age revealed the league's Good Friday plans, several clubs contacted the AFL — including Richmond which has also asked to be considered for a Good Friday game against Carlton, with the Blues having already put forward a joint submission with Hawthorn.
