Okay he's still only doing little cameos at this stage and has a long way to go but he is a class act. His awareness, decision making and disposal is un-Richmond like.

totally agree, and with more game time and confiidence he will do more and more special things
same goes with cleve

and jon

We found a key forward today as well. Clever showed everyone that he has the tools to be a good CHF in the AFL. Today was a good day for the club in terms of seeing where the club is headed. Tambos 1st quarter was also great...needs to do more than 30 minute jobs...but still he is improving.
-
Half the team must have been kids, JON, Tambo, Kingy, Lids, Schulz, Hughes, Edwards and the list goes on.
And it was great to see them give the Weagles a run for their money :clapping
For me the great thing is that we have so many more kids still to come in: Meyer, Connors, Casserly, Jack, Peterson and Polo.

Spot on MT, his awarness when he got it really caught my eye - footy smarts :thumbsup

No wonder Shane has footy nouse. Three generations of his family have played SANFL league football.
This article is from 3 weeks back after he made his debut.
Edwards strong start
By Peter Argent
Barossa Herald
24 April 2007
While many Richmond fans cannot see too many positives from the first four rounds of AFL football, one bright light on the horizon was the class and composure displayed by Shane Edwards in his debut match for the Tigers.
Selection number 26 in last year's draft, he is the son of former Central District century goalkicker and Freeling champion from its triple premiership winning era in the mid 1980s, Greg.
"The family, Tara, myself and Shane's younger brother Kym went across for the game as guests of Richmond," Greg said.
"He (Shane) said he felt pretty comfortable out there.
"Our stuff was that Richmond were pretty happy with him and they saw the amount of work he did off the ball.
"The club's stats had him collecting 10 touches and playing 52 per cent of the game."
To this observer, Shane displayed plenty of poise and composure when he got the ball.
Still only 18, he has a long career in front of him if this first game is any indication.
After three generations of the family have played SANFL league football, Shane becomes the first to play in the AFL.

An article in the Adelaide Addy from 3 weeks ago on Shane.
Tiger eager to earn stripes
ZAC MILBANK
Adelaide Advertiser
April 27, 2007 02:15am
ONE name stares Shane Edwards in the face each time he arrives for training at Richmond - Kevin Sheedy.
Awarded the honour of wearing the famous No. 10 is an indication of just how much those at Tigerland think of the fresh-faced Edwards.
Rather than retreat into his shell under the weight of pressure, the former North Adelaide wingman is even more determined to live up to expectations.
"I have to look at that on my locker every day," Edwards said with a sarcastic groan.
"Seriously though, it's a thrill, I only really thought of it when I first got given my guernsey. I thought: 'Gee it's exciting, I'm really lucky'."
As he made his AFL debut last Friday night at the MCG, Edwards had four ex-Rooster mates, including Michael Wundke and Todd Pfeiffer, sitting in the stand.
But they, like most Croweaters, had no idea about the significance of what Edwards was carrying on his back.
"All the Richmond supporters (stir Edwards up) because the people back home wouldn't have a clue, my mates wouldn't have a clue either," Edwards said.
"But my host family (in Melbourne) know that Sheedy wore it (No. 10) and they get into me about it. It's all in good spirit though."
A pacy midfielder blessed with an element of class, Edwards bares absolutely no resemblance to the back pocket plumber who now coaches Essendon.
But there is one facet of Sheedy's game the 18-year-old is desperate to replicate.
"(Edwards' host family say) he's one of the toughest players to ever play so it's a lot to live up to and that kind of stuff," Edwards said.
"We're totally different players but the fact is you've got to be hard at it either way, that's something you want to live up to for sure."
Under the spotlight of national TV, Edwards upheld his ethos against the Western Bulldogs as he adjusted to the pace of the game with ease.
But making a clanger in front of millions of viewers in his first game was something which played on the teenager's mind until he chalked up his opening disposal.
"I was really nervous on the field just running around before I touched the ball," Edwards recalled.
"When I got it and I didn't screw it up, it made my nerves ease.
"It was an awesome experience, the best you can get. You don't even know you're on TV when you're playing at North Adelaide, here (AFL) you have to wait for the umpire to bounce the ball."
After living with Tiger captain Kane Johnson initially, Edwards has had no shortage of advice. And now that he feels a part of the Punt Road club, he intends on putting it to good use.
"I've learned a lot from him," Edwards said of his skipper. "Now I just want to keep my spot and really try to learn the game (at AFL level) because it will help me for years to come."

Thought he was great on Friday - a glimpse of the future that doesn't look to bad to be honest
-
He was terrific, he certainly had the Adelaide fans reaching for their footy records on Friday night!
Got caught a few times but big deal, when he gets stronger he will be a superstar!!
Exactly Bull, you will get caught occasionally if you try and break the lines, but he is never gonna die wondering what could've been!

Yeah where i was sitting they were booing him before half time - beautiful sign :rollin
-
What did we all think of Shane's game last night?
-
Edwards has that sopecial something, when ever he gets the ball something happens
he will be a star
-
Yep he's going to be a gem.
Those 12ish possessions a game will turn into 16 which will turn into 20 as the AFL fitness base gets into him and he gets the experience.
Im a massive fan. :thumbsup

2011 is looking good.

you know something strikes me with Richmond supporters is that any time a new player shows 5 minutes of football his regarded as a class act ??? he aint done poo

but going to far i agree calling Edwards a class act ...
he needs to kick more goals ...

Edwards gets with the program
7:00 PM Tue 10 July, 2007
By Catherine Murphy,
for richmondfc.com.au
EVERY week two Richmond players are given the task of presenting the Tigers’ game plan for the weekend’s upcoming clash to the rest of the playing group along with coach Terry Wallace.
This week it’s the turn of Shane Edwards and Will Thursfield.
As the two youngsters prepare to explain the tactics that they hope will topple Hawthorn, 18-year-old Edwards says he’s looking forward to the opportunity, but admits that it’s not the easiest thing to do.
"I haven’t actually done it before but the players who have, have told me that it’s pretty daunting because they have to know the game plan back to front,” he says.
However Edwards says that not all of the players share his apprehension about their presenting duties.
“I was talking to Jack Riewoldt and he said it was a lot of fun, so I can’t wait to do it,” he says.
Having always admired Tigers’ club champion Matthew Richardson when growing up, Edwards says standing in front of him and delivering the game plan will be a little surreal.
“It’s still scary just knowing that you’re wearing the same jumper as him. But it should be pretty fun telling him what we have to do,” Edwards says.
Along with his presenting task, Edwards is down to attend both pre-match and post-match press conferences. This week’s pre-match media conference was held at AFL World, where a host of Tigers’ fans turned up to see the players speak. Edwards says that more than anything he enjoys meeting the Tigers’ young fans.
“I’m no good at it (press conferences) but I like to think I’m getting better every time I do it. It’s humbling to see all the kids here to see you. It still all feels like a bit of a dream to be honest.”

Thought Edwards played fairly well again today, still very raw so you cant expect him to have a huge impact.
Showed plenty though and has real class about him. Has very good evasive skills and disposal is pretty good. A big summer on the weights should see him do well next year.

Agree Birdman. Edwards also knows the right spots to run to. As he improves his fitness and strength with another preseason or two under his belt and collects more of the footy with more gametime he'll be a very good player for us.

Coaching: the inside story
4:55 PM Mon 16 July, 2007
richmondfc.com.au
EMERGING Tiger Shane Edwards has a new appreciation for coaches.
The club encourages its young players to each spend a week with the coaching staff to study the planning that goes into each match.
Last week, Edwards and Will Thursfield stepped up to the plate, and this week it was the turn of Edwards, the 18-year-old South Australian, to learn about the magnitude of the job the coaches do every week.
......
The nine-gamer now has one major focus: to spend as much time as possible in the gym to build up his 71kg frame.
"I'm working on it now, since the start really, but it will take me a while to catch up to the other blokes," he said.
"It's probably my biggest goal, and we have a lot of blokes at the club who have the same goal. All the skinny blokes do weights together, and we have a competition about who puts on the most.
"It keeps it interesting. Andy Collins might be winning at the moment, but he's got a lot more mud than any of the rest of us."

nah, he'd be puffed just running on to the field :lol

The one player that keeps me interested in this joke of a footy club. :clapping
-
I gave Edwards votes today just because after a handful of games he knows more about using the footy cleanly than his senior teammates who fumble, can't hit targets from 20m away and play on into trouble when they should stop and stop when they should get the ball moving :scream. He was running around with Peter Burgoyne at times so he would've got a good footy education too from a star premiership player.

FOOTY SMARTS :clapping
Never stops trying and just keeps running, Richo if he were a midfielder (but with better kicking skills)

FOOTY SMARTS :clapping
Got it in one bluey_21
Enough said

Yep - Grouse again - A diamond in the rough this kid.
Get Connors in the side ..... >:(
-
if connors adds discipline to his game and overcomes these alleged off-field behaviour he will be an absolute GEM.
-
edwards will be a class act and is a genuine half forward !!!
-
If only we could win a game we might give Edwards a chance of a rising star nomination. 14, 18 and 15 possessions plus 13 marks and 4 goals in the past 3 weeks .

IMO he will get one in his own right by years end

Yes Edwards does stand out from the crowd. Even though he's still slightly built he did make a couple of very good tackles against the Swans and his running goal from the left forward stuff was just sensational. His finishing was first class! :clapping In any other team it would have been inspirational but nothing seems to inspire us at the moment. For a kid to have so much fire in the belly in a team that is pathetic at best says a lot. He is the ONLY reason why I am watching games at the moment.
He will be our next superstar and is already showing a hell of a lot more than other more fancied players like Tambling.

favourite part of the game was when we were coming out of defence and he took that fantastic contested mark at CHB :clapping
terry like that too! see him smiling in the box
even when edwards took them all on, sure he missed the goal , but the way he went about. u could see on terrys face in the box that he knows this kid is gonna be something "speaciaaaaaaaaaal"
that was gold. Fantastic running and evasion, and I thought this is going to be a beaut goal .......... but then he shanked it lol
-
You gotta love the way that Edwards goes about it, he is going to be a real talent in a couple of years.
Has real footy smarts and become one of our standout players.

Shane just hung on the ball a fraction too long. He shanked it left because he saw a Collingwood player coming at him out of the corner of his eye to his right. He had done all the magical hard stuff too. It reminded me of his goal against Hawthorn where he had opponents diving at shadows. Edwards is all class :thumbsup.
-
Too bad Edwards had a quiet game in our win (his first win) on Friday night. I know it's not really a big deal for the future but he deserves a Rising Star nomination before the season is done.

Brian Royal RFC player review
Shane Edwards
Shane played 17 games in his first year, which is amazing for a kid of his size. What Shane needs now is to get back in the gym, have a big pre-season and try and put on a bit of muscle. He is going to play a lot more footy for the Richmond Football Club in the future.
