We had a closed training session at 4pm so the team shouldn't be too far away once that's finished. Maybe there'll be a surprise.

The other dude is Alan Toovey.

No wonder he's forgotten.  :D Really, if the skunks are on a theme they should have brought ex-Demon Peter Tossol out of retirement and given him a run this week.

I wouldn't go much on where our spine is named with Gas and Sarge at CHB and CHF respectively. We look a far stronger and balanced side with Simmo in it.

Simmo would've trained today hence the closed training session and IMO they've named him just in case he miraculously comes good for tomorrow and has no probs with the ankle. We're playing funny buggers like we did with Browny before round 1. Hopefully we don't do anything stupid out of desperation for win and play him with his ankle still not 100% right and risk further injury to it.

Is there anything wrong with Wakelin? If not Malthouse must be concerned about our pace up forward replacing Wakelin with first gamer Cox.

spin doctoring does not bother me, all the best coaches do it
what is pathetic though is that why spin something that no one believes, if your gonna bs and try to bluff everyone at the club should be on teh same page,
thus Miller the f witt, on teh radio should have said snake is 100% ready to go and will play!
then come game day, if ppl say hold on miller, u said snake will play, then u could bs again and say he had a bad does of the flu

ffs if your want to call a bluff do it but do it properly

The scum may not believe it but will they take the chance in not preparing for the remote chance that he may play.

It's all about not letting MM have time to relax.

If they don't name him then they gain nothing. Dropping PB may just put a rocket up him and when he comes back in then he may play better.

Once again...

With Wakelin out we should play a tall forward line as they have all the midgets in.  Stick Simmo in the goal square beside Captain Schulz, and put Richo at centre half forward

Miller said the right thing. Why get hopes up when he's no chance. It just deflates everyone on gameday. But you're right X asking why spin something no one believes. We should have only named Simmo if he WAS going to play after Miller had said he wasn't. Then Wallace should come out once Simmo was named and say he's 90% unlikely to play. Better still don't name Simmo at all and then cop a fine lol. That's the way you do it. The RFC always do these selection "tricks" back to front :scream.

Cox is 191cm and 92kg so the Pies have made a direct swap with Wakelin. Toovey is that in-between height at 189cm. Clement also won't have to worry about minding Browny. If we go too tall we'll play into the Pies hands allowing the Shaws, Swan and Clement to rebound at will once the ball hits the ground in our forward 50.

From the Age:

Simmonds, Richmond's best ruckman, was rushed in despite having had no match practice. He fractured an ankle pre-season and even earlier this week, both coach Terry Wallace and one of his assistants, David King, indicated he probably would not play.

Simmonds trained on Tuesday and football operations manager Paul Armstrong said he trained apart from the main group yesterday. He conceded the big man was no certainty, but said AFL rules required he be named last night or he could not play.

Numbers don’t add up for Bowden
By Gavin Haines

Posted Apr 13, 2007

Richmond Patrick Bowden was a revelation last year for Richmond after crossing from the Western Bulldogs to play league football with his brother Joel.

He was also a must-have fantasy football player after he became a ball-magnet (averaged 89 points per game according to Champion Data stats) in the Richmond defence racking up 20.1 disposals per game and taking ten or more marks on nine occasions in 2006.

He also chipped in with 14 goals in his 22 matches last year and finished up with six Brownlow votes.

This week however, the 25-year-old has been dropped from the Tiger’s side to tackle arch rivals Collingwood at the MCG tonight.

Bowden collected 17 and 15 possessions respectively against the Blues and the Swans in the first two rounds and was by no means the worst player for the Tigers.

His disposal has not been as effective so far this year and he hasn’t had any real impact on the matches, however his record last year against Collingwood would have surely warranted him another chance.

Bowden chalked up 30 possessions and took 12 marks in the Tiger’s solitary clash with the Magpies last year and was integral in his side’s 47-point win.

Next week the Tigers take on Bowden’s old side in the Bulldogs, who he collected 22 and 29 possessions against in the two times they met last year so a recall may not be far away.

Tiger fans will hope to see Bowden back to his best in the coming weeks, while fantasy footy coaches would also love to see him racking up the numbers.

No mention of Simmo in Royal's preview:

Quote
The ruck duel:  It’s probably an area of the ground where we haven’t done that well over the last couple of weeks. Hit outs have been our main concern over the last two weeks; we were dominated by both Carlton and Sydney. So for us to have a chance to win the ball at ground level it is very important for both Graham Polak and Adam Pattison to be competitive in that area.
