Title: PATTISON
Post by: TIGER 03 on June 02, 2007, 11:49:46 PM
Is pattison the worst draft selection since richard lounder. how slow is he, and how many marks does he drop. Dont know why they persist with him in the ruck, would rather see angus graham out there. he supposed to be a forward/pinch hit ruckman, but i cant see him troubling to many backs. yet another draft wasted, will we ever get it right at the draft.        :help

As you say, doesn't move very well and no footy smarts. I wan't him to make it, he seems a likeable bloke, but I don't think he will.

How many 3rd year rucks are out there being asked to be their side's number 1 ruck?

To me he's shown enough this year to suggest he will be a good backup, a guy that can spell someone like Simmonds for 5-10 minutes a quarter and make a contribution up forward at times. He's still learning and he'll be inconsistent for a while, but the progress is definitely there.

Spot on.  :bow

Far too harsh on the young kid.

My nomination for best clubman for this year.
Hopeless player, but great clubman lol  :thumbsup

HE IS WHAT???  20 or 21????   :banghead :banghead :banghead

stuff me.  Way to jump on a kid's back that is shouldering basically all the weight of a ruck.

Since when has a 20 years old ruckman dominated.

At least he got more possessions than Charman.

I'm not knocking his endeavour, the weight he's had to carry.
I just look away every time he gets the ball - he scares the crap out of me lol
Of course he will get better and probably does a lot more that I don't see, but he's pretty raw.

I've seen suburban ruckmen that look like better footballers than Patto....but then I may be fooled that they are only playing domestic football, it can be easy for big guys to dominate that, esp as the onballers get more and more tired.

Hamish McIntosh is 22 and he is tearing games apart. Maybe there is some hope!

Exactly my point.

McIntosh was never expected to make it last year and he was a year older than Patto is now.

Blake for the Catters has done the exact same thing this year.  He was bumbling far worse than Patto last year.

Geez Richmond supporters that expect the world from every 20 year old annoys me.  :banghead

Taller players or bigger players tend to take longer to develop than a midfielder or a half forward flanker. Sure the kid is slow and his disposal lets him down at times but the kid is only in his 3rd season and still learning the trade. Guys like Matthew Clarke have made a successful prolonged career playing in the ruck and possessing all the slow cumbersome characteristics as well as being relatively unskilled. As I said the upside is he is only 20 and the kid will learn. I have faith in the kid as a second string ruckman once Simmo gets fit. If Patto can learn to be more aware of what is around him he will be a more than handy foil for a first choice ruckman.

I have time for Patto. I think that's because I remember what Benny Gale was like when he was Patto's age. He's also a second string ruckman as HT74 says.

Massive ask this week though against Sandilands. Not only in experience but Patto is also giving away 5 foot in height :help.

Prefer to give Patto the experience.

Loved the Staff but we must look to the future.

I don't care if we lose every match this year.

Oh for sure.  I was just thinking of the height difference.  And also remembering a particular game when Staff was up against Sandilands.

How did we all think Patto went against Freo yesterday?
Title: Re: PATTISON
Post by: jezza on June 11, 2007, 12:02:03 PM
Thought he competed well. Won the odd hitout but in general did well just to make Sandilands earn it and beat Sandilands around the ground. About as good as I expected going in.

Problem was he basically did it all himself, got to the last quarter and was clearly stuffed and it really hurt us. Our only options were to put a young non-ruck like Cleve, Richo (breaking our forward structure) or Polak (breaking our defensive structure and exposing Bowden). Was a major factor in them getting on top in the last quarter.

Most admit I reckon Pattos form this year has been a bit under-rated. Played very well considering his doing it pretty much by himself  :clapping

How did we rate Patto's game on Friday night?

Quote
Wallace also pointed to the performance of 21-year-old ruckman Adam Pattison, who took several courageous marks against the Demons and has battled against the odds throughout the season, after better-credentialled ruckmen Troy Simmonds and Trent Knobel went down injured.

"Adam Pattison has been super-courageous and gets no credit because he's a secondary ruckman who should be playing probably as much forward as what he ever does in the ruck," Wallace.

"At the very most he should be playing against the second-string ruckman and not playing against the initial first ruckman for the opposition.

"So therefore all we get is our rucks are undermanned or we haven't got any rucks, he's working his heart out for us week in and week out, he's been absolutely outstanding."

Ox you misunderstand, I was expecting some sort of homophobic comment about me being "behind" the coach. (which I got, it does seem like a focus of yours)

Nothing to do with a lack of support, I was trying to be funny.

You still get nervous whenever Patto has to find the footy on the ground. Still a touch gangly and not so sure below the knees yet. Kicking also needs to improve. 64% effectiveness. I agree with Julz. His inexperience shows but he tries his guts out. A lot like a young Benny Gale. Despite that I reckon he'll be good for us in the long-term.

Patto tries hard but his inexperience does let him down.  Will be better doubling up with Simmo.  What is going on with Knobel?
Knobel still 2 weeks away with his ankle.
