League seeks feedback on rule changes

August 9, 2007 - 2:49PM
The AFL wants feedback on three possible rule changes as part of its annual review of the game.
AFL operations manager Adrian Anderson said clubs would soon receive a discussion paper which looks at three key topics.
The League is looking at the number of interchanges made during a game, deliberately rushed behinds and kicking the ball backwards.
The question of whether the AFL should limit the number of interchanges will particularly cause some strong debate in the game.
The AFL has made a series of rule changes and different rule interpretations since a 2004 study raised concerns about the game becoming too stop-start.
This year's new hands in the back rule interpretation has been particularly controversial.
Anderson said there was certainly a legitimate argument for no rule changes.
The League also announced that Western Bulldogs ruckman Luke Darcy will take over from Nathan Buckley as the players representative on the AFL's laws of the game committee.
All feedback on the AFL's discussion paper will go to the committee before it makes any recommendations to the AFL Commission later this year.
Darcy will retire at the end of this season, meaning his spell on the committee might be short-lived.

Like the last 4 years worth of rule changes ::).
The only thing that should change is getting rid of that stupid hands in the back rule. A complete farce when legitimate speccies are paid as a free against as happened to Brett Burton last week. So much for making decisions clear cut for the umps ???.

Hasn't this guy destroyed the game enough? Ditch all the dud rules and go back to how it use to be.
