Title: Are we escaping media scrutiny?
Post by: one-eyed on April 10, 2007, 04:17:47 AM
The Dees and Daniher and Freo and Connolly are coming under fire after losing their first 2 games yet not much is being said about us apart from a Garry Lyon quip last night equating us to a VFA side compared to the top sides.

Are the media going soft on us?

lyon is a tosser, if we are that bad we would not have pushed the swans and lead in the last q.

we had one of those "honorable" losses this weekend and cos we still have key players out the media has been kind.

a loss to the skunks this week and u watch the media go to town on us and terry

we have shown more promise in this last week than many sides

I think we are not coping it yet. If we lose another 3 or 4 they will be coming after us big time I reckon

It will be the Dees this week (in Melb at least)

Yeah but Dees were expected for top 4 and Dockers tipped for the Premiership quite a lot so they're always going to cop it more.

Many tipped us for simply 11-14 so its not really outside their expectations for us to lose the first two.

I think he was comparing the ruck from the weekend.

If we don't win this week and generate some winning momentum it's not going to get any easier with the Dogs, Eagles and a pumped up Geelong to come before back to back trips to Adelaide  :-\.

I think he was comparing the ruck from the weekend.
Lyon probably meant that but it sounded like he meant the whole club the way it came out.

if we lose this week its gonna be a very long first half of the season- very long indeed.

They're usually very keen to give us a hard time, so I don't understand why they're being quiet about us.
Maybe they're trying to be fair for once and know that we're down in key position players.
Nice to think they were, but probably just an oversight lol.
I'm sure we'll get our fair share when it's due.
Probably saved by the Blues going down abysmally this week :thumbsup

Stupid idiots from the Gold Coast Bulletin had an article in yesterday's paper saying we should put blinkers on Richo cause he looks at the replays on the big screen too much.  Not happy Jan!  Obviously a quiet day in the office there :banghead

They're just regurgitating old overused stuff from 7 years ago. Like saying we come ninth all the time or sack coaches  :sleep.

We're probably getting it easier from the media because they know Wallace is safe for the next 2 years, whereas they can smell blood at the Dees and Dockers.

Prepare to be bombarded this week. Tim Watson said after the game we lack heart and application and Mark Robinson called us shameful. Sadly can't disagree with either  :(.

This a a very valid point.
As he is looking and pointing at the screen, he forgets to push back into his defensive zone therefore allowing the opposition to easily exit our forward 50. . Happened 4 times last night ;)

Dees down by 46 points at half-time. Looks like we'll have to share the scrutiny again with them and Freo this week.

the blowtorch will get applied to Melbourne because the media knows we're going to have a bad first 11 weeks so they know theyve got afew weeks up there sleeve before sticking the boots in, in the mean time theyll go after Melbourne.

While our opponents again this week cop heaps off coverage in the Herald-Sun ::).

Playing first up Friday night means we're 3 day old news by Monday. I wonder if Caro will go to town on us tonight on footy classified given she was cut short last week.

From no scrutiny to ridiculous articles about flogged to death old topics for the sake of something to bag Richmond about  ::)  :chuck.

I hope we win tonight just so we can stick it them and they can nick off and write meaningless crap about another club   :yawn.
Title: March hits back at Tiger critics

March hits back at Tiger critics
ADAM COOPER, AAP
April 20, 2007

RICHMOND president Gary March has hit back at media critics of the club.

He said commentators had gone "out of control" and written a "lot of garbage" about the Tigers this week, in relation to the club's playing list and a rivalry with the Western Bulldogs.

March was critical of an article written by former Melbourne captain Garry Lyon, who said Hawthorn's young playing list compared favourably to Richmond's given that they began rebuilding at the same time.

"That was completely unresearched and without foundation," March said.

"Garry attacked our recruiting and whether we were recruiting young players for the sake of recycled players."

He refuted Lyon's assertion the Tigers had not drafted well in recent years, as midfielder Brett Deledio won the 2005 Rising Star award while Andrew Raines was the runner-up in last year's award.

He said Richmond had six Rising Star nominations in the past two years, the equal of any other club.

"So to say we're not recruiting and developing youth is just totally unfounded," March said.

"He (Lyon) lined our list up against Hawthorn's.

"Hawthorn debuted 16 players in the last two years and Richmond 15, so I don't know where the comparisons are.

"We know where we're going as a club, we're confident about our drafting and where we're going."

Richmond coach Terry Wallace, who coached the Bulldogs on that day in 2001, said media outlets wanted to aim "the cannons" at the Tigers after three straight losses.

Wallace said he had warned his players earlier this week of the coming scrutiny, and said the club just had to "batten down the hatches".

With Melbourne showing some fight yesterday against Port, prepare for a media assult like no other. The media will be lusting after any signs of the club cracking from within and without from supporters.

cracks  ;D l cracked up already yeasterday watching the game
l had some crap put on me today l dont know if to explode or laugh
l'm usally very reserved but the failure of producing some good football by the Explosive Next Generation makes me laugh
l can however see some good signs in McGuane, White, & Hughes, so that itself keeps the fuse damp
