Title: Joel at full back - yeah or neah
Post by: one-eyed on March 17, 2007, 02:10:11 PM
Bowden gave old puff puff the run around yesterday and has played full back in all the preseason matches.

Is this where he should play in the real stuff?

i think it will depend on the match up and plans for match day.
if he can play fb and still cre8 play and run off a heavy slow lethargic toss liek rocca, why not.

True provided we can control the midfield. If the ball is continually being pumped into our backline then he'll be stuck playing tight to the FF. It seems Plough no longer has faith in Gas because he said we got Polak to free up Joel yet Joel is playing FB.

Coming back from a groin strain apparently according to a trainer. He was running okay in the rehab group with Richo and Casserly at training on Wednesday although it wasn't sprinting. The main thing is his knee is doing fine so far (touchwood). Thursty by my guess will play a few games at Coburg before coming back into the seniors.

I think that Gas will be playing the third defender role this season.

When you look at it though, would we have rather had Chubba playing this role instead of Gas?

I think i would have pick Chubba.

I believe he should stay at full back. He was played very adequately at full back
and he gives the defence some sort of stability and organisation. If we are to take the next step we need to have
a) Faith in the youngsters in the middle in terms of their week to week performance and overall development
b) Know that all teams that have had some form of success in September have had a settled full back and settled backline that have played together for a number of years.
Keep him there at fb he is more accountable and uses the ball better there than he has been in the midfield

J. Brown plays at centre half forward.  That would put him on Polak, not Bowden.  :thumbsup
