Cats tickets selling fast
Geelong Addy

Fewer than 1700 tickets remain available for Saturday's clash between top side Geelong and bottom side Richmond at Skilled Stadium, with the club urging fans to get in early to avoid disappointment.

Geelong chief operations officer Stuart Fox said some scattered single seats still remained available for Saturday's game against Richmond, as well as a number of general admission tickets.

``If people are thinking about coming it is really important to get in early,'' he said.

Spot the difference especially the 100-149 gamers. Those drafted 5-8 years ago. Sheesh I wonder why we are still crap  :whistle. What a bonus for Geelong to have a rotten year last year. Pick up Selwood, Varcoe plus Hawkins as F/S to add quality youth to their side of established stars.

Geelong - Used 30 players

200+ games: Milburn
150-199: Harley, King, Ling, Ottens, Scarlett
100-149: G.Ablett, Bartel, Chapman, Corey, Enright, Kelly, Mooney, Wojcinski
50-99: Egan, Hunt, D.Johnson, S.Johnson, Mackie, Rooke, Tenace, Gardiner
25-49: Blake, Byrnes
1-24: N.Ablett, Hawkins, Selwood, Stokes, Varcoe, Prismall

Richmond - Used 36 players

200+: J.Bowden, Richo, Gaspar
150-199: Browny, Johnson, Simmonds, Tivendale
100-149: Kingsley, Krakouer, Newman
50-99: P.Bowden, Deledio, Hyde, Pettifer, Polak, Tuck
25-49: Foley, Hartigan, Jackson, Pattison, Polo, Raines, Schulz, Tambling
1-24: Connors, Edwards, Howat, Hughes, King, McGuane, Meyer, Moore, JON, Riewoldt, Thursfield, White

Pains me to see it, pains me to say it - but those numbers/names are the key

I'd trade for Chapman actually

I'm a big Chapman fan too WP. A human cannonball who can star in the midfield and up forward. We couldn't trade for him though. Geelong wouldn't let him go and he'd cost a fortune in picks/$$$ even if they did.

Actually he is one of those players I can't stand (because he always spanks us :'()  but if we had him in Y&B I'd love it. Great leadership, in your face sort of player we need some of them

Richmond
100-149: Kingsley, Krakouer, Newman

Quite embarrassing really.

This is why we are way off. Even our 50 - 99 gamers only really see Deledio and Polak as good players.

3 - 5 years before the group below even hit 100 games.

hot chilli sauce also told me chapman may not play. also, mooney may be rested and the cats will play 3 ruckmen with otto rotating ruck and ff duties.

there is no way that chapman will ever ever leave geelong. ever!

we may actually win this week, if geelong play king, we are in for a chance! lol

hope so, something in my loins is teeling me the upset of the century is upon us, terry has preesure on him also, many including me doubting his coaching ability, not that my thoughts matter. but if we beat geelong this week, it will take alot of heat off terry and his ability to coach

if a miracle happens, i will be sitting in the geelong social club with all geelong social club members, wouldnt that be nice to see them shattered , losing to a bottom team and a team that has been geelongs b!tch for so long!

Forward Scout: Richmond v Geelong
2:27 PM Thu 2 August, 2007
By Greg Lange
for richmondfc.com.au

Richmond assistant coach David King runs his eye over the Tigers’ clash with the Cats at Skilled Stadium on Saturday.

LAST WEEK
We learned a bit about Daniel Connors last week. He had 15 possessions in his first game and certainly knows how to find the ball. Shane Edwards was classy again, and did some things that really give you confidence. Also, I think the natural improvement of Will Thursfield down back and even Luke McGuane, although he was well beaten by Barry Hall, are positive signs for the club.

THIS WEEK
We are up against a side that has won its past 12 games, so it is going to be a tough challenge, no doubt about that. We just have to make sure we give a good account of ourselves and are competitive – which we definitely were not last time we played them. For us, each week is about about improving and showing the Richmond fans we are on the right track.

WHAT ARE WE UP AGAINST
Geelong is an even outfit. The players are all strong and tough and use the ball well, particularly when they overlap in the midfield. Jimmy Bartel, Paul Chapman, Joel Corey and Brownlow Medal favorite Gary Ablett are probably their key four players in the midfield.

In the forward line, they have some game-breakers. Mathew Stokes kicked five goals last week, Steve Johnson is in fine form, Cameron Mooney is important for them and the list goes on. That is why they are $2.50 for the flag.

OUR FRAME OF MIND
Even in a tough season there is always something to prove. This time of year a lot of decisions have to be made about players’ futures. So the younger blokes have to show they want to be apart of Richmond’s future, and some of the older players will have a point to prove.

Hot-pot Cats
03 August 2007   Herald Sun
Adam Hamilton

GEELONG'S odds to beat Richmond tomorrow are the shortest in AFL head-to-head betting history.

TAB Sportsbet opened the Cats at $1.04 and didn't expect much business. Instead it has been swamped.

"We're now into $1.02," TAB's Gary Davies said.

"We're holding over $60,000 on the match and $59,000 is on the Cats. One punter had $25,000 at $1.03 for a profit of just $750."

The hapless Tigers are $15 to cause a huge upset with Betfair.

TAB Sportsbet odds:

Geelong   $  1.02
Richmond  $ 11.00

Geelong  -50.5 Pts  $ 1.90
Richmond +50.5 Pts  $ 1.90

Geelong Under 39.5 Pts  $ 2.75
Geelong Over 39.5 Pts   $ 1.48
Draw  51.00
Richmond Under 39.5 Pts $ 12.00
Richmond Over 39.5 Pts  $ 45.00

Tigers looking for reverse
AAP/The Australian
August 04, 2007

HAVING opened the door for Geelong's stunning string of 12 wins, Richmond now wants to slam it shut.

But the Tigers will face a team today offering the shortest odds in AFL history and seem to be chasing a forlorn hope.

The last time Richmond and Geelong met, at Telstra Dome in round six, the Cats won 35.12(222) to 9.11(65).

Today's game offers an even gloomier prospect for the Tigers as it will be at the Cats' home ground of Skilled Stadium, where they have reigned this year.

Richmond's only hope of avoiding another demolition will be the weather -- rain, wind and a slow track will restrict the scoring opportunities.

But Tigers coach Terry Wallace said the side will battle on as well as it can with what he calls his young developing list with their lack of experience and strength.

"I think every time you go out you want to put your best foot forward. We put our worst foot forward against the Cats the last time around," Wallace said.

"I think that was probably the start of what has now become a fabulous run for them as a team. It probably opened the door for them but we want to go down and see how we go against a side that's playing in such great form.

"To play the best side at this stage of the year is probably good for us because I think young players can learn more."

But he said the side was resolved not to suffer a repeat thrashing.

"We don't want to get belted, that's not what we're about," Wallace said.

Bookmakers have predicted an avalanche however, offering $1.02 for Geelong and $11 for a Richmond win.

"They're the shortest-priced favourite who have ever gone around," Wallace said.

Geelong has been boosted by the inclusion of former captain Steven King, who will line up for the first time since round six.

After three games in the reserves due to an injury, King will bolster the Cats' big man stocks.

Cats defender Matthew Scarlett said the side planned to prepare for Richmond as if it were playing a league pacesetter.

"We're going to treat it like we're playing the West Coast Eagles this week," Scarlett said on Geelong's website.

"We're going to go out there and do what we plan to do, and stick to the plan again and worry about us, and us only.

"We're just going to do what we want to do, and the rest will take care of itself."

Well we got lucky that the pussy cats didnt really come to play at 100%. Nevertheless

Conners can play the game
Graham sort of looks like he can play abit, hes a keep for 2008.
Tambling was good inside particularly with his hands, liked his game but has plenty more to do
Somelike Hughes and Riewoldt hardly sighted although Jack did more than Cleve.

Now the concerns

Newman is a B grade Half Back who is majorly tradeable
Raines is going backwards
Bowden is B grade Utility who is also majorly tradeable
Tuck, I dont understand where he sort of fits into the future
Johnson is gone as a footballer.
Pettifer is also going backwards.

Plenty of average players. A 70 point loss shows where we are at, The GFC werent 100% switched on today if they were it would have been a 20+ goal flogging.

You're not going to win games with only one legitimate ballwinner who can bust his guts out. Most of our players can't (older players) or haven't (cubs) reached the workrate levels needed to play modern footy so get such down too easily or get meaningless possessions. Once Foley starts to tire the score blows out in the second half.

And I'd make Nathan Brown the captain.

What was really disappointing that the cancer is spreading to other players, noticed Reiwoldt refusing to chance and actually gave up in 2nd quarter. not good.

we havent got any leaders jacko. Richo busts a gut, Browns a class act, the rest are a rabble. Bowden thinks hes a leader lol, Newman thinks hes a potential leader...we should trade the last 2 at seasons end.

The way he's playing that wouldn't be a surprise.

I totally and wholeheartedly agree with you () )( Jackstar.
Bowden avoided the hard ball yet get 30 easy touches yet at least half of them were coughed up.
How Johnson is a captain of an AFL club is beyond me. There was a passage of play in the third quarter where he
was tackled when he had time to dispose holding the ball.
Another one in the centre got the ball had time yet ran himself into trouble and coughed the ball up.
Our senior players are shoeing nothing . Newman shocking today.
I am at the point anyone over 24 trade bait delist. The kids are showing more.
Connors in is second game right now for me has got more kudos than K Johnson all year.
Joel Bowden is a cancer on this football club. The sooner these guys go the better we will be otherwise
Terry's 2011 assessmnet of us will be merely when we will climb to 15th spot.

Andrew Jarman on SEN just said that Richmond have terrible leadership (we already know this) and that Richo should be captain.

Said Sugar was no good as captain and that he also believes that we have gone 5 years backwards.

in 05 everyone said the pies were finished because they came second last

where are those detractors now  ::)

every year some club gets picked on, this year it is us, it is how they sell newspapers, and get ratings

jarman is right but wrong about richo! what kind of captain would richo be! crap!
today u may think he kicked 4 goals, wrong, 1 was a behind and the field umpire the goal umpire after the goal umpire already tapped his shoulder to signal a behind, the kick missed, richo was lucky, another goal , rich was awarded and it was touched on the line! richo lucky

but

scarlet ran off him, way to easy and egan even out muscled wimpy richo.  richo failed to chase and  man up scarlet atleast 4 or 5 times when scarlet decided to warm up and go 4 a run!

richo only works hard when it suits him, not the team! he is no captain!

we have no leaders

future leaders are foley connors riewoldt, but they will end up becoming sh it because they are being taught and influenced that way by sugar, joel richo and terry

we must , and i mean must delist and trade all players 25 yrs(but keep brown and snake) and above, trade newman and raines  and pee terry off and if ppl dont like it stiff sh it! time for rfc to finally stand up and be tough

terry richo sugar joel tiv tuck etc f em all away!

enough is stuffing enough!

Too many lazy footballers wear yellow and black these days. The cats ran us into the ground and played with an intensity and aggression that we have not had for 6 or 7 years.

Everytime the cats turned the football over they ran just as hard to support their defence as they did when they run forward of the footy when a teammate has the pill. Our blokes refuse to find an oponent on the rebound and for some reason refuse to run with the ball and run to support when we are in possesion.

Our kick orientated gameplan is very easily counted by dropping numbers back. Until we start taking some risks teams will continue to block the space for Richo and co. Look how the cats created space with hard running by drawing defenders to the ball carrier so they couldnt zone off in front of Johnson, Mooney etc.

Our fitness guy(if he still has a job next year) needs to work them harder than he has before to see if these guys have the cahones to become half decent gut runners. Because until we find some more of them then we'll be just making up the numbers for awhile yet.

Newman played on Steve Johnson - terrible game. still struggles against blokes with footy smarts

Hello people a news flash for ya - Kane Johnson was moved onto the Kid Selwood after he'd smashed us and Tuck in the first 2 quarters. Johnson did a very good stopping job on him in the 2nd half.

Thought there were some very promising signs - more on that later

Saw this bloke about to jump of the roof of the Hickey stand after Tiv had kicked our 1st 2 goals - we yelled "don't do it xXx". Then like lightening he was back amongst the crowd - when Tiv got knocked out by that coward Corey  :rollin
