His lawyer blamed the floor mat :banghead
and now an elderly woman lies somewhere a quadraplegic.
If it was my mother i reckon i would shoot him in the kneecaps and elbows.
RETRIAL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Worse than Matthew Newtons verdict

what do you expect, footballers can get away with ANYTHING.
Condolences to the woman and her family.

He got off on a legal technicality. Apparently with the charge he was on, the judge can't take into account the consequences of the collision ???. As he was driving 40-45 km/r he wasn't speeding and the judge said he couldn't prove beyond doubt that it was driver error.
The legal system doesn't take into account what happens to victims :( ::).

what do you mean brackets, of course I don't think it is good enough that AFL players can get away with anything.
Just look at how the AFL dealt with Didak and Cousins, absolutely farcical

Nor should it. We don't live in an eye-for-an-eye society.
Sometimes life is stuffed but theres no point ruining two lives.

Should be some kind of compensation hopefully though.
-
Yeah there should be Moi.
The important things regarding criminal charges are recklessness or intent. If you can't prove either then it is just an unfortunate accident.
-
Would TAC fit the bill if they can't find anyone liable?
-
It was an unfortunate accident. Teague made a mistake, so did the woman who was sleeping in her car. I hate to say this but roads are made for driving motor vehicles, not sleeping.

cars are not made for getting sucked off in while u drive.....................

While I agree Jake that we don't live in an eye-for-an-eye society and agree with that in the main, there are times when people need to face-up to the consequences of their actions. Matthew Newton won his appeal by his lawyer successfully arguing that a criminal conviction against his name would affect his future career prospects. Well he should have thought of that before he goes hitting into a girlfriend ::). There are also the situations where the defendant's past (say bad childhood) is used as a defence yet there's no mention of the trauma and life-long effects that the victim will have to endure when judging sentences. You do ruin two lives when a soft sentence results in a re-offence.
