Slight corky last week bluey_21 - fine this week, ready to go :thumbsup

Which Polkinghorne is that?
Hopefully Gus and Cass will put in another good game at Coburg and make their AFL debut before the season is out.

any relation to the kid down at calder
Just checked the fixtures page on the VFL site and it's him listed - James Polkinghorne. Maybe we're trying to have a very close look at him. Play him against men rather than U18 boys and see how he stands up. He's an inside mid/ballwinner which is what we need.

WTF, can he do that.

WTF, can he do that.
Coburg has promoted promising James Polkinghorne, 18, from its TAC Cup affiliate club Calder Cannons and named him at half-back for the Scorpions clash.

The 3-tier affiliation is working already. Too bad it doesn't stop other AFL clubs from snaring Coburg players.
-
WTF, can he do that.
Yes they can - it appears it's been a rule there for quite sometme. They've just never used it before

so theoretically if Kreuzer, Cotchin, Vezpremi and and etc played for Calder they could be gaining VFL experience atm

Presumably although there may be a limit (?) to the number allowed to be promoted. It would be a massive loss to a TAC Cup side to lose all their best players to the VFL midseason.
Back pocket Mitchell Farmer and Ashley Arrowsmith who played in the U18 Champs also play for Calder. Darcy Daniher does as well but he'll be a Dons' F/S.

Game still up for grabs. Plenty of mistakes. Players on by sides getting run down for being too slow. Coburg smalls doing the damage. When Gus is on the ground Coburg get on top. No Ronaldson today so Peterson is 2nd ruck. Getting some taps too given he is only 6ft.

How did James Polkinghorne go? I only remember his name mentioned once in the call.

Match Report Vs. Casey Scorpions
coburgtigers.footballvic.com.au
Coburg continued their winning streak to five wins on Sunday with a gallant 18 point victory over the improving Scorpions. Both sides went into the game having won their past 4 matches. Casey had an ordinary start to the season, but have really improved in the past month and are now looking to push for a finals position. It was a fantastic win for the Burgers and now puts them 4 points clear in second position on the ladder.
In what was a fairly even first quarter the Burgers took an eleven point lead into the first break. Angus Graham continued his excellent from that has twice seen him as an emergency for Richmond, with a dominant display in the ruck and around the ground. The second quarter saw the Scorpions have more scoring shots, but inaccurate kicking allowed Coburg to extend their lead to thirteen points at half time.
Saint Kilda listed player; Brett Voss was the standout player for Casey and ended the match kicking six goals and getting best for the Scorpions. Neither team could clearly get on top of the other with the game still up for grabs after half time.
The third quarter was played more tightly, with only five goals kicked. Jarrod Sylvester took charge in the backline and helped keep the Scorpions to only two goals for the term. The Burgers were happy to take a three goal advantage into the last quarter. In the past Coburg have really run away with games after leading at ¾ time, but Casey managed to stay with the Burgers till the final siren, with both teams kicking five goals in the final quarter.
Jay Schultz kicked four goals for the Burgers, and marked extremely well around the ground. Al Neville won a lot of ball in his usual classy way and also chipped in with two important goals, while Greg Tivendale won a lot of clearances out of the middle and his piercing left boot set up many opportunities for the Burger forwards.
Congratulations should also go to Daniel Connors who made his debut for Richmond on Saturday night, after a solid month of football for Coburg.
The Burgers play Geelong on Saturday this week at Skilled Stadium in what will be a ripping match, as it is 2nd v 3rd.

That's funny because it's true. No one gets rubbed out anymore ;D.
JON must be the first player suspended for fending off a tackler ???.

why does schulz get votes after playing a typical schulz game, hot for a quarter then falls asleep. proves he cant even play 4 quarters for coburg
I will assume you listened xXx and didn't trek half way across the state to Cranbourne ;D
He played 4 solid quarters xXx - yeas he didn't kick any goals in the 2nd & 3rd qtrs but his work around the forward line making a contest and backing it up with 2nd & 3rd efforts to keep the ball in the Coburg F50 was very good. What the radio wouldn't tell you is the 1% ers that don't get recorded on the stats sheet. Busting packs open, sheperds etc - radio, TV etc don't meniton those sort of things
JON must be the first player suspended for fending off a tackler ???.
Absolute joke of a decision. Nothing in it. Didn't even raise his arm ::) I remember the days when Footy was a contact sport :banghead
What makes it worse of course is being in Sydey the night b4, watching Barry Hall whack Luke McGuane in the guts once, across the head on another ocassion and he deosn't even get cited.
Great system
On JON's kicking MT - alot better this week. Was kicking it much further - that is kicking through the ball. I can only remember him turning it over twice by foot
Polkinghorne: solid lad, seemed a bit lost a few times (over awed I suppose) but seem to have good skills. I believe theire is another lad from Calder playing for them this week
-
Cheers WP :cheers
Hopefully it's Mitchell Farmer who gets a go.

They just said on the VFL show on SEN that it is Mitch Farmer. Good stuff :clapping. There's not much of him but he dominated in the wet in the U18 champs chopping off SA attacks and rebounding out of defence. Looks a footballer.
This is all Andy Collins idea :thumbsup. First James Polkinghorne last week and now Farmer. The bloke on SEN said Collins is at the forefront of development in the VFL and should be coaching at AFL level.

Tigers’ bite stings Scorpions
Berwick News
By Marc McGowan
2nd August 2007 02:05:30 AM
THE Casey Scorpions’ four-match winning streak came to a disappointing end at the hands of the Coburg Tigers in round 16 Victorian Football League action at Casey Fields on Sunday.
The 18-point defeat was a frustrating result for the Scorpions as they had their chances in the much-hyped encounter and finished with two more scoring shots than their rivals.
Further bad news followed after the contest for Casey, with captain Nigel Carmody accepting a one-match sanction from the VFL for charging Richmond tall Angus Graham in the opening quarter.
The Tigers entered the clash in third place on the ladder and with their own four-match unbeaten run.
Coming off the bye and with leading goalkicker Justin Sweeney absent, it was the Scorpions who had the scoreboard ticking over first, when Saint Andrew McQualter split the middle after receiving the first of several free kicks Casey benefited from early on.
Four straight behinds ensued for the home side, before Tiger prospect Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls, who enjoyed an impressive day off half-back, streamed through the middle and delivered perfectly to Richmond teammate Jay Schulz.
Schulz banged through Coburg’s opener and added two of the next three goals as the Tigers took control.
His Scorpion opponent James Wall was banished to the bench for James Gwilt and it proved to be an astute move.
However, it was Coburg that held an 11-point buffer at the first break.
Steven Harrison was as dogged as ever for Casey at the stoppages, with his tackling and clearance work a feature, but demoted Tiger veteran Greg Tivendale was wreaking havoc through his hard running and sublime left-foot disposal. ;)
St Kilda youngster Robert Eddy was switched onto Tivendale and did a commendable job, although the latter’s class stood out all afternoon.
The Scorpions slipped 27 points in arrears midway through the second term only for them to produce one of their now trademark fightbacks.
Casey managed three of the next four majors, but pint-sized Coburg midfielder Fortunato Caruso snapped truly from 25 metres to halt its momentum as the visitors went into half-time 13 ahead.
Brett Voss, whose presence inside 50 metres grew the longer the match went on, wasted two opportunities at the start of the second half to give him just one six-pointer from five attempts.
The Tigers booted the first goal of the third quarter and the clubs traded majors from then on as Coburg kept the Scorpions at arm’s length.
Facing an 18-point deficit at the last change, coach Peter Banfield urged his troops to lift and singled out Saint David Armitage for a huge effort.
But it was not to be, as Patrick Bowden, Caruso and then Brent Hartigan stretched the lead to a game-high 36.
Casey did not give up and Voss slotted two straight goals – taking his personal tally to five – as the margin was slashed again.
When Harrison handballed over the top to Troy Makepeace for maximum points, the crowd anticipated yet another stirring comeback and roared in appreciation.
A horrendous Stefan Garrubba turnover almost brought it all unstuck only for Bowden to miss an easy set-shot in front from 20 metres.
But soon after Gwilt gave away a free kick to Schulz and his fourth goal sealed the contest.
Banfield was incensed with his squad’s ball-use to the forwards and wayward finishing in front of the sticks.
“At the end of the day they beat us and I don’t think we played that well. Our conversion was poor,” he said.
“We were all over them at the start of the game, but we just didn’t kick the goals, which was a telling factor.”
Banfield was also keen to sound a warning to the Tigers if the two clubs were to cross paths again come finals time.
“Hopefully we get another opportunity to play them because if they’re the third-best side in the competition, we’re not that far away,” he said. :wallywink
