I thought I'd crop up this idea, and try and get some opinions on what we need to get out of this years draft.
IMO we need to draft about 7 kids.
2 ruckman (preferably not using our first pick)
2 more KPP (with at least one being a genuine key defender)
3 mids (one hardnut, one skilful runner and a gun inside midfielder with our top pick)
Some players I reckon we'd be interested in are
Krezuer, Cotchin, McEvoy, Bellchambers, Meyers, Masten
-
Just get Kruezer. :pray

With Kreuzer, I don't think we need to use our first pick to get our hands on a good ruckman.
At this stage you've got McEvoy (mobile, versatile and skilful ruckman) and Bellchambers (big lump of a lad who can ruck) who look like good options with an early 2nd round pick.
I'd be more tempted to go for someone like a Cotchin with our first pick, unless Kreuzer has a f..ing good season and forces us to select him.

Sounds good to me bluey. Out of those 3 mids I think we need 2 gun onballers and all need to have good footskills/kicking technique.
Ideally:
Early 1st round pick: KPP
Trade 1st round pick: onballer (swap first two around if need be)
Priority pick: onballer
Early 2nd round pick: ruckman
Trade 2nd round pick: KPP
Early 3rd round pick: skillful runner
Early 4th round pick: midfielder/runner
Rookie another KPP (Robertson) and ruckman.
Mind you gaining picks in trades will be tough for us. We don't have older players of any value. I've ignored the PSD. Unless a miracle happens and a out of contract star falls through I'd rather we pass, keep a vet inside and pick up another rookie.

I like Kreuzer a lot, but I'm just wary about selecting a ruckman with what looms as a top 3 pick. And anyway there are some excellent ruck options a little down the order. As i've said, Ben McEvoy from the Bushrangers looks like a very good prospect. Good athletic ability, smart ruckman, genuine ruck height but is also quite mobile, skilful and versatile (played a bit at CHF). Bellchambers is a really interesting prospect. Started out as a power forward but now that he has grown a bit, he has rucked a bit more and can now almost be considered as a genuine ruck prospect.
With the mids, I'd really like another Deledio type, someone who has excellent, is dynamic and has excellent skills. For me Cotchin fits the mould so if he has a very good season I'd like to have him. I'd also really like a Brock McLean or Marc Murphy type midfielder which would add further depth to our mid stocks.

Kruezer can also play a key forward role whether it be FF or CHF. I like Kruezer as well and his early season form from what I hear is spot on.

It's this midfielder type and class that we really lack in our midfield.

IMO we are almost set for runners, but geez we need another hard inside mid to help out Foley and maybe Cogs if he returns

Nick Reiwoldt

Nick Reiwoldt
Wouldn't mind him, but it's gonna be hard fitting him under our salary cap, let alone convincing him to leave the Saints
A player Id love to get if out of contract is Staker, heaps of potential there

I'd like to move a motion that it's too early in the year to be thinking about who we might draft, and which pick we'll get. Will anyone second it?

Never too early for Richmond supporters ;D :lol

I reckon that discussion of what type of player we need is fair enough, but it seems pointless to discuss what specific player we'll get or what draft pick we'll end up with. The field of talent will become much clearer throughout the season as players develop, and there's plenty of time later to assess and discuss those players. Furthermore, we just don't know where we'll end up on the ladder. It is premature to say we'll have the 1st or 2nd pick.
