On a night when Tigers president Gary March predicted 2007 would be the year Richmond “gained respect” from those who “don’t rate us”

yeah ... we need that badddddd ...
but that up to the players ... you would think the players would be hungry for that ...
Joel, Richo, Gaspar, Coughlan, Newman, Tivendale, Hall ... players that have suffered ...
you would think they would say that ...
why doesn't Joel come out and say ... "WE WANT RESPECT" i would believe that, then him saying anything else really ...
because i think and i know we have no respect from other clubs ...
-
There's only one way to earn respect as a footy team - Win! Win lots of games to make the finals and then back it up winning during the finals.
Talking about earning respect means nothing if you can't back it up. It just comes back to bite you at the end of the year or if you're on the end of a few hidings.
One of the rare exceptions of doing both is Aker. He would publicly trash talk in the media at all the time when he was with Brissy and then come out and kick 5 goals in a Granny.

Good to see Rex there. :clapping
BUT I think its good the Prez has come out. He;s telling the truth. :gotigers

Tigers want respect
by: Paul Gough
Sportal
March 27, 2007
Richmond president Gary March says his AFL club's goal this year is all about earning respect, saying the Tigers' huge improvement over the past two years has gone unnoticed by the rest of the football world.
In just two years the Tigers have risen from last on the ladder at the end of 2004 to ninth place last season under coach Terry Wallace, lifting their win tally from four to 11 in the process.
And the club has performed equally as well off the field after making a profit of nearly $1 million last season just two years after the club lost more than $2 million in 2004.
However, despite the club's huge improvement over the past two years the Tigers have been all but written off ahead of the 2007 season despite the return to full fitness of champion forward Nathan Brown and one of their most reliable defenders in Chris Newman following shocking leg injuries.
March said the Tigers were looking forward to proving their critics wrong this season.
"When reflecting on the year ahead I recognise that while we have acknowledged our continued improvement the rest of the football world has not," he said at the Tigers' official season launch.
"I believe there is very little respect for this club both on and off the field within football circles - simply put they just don't rate us."
March said that was evident from the fact that in 21 of their 22 matches last year, the Tigers went in as underdogs as far as the expert tipsters were concerned while in many experts' pre-season ladders, the Tigers have even been tipped to finish last despite being the best performed team outside the eight last year.
"So-called experts such as (1990 Collingwood premiership captain) Tony Shaw and (former Melbourne champion forward and now radio and television commentator) David Schwarz have Richmond finishing 16th and 15th respectively this year," he said.
"So for me this year's goal is respect and respect is not given it's earned so it's important our entire organisation from administration through to football continues to improve."
The Tigers have made the finals just twice since their last grand final appearance in 1982 but March believes the club is on the verge of again becoming a power in the competition, such as when it won five premierships from 1967-80.
"This club is becoming a powerful unit once again," he said.
"Beware anyone that takes us lightly and shows us a lack of respect because as a united unit we are once again going to be the kings of the AFL jungle."
"It's time for this club to become one of the powerhouses of the competition again and we are on the verge of achieving this but we must continue to improve - nothing less is acceptable."

Stupid Roger Merrett has come out in the Gold Coast Bulletin and predicted that the Tigers will finish last this year. I almost choked on my lunch reading it. Worse still, his stupid junior sidekick has predicted the same. Obviously didn't learn their lesson after those scathing emails I sent to them last year. I am now convinced Roger Merrett hates us as he rarely tips us. I am going to keep this article and then at the end of the year, providing they aren't right, and especially if we make it to the finals, will send it back to them with a suitable scathing note. :banghead :banghead

Didn't Merrett say the same thing last year?

Can we just shut T F up and earn respect on the footy field.

Can we just shut T F up and earn respect on the footy field.
Every time we've made the "we want respect" comment in the past it's been followed by a 10+ goal flogging :-\. What's worse is we know we're underdone and have injuries to key players coming into round 1 yet we make this statement now ???. I couldn't agree more Harry. The Club still hasn't learnt to shut up :banghead.

At this stage of the proceedings Jacko is thinking that either him or me will be bumping this thread come R11 lol.

Gary March is a total Wanker.....that is a fact!
As for our coach, well he is heading in the same direction.
How can our senior coach start softening the supporters for a bad year before the ball has even bounced.
Absolute disgrace.

I call a huge improvemnt is coming from the bottom and playing in a grand Final the folowing year, what the pies did a few years ago, now thats what you would call a huge improvement, wouldnt the normal person.?
And exactly where ar ethe pies now? Still waiting for a flag and they are more likely to go backwards this year.
In the last 2 years we have improved the win loss column says that. 2004 = 4 wins. 2006 = 11 wins.
Are we going to improve this year? Time will tell but I hope so.
-
What did he predict for Essendon Julz?
Umm something like 12th.
LOL at Tiga.

i have had a gutlful of some of you pessimistic w@nkers

Yeah, that's a huge improvement. You must be getting old Jack, that "few years ago" was actually 30 years ago. :) (T. Hafey may have had a bit to do with that mega improvement).
If you mean more recently, Collingwood finished 9th in 2001. Was still a big improvement in 2002, but wasn't from the bottom to playing off in the GF.

Judging be some of the talkback callers on SEN tonite
There is a ground swell for doubting our direction at the moment.
Come on, Jack, don't rely on the people who call radio talkback as being representative of what the average RFC supporter is feeling.
The majority of people who call footy talkback, especially after a loss, are whingers, losers and wankers of the highest order - the fact that they "support" Richmond doesn't make them any less of a wanker/loser.
In my opinion, there is NO groundswell of doubting our direction at the moment. At worst, a number of people are adopting a "wait and see" attitude. However, generally the average supporter is, IMO,reasonably satisfied with the progress of the club under Wallace, both on and off field, and hoping for a continuation of this process.
Geez, the negativity is getting too bloody repetitious. Say it, make your point, but don't go on grinding away like a dentist's drill with it, because it's getting painful. Get a little balance, for goodness sake.

I wouldn't be using the Pies as a model for us to follow Jack. Malthouse topped up with players from other clubs. His recruiting and trading has been shocking and the Maggies are now paying for it. Traded for McKee, ex-Eagles Morrison and Andrew Williams and gave up a first rounder for Woewodin. Let go Sav Rocca, Mal Michael, Paul Williams and Nick Davis and the only real quality he brought into the Pies in 8 years worth of trade weeks was Clement.

BUMP
LOL
And I said R11. This season is shot- by round 11 itll be a debacle if it runs to form.
-
fleas dont even respect us
-
You'd think we'd learn by now to shut up before the season starts.
-
Hard to win respect win when you cant win a game.
I honestly cannot see the RFC winning a game this year.
Might win one or two.
Before I get slammed, please have a look at the draw and some smart person please tell me who we will beat.
And dont say Hawthorn either

i smell a tsunami coming
by round 12, the rumbles will start and a mutiny will begin
it will just take one bloke to start the ball rolling and the board will be up for a battle again
bring it on, its time to serious questions and ask for serious answers
-
That's all we need. How many times has board and off-field battles solved our problems in the past! ::)
-

If there is such a bloke, let's hope he's weeded out beforehand.

Not that i am saying its the right thing to do but dooesnt someone only need 100 signatures to hold an E.A.G.M?
If we are 0-11 at the half way mark, i bet there would be 1000 people and counting who would sign for it.

Pretty sure that ridiculous rule was changed to 5% by the federal govt late 2005 or early 2006. :gotigers
