Forward Scout: Richmond v Sydney Swans
12:15 PM Fri 27 July, 2007
By Greg Lange,
for richmondfc.com.au

THIS WEEK

Everyone has a lot of time for the Swans as a club and a footy team. So, our main goal is to get a win on the board against a good opposition on their home ground.

In round two, they got away from us in the last quarter as we were unable to go with their midfield. However, this time we are travelling together with a relatively young side for a couple of days which is going to provide us with a good opportunity to get a victory on the board.

SHAKING THE SYDNEY SWANS “TAG”

Clearances are going to be a key component to this weekend’s game. Fortunately, our clearances statistics for this year stack up well. So, I think we will be able to handle the type of game they have become well known for.

INJURED SWANS

We have prepared as though both Barry Hall and Tadhg Kennelly will play –it is the better than being under prepared. We have put a lot of time and respect into the opposition, but, the way we go about our game this weekend is going to be our main focus.

OUR FRAME OF MIND

Our frame of mind has been pretty good. We have had an excellent week and changed a couple of things, subtly. We have also put a bit of ownership back onto the players and how they go about things and take control of their own actions, so to speak. It all comes at a good time with a young side going interstate to be challenged and determine where we stack up.

When last we met:

Richmond v Sydney Swans at the MCG, round two, 2007:

Swans 13.10 (88) to the Tigers 11.6 (72).

WIN PERCENTAGE

Richmond v Sydney Swans: 56.46 per cent (Tigers)

Richmond v Sydney Swans at the SCG: 50 per cent

KB is disappointed Hyde, Tivs and Schulz aren't in the side.

Some Tigers stats:
Hitouts: 16th (Swans 1st)
Clearances: 16th  (Swans 1st)
Tackles: 16th (Swans 3rd)

Polak on Barry Hall. Sounds like we're going man-on-man.

Understatement of the year that we need a ruckman.

Connors won't want to remember his first kick  :P

The matchups are terrible - we don't have the cattle.
Umps don't help when you see a blatant deliberate out of bounds not paid.

Go Kel Moore - Goal

Swans are working a million times harder. They can stuff around and play cute and still have time to find targets ::).

Quarter time. 7 points down.

A lot closer than it could have been. Good last 5 minutes. Young blokes like Edwards got us back into the game. Amazing what happens when you work hard as a team  ::). We had 14 of the last 17 tackles. Leading the hitouts, clearances and inside 50s so doing okay there. Sounds like we are going to Richo to often though.

The way they came back was good, it knocked a bit of the cockiness out of the Swans who thought they could do anything in the first 15 minutes (and they did).  Give them something to think about.

Still a huge ask!

What happened to hands in the back. Sure KB the rule is clear  ::)

You're right Moi. If it was Richo it would have been paid against him.

Can someone please explain to me in another thread when is a tackle a free?
Seen what I thought were frees (both sides) when after they're tackled the ball is not disposed of by hand or foot.
Even if it's an instant tackle and player doesn't have time to get rid of it, should be a free if he just drops the ball.

Anyone?

Think Rainsey
But Rainsey's not doing a bad job I don't reckon - running around a bit both ends of ground, had a centre clearance.
Everyone picks on Rainsey but he gets the most lop-sided match ups each week  :banghead

1.4 to 4.1 this quarter. Says it all. We've had our chances and are in this game but can't kick straight  :banghead.

It changes every week Moi. If the ump thinks the ball is dropped in the tackle then it's play on. If the ump reckons the player has had a chance to dispose of it then it's holding the ball.

Connors has done well on debut. Make a couple of blues but overall not lost at this level and didn't take any crap from Barry Hall  ;D :thumbsup.

Most pleasing thing is our younger guys are showing a bit and having a dip.  Edwards showing his class. Even Tambo sounded as though he's lifted.

Simmo and patto at least breaking even with Everitt and Jolly that quarter.

Richo has been well held so far too yet we're in the game. We need the first goal though.

Browny goal.

By my reckoning without those free kicks they got we would be in front by now

Umpiring is above questioning thanks to the AFL even when it's crap. Copping another fine might be needed. This is a joke.

3/4 time

Rich  9.9-63
Syd  16.7-103

In the game for 2 1/2 quarters but poor goalkicking and some dodgy umpiring decisons meant we couldn't bridge the gap on the scoreboard. Our workrate fell away as the Swans lifted theirs and got on top in the clearances and they blew us away in the last 5-10 minutes.

Hartford said on SEN that Edwards is a key for us in the last quarter and he dropped away that quarter. Sheesh he's only in his first year FFS! Where's our senior players once again. Where's the leadership? Browny has 3 but the other 3 have done bugger all tonight.

Disappointing to fall away in the last 40 minutes. We were in front in the cleanrances at half-time but ended up 14 behind by the end :P. Swans kicked 9 of the last 10 goals. Too skillful, relentless and experienced.

Hartford on SEN saying Tambo doesn't gut run to get to enough contests and hasn't developed as the Tiges would have liked. Has the talent but has become too outside. Needs to win his own ball.

Pretty accurate comment going on tonight.
Lots of others though not getting involved and leaving it to too few.
Thought our senior players, with the exception of Newman, didn't do enough!
Connors was a solid debut I thought!

Woeful game.  Whoever is the skills coach should be shot.  So many missed targets.  Richo didn't have the best game (x will be calling for him to be dropped - for something different) but Craig Bolton put plenty of pressure on his and the commentators mentioned that Richo's team mates simply weren't kicking the ball to him.  Our players tackle like a bunch of girls (sorry to the ladies on OER).  Why did Terry persist with Foley on Brett Kirk?  Newman our best player.  Browny pretty good.  Our inexperience is really showing.  Thursty did ok on O'Loughlin.

Ok tigermonk you have said nothing to suggest that you are in fact a sydney supporter not a tiger.

i just dont understand why you would want to say nothing negative stuff about a first gamer flying the flag against a junior boxing champ and some-one twice his size and weight.

Daniel Conners showed a big set of cahuna's tonight so i think you should cut him some slack and stop sucking up barry hall's ass.
If you were a Tiger supporter you would be applauding Conners not Hall!

i think your a phoney :) :lol
