Title: Does winning the wooden spoon still hold the stigma it use to?
Post by: mightytiges on July 19, 2004, 02:01:17 AM
Before priority draft picks came along, winning the wooden spoon was scorned upon by all and sundry and if you knew a friend who supported the team that won the spoon you would give it to them big time especially if they were Blues or Pie fans when they each finished last a few years back  ;D.

However does this still hold true? With priority draft picks is their still the "shame" of winning the spoon or do supporters just comeback with the line "we've got the top picks in the draft mate and will be back up the top of the ladder and going for the flag in a couple of years time!"

I notice in the Hun today Peter Schwab is targetting the Hawks to beat us and the Dogs to finish ahead of us on the ladder. Would you really care if we finished last?

 ;D  ;D  ;D That's why I was asking Gibby ;).

om21 the people around where I sit at the footy would agree with you. They were saying let's finish second last so we get the priority pick but not the wooden spoon.

Please no wooden spoon.

I'll take the priority pick if it is there but we have had our share of spoons in the last 20 years - let someone else have it. Someone who hasn't had one for a long long time....er.... that sounds like Hawthorn :D

I'll take the draft picks.  I'm mean we're crappy enough to be worthy wooden spooners, we may as well take the "rewards".
Anyone who doesn't want the spoon, question a system that rewards teams for finishing last.
Bring back zones.

Premiership cups are the only things that count - if it means winning a couple of spoons and getting draft picks to put us on the road to getting a better team to win that cup, i'll take the draft picks and the spoon.

The spoon would really top off a fine career for Dani Fraudley.

IMO,From where we stand now, It wouldn't mean schit.

Wether we finish last or second last we are still the worst team in the comp this year.
