A real chance to upset the top team this week - Melbourne has so many injuries that there are very few AFL players in that team, only Garland, Bizzell, Weetra, Neville and rookies Hayes, Hughes and Neaves - 7 in total against our 10
-
No Pertersen? why would that be? Team balance? No Sylvester? Is Jarred injured?
Peterson along with Collins are named in the Coburg Ressies squad.
-
Jacko starting on the bench. Bully you may be on the money.
-
Caruso finally gets a goal for Coburg. We're getting smashed at the moment. Undisciplined too.
Coburg 1.2-8
Sandy 3.4-22
-
Paddy goals :gotigers
Coburg 2.4-16
Sandy 3.4-22
Goals: Paddy, N.Caruso
-
LOL these umps can be easily sucked in today. Softest 50 ever to Caruso who goals.
Scores level.
-
Hyde levels the scores again. 4.4
-
Quarter time
Coburg 4.4-28
Sandy 4.7-31
Goals: N.Caruso 2, Paddy, Hyde
Lucky to be so close but we had the 2-3 goal breeze :-\. Skill level has been shocking even taking into account the windy conditions. Ezra has brought his own footy. Sandy 85-55 in disposals and it's 7-2 in turnovers :scream.
Top disposal getters:
Hyde 7 - best so far for Coburg
Connors 6
Howat 5
Paddy 4
-
Paddy gets his second :gotigers
5.4 to 5.7
-
Our kick-ins have been absolutely shocking. We have conceded at least 3 goals from turnovers out of kick-ins. Hardly any Richmond players stepping up, Hyde and Howat doing ok but both far too one-sided.
-
We finally get it out of our backline ::) and hughes biombs one from 55m into the wind :clapping but Sandy gets one back straight away.
6.4 to 8.12
-
So you can jump into someone's back and it's holding the ball ::). What's the free kick count?! :-\
-
Couldn't agree more MT, we are getting pumped by the umpires, the bias towards Sandy is amazing.
Jackson apparently has a personal issue so is not taking place. Is on the bench though I believe.
-
They say that 5m Sandy kick was 15m but not that Howat pass just then. Yep jezza biased as hell ::)
Jacko may still play tomorrow though.
7.6 to 9.13
-
Back to back goals to Shelton and Krak :gotigers. 8.6 to 9.13. Cleve has been really good the last 5-10 minutes
-
Half time
Coburg 4.4 8.6-54
Sandy 4.7 9.13-67
Goals: N.Caruso 2, Paddy 2, Hyde, Hughes, Shelton, Krak
-
They say that 5m Sandy kick was 15m but not that Howat pass just then. Yep jezza biased as hell ::)
Jacko may still play tomorrow though.
7.6 to 9.13
they said jacko pulledd out of todays game because of "personal" issues
i think because "personally" he would prefer to play tomorrow and will lol
-
I really liked Clever's game that quarter. Really stood up at CHF after a quiet start.
Connors has been mixed. Got plenty of the ball but disposal has been mixed.
Paddy has done what he's had to do at FF from limited opportunities.
Agree Jezza about Hyde and Howat being too one-sided even at this lower level.
Krak, Cass and JON haven't done much.
Andy Collins needs to regig the kick-ins during half-time :help and a number of Ciburg players need to fix their boots so they don't slip over and go to ground all the time.
Turnovers 13-4
Clearances 4-10
Jacko to play tomorrow and only named to qualify for the VFL finals. Well doen Bully ;)
-
Paddy gets his 3rd :gotigers. Only 7 points down now.
-
Krak goals after good work from Caruso and Paddy. Karma for a ridiculously soft free to Sandy ::)
10.9 to 10.14
-
Sandy under pressure now :clapping. Whitey intercepts the kick-in and goals :gotigers. Coburg in front. 11.10 to 10.14
-
Krak's torp lands in Connors arms. Another Goal :gotigers. 82 to 74.
-
Connorsssssssssssssssssssssssssss :clapping. Mark of the year
Bugger he missed the goal :-\
-
Nat Caruso long goal :gotigers. All over them this quarter with the breeze. 89 -74
-
3/4 time
Coburg 4.4 8.6 13.11-89
Sandy 4.7 9.13 11.16-82
Goals: Paddy 3, N.Caruso 3, Krak 2, Hyde, Hughes, Shelton, White, Connors
-
Poor last 5 minutes to keep Sandy close but a much better quarter in terms of skill, decision making and team pressure. Moved the ball quickly with the breeze so our forward line was open. Connors is Mr highlight reel ;D.
Top disposal getters:
Connors 18
Hyde 17
Howat 13
Paddy 11
Krak 9
Turnovers still 14-10 but 1-7 that quarter due to Coburg's pressure.
-
Hydey goals :gotigers. 95 - 83
-
How was that not over the shoulder?! :-\
Connors goals anyway after a smart kick by Paddy :gotigers. 101 - 83
-
Whitey a great snap :gotigers. 107 - 83
-
Howat finishes off nicely a great team running goal :gotigers. 114 - 84
-
Tryajkovski goals. 120 - 90
-
Final Score
Coburg 4.4 8.6 13.11 18.13-121
Sandy 4.7 9.13 11.16 13.24-102
Goals: Paddy 3, N.Caruso 3, Krak 2, Hyde 2, White 2, Connors 2, Hughes, Howat, Shelton, Tryajkovski
-
A top team effort. Well coached Andy Collins :clapping.
Connors won the ABC's BOG. 16k, 5h, 5m, 2 goals. I think the coaches might tell him to forget about the speccies in the back half.
Paddy would have been close too to BOG.
Hyde and Howat were solid. Good by VFL standards.
Cleve had an excellent 2nd quarter but wasn't sighted much in the others. It sounded from the commentary that his workrate off the ball was very good.
JON shut out Poyas after he went onto him. He did his defensive job without getting much footy.
Cass, Whitey and Krak didn't have much influence on the game.
Coburg's fitness and team pressure told in the end. A really pleasing result even though the result didn't count for anything. Hung tough for the first half when they were struggling and completely out-played and we good enough to turn the game on its head after half-time.
-
Krak, Cass and JON haven't done much.
Jacko to play tomorrow and only named to qualify for the VFL finals. Well doen Bully ;)
krak, cass and jon were instrumental in the second half, and jon was superb in the last quarter
krak going in the middle in teh second half was a big factor in our win
also, connors was gr8, snuffed a few disposals up but in the second half was fantastic
so was paddy and hyde
jon did a gr8 job on poyas
so can jacko still qualify to play in finals even though he didnt play today and was named
if so, stupid rule, but we wil take it and smart thinkng by the coburg and rfc brainstrust

Best game I'd seen Nat Caruso play. That will consolidate his position for the Coburg seniors.
We were appalling in the first half. Good in the 2nd half.
-
Connors :thumbsup
what an ego, after one speccie decided to fly for everything :thumbsup
but seriously, excellent game, good response after being dropped.
Disposal was A+, save for a few, decision making was A+ and would have setup and kicked altogether 4-5 goals :clapping
keep up the good work dan

Coburg dents Zebras' run
Chris Walker | August 26, 2007 | The Age
COBURG recovered from an indifferent first half to upset premiership favourite Sandringham by 19 points at Trevor Barker Beach Oval yesterday in the final round of the VFL home-and-away season.
With nothing more than finals momentum to play for, the game was surprisingly hostile. A number of melees broke out as both teams tried to find the upper hand before they begin their tilt at a premiership.
Ezra Poyas started in dangerous fashion and Stefan Martin kicked three early goals as the Zebras' physicality appeared to trouble the visitors, hampering their disposal and forcing 12 first-half turnovers. Despite their first-half dominance, the home side was unable to put the sting on the scoreboard.
Although undermanned, the Tigers remained dogged and surprisingly found themselves only 13 points down at half-time.
Tigers coach Andy Collins regrouped his players at half-time and they returned to kick 10 second-half goals to win 18.13 (121) to 13.24 (102). The inaccurate Sandringham tired dramatically after three-quarter-time and Coburg took full advantage with its run and willingness to take risks.
"We really had a nothing-to-lose attitude," said Tiger captain Travis Ronaldson after the game.
Finishing in third position, Coburg's qualifying final will be against second-placed Geelong.
"Finals are what you play and we are really looking forward to taking them on next week," Ronaldson said.
Tiger Daniel Connors had 21 possessions, kicked two goals and took a spectacular grab during the third quarter.

From the Sunday Herald Sun
Howard Leigh 26 August 2007
The Zebras hope to regain several Melbourne players to help bolster their injury-ravaged list after yesterday's shock 19-point loss to Coburg at Trevor Barker Oval.
Richmond players Chris Hyde, Patrick Bowden and Daniel Connors and Coburg skipper Travis Ronaldson were behind the Tigers' second-half surge, which saw them turn around a 27-point half-time deficit.
Midfielder Hyde had 28 touches, Bowden booted three goals and set up several opportunities while Connors took one of the VFL marks of the year as well as kicking two goals.
Sandringham's defence was under pressure after stuff Chris Lamb limped off with a hamstring strain in the second quarter.
Coburg will play second-placed Geelong in the other qualifying final.

Match Report Vs Sandringham
coburgtigers.com.ay
The Burgers finished the home and away season in style this week by defeating top of the table Sandringham by 19 points on Saturday. After an even first half Coburg kicked away in the second booting ten goals to Sandringhams four. The win didn’t have any effect on the ladder with Sandy finishing on top, while Coburg finished in third spot with thirteen wins for the year. A fantastic effort considering the Burgers finished in eighth position last season. Coburg now play Geelong on Sunday in the 2nd Qualifying Final at Teac Oval, Port Melbourne.
The Burgers traveled down to Trevor Barker Beach Oval as the under dogs on Saturday in a game that was more of a yardstick to see how close Coburg are to the best side in the league. The result had no importance on shaping the ladder, as Sandy and Coburg were going to finish first and third respectively.
An inaccurate Sandringham took a three point lead at quarter time, after both sides kicked four first quarter goals. Sandy added another 5.6 during the second term, to Coburgs 4.4, again kicking inaccurately. Some credit should also go the Coburg defenders who pressured the Zebra forwards very well and forced them into making mistakes. Sandringhams gun full-forward Nick Saunter was solid up forward, but one of the main culprits to the Zebra’s inaccurate kicking as he finished with 3.6 from 10 attempts.
Daniel Connors made a welcome return to the Burgers after four games with Richmond in the past month, and was best on ground including two goals. Connors also added his second contender for mark of the year, after taking another screamer. Coburg hadn’t played badly but were lucky to be within thirteen points at the main change, as they had conceded eight more scoring shots.
The Burgers ran over the top of the Zebra’s in the second half, as they kicked five goals to two in both the third and fourth quarters. Sandringham had another shocking quarter in the last as their ten attempts on goal managed a measly 2.8.
Chris Hyde was a standout for the Burgers as he collected 28 possessions in the midfield. He was well supported from Paul Shelton and Daniel Connors as mentioned earlier, while Captain Travis Ronaldson was a standout in the ruck and gave his midfielders first use.
Patrick Bowden and Nat Caruso were also solid performers and both finished with three goals, while Andrew Krakouer provided some spark and kicked two goals. The Burgers face second place Geelong in week one of the finals on Sunday.

Reserves
The reserves game started a similar way to the seniors with Sandy missing early opportunities, and although having four less scoring shots a very accurate Coburg were up by sixteen points at the main break. The Burgers then found their usual form kicking seven and six goals respectively in the next half to the Zebra’s four. Better players for Coburg were Glen Carrick and Matthew Vasilevski, whilst Cathal Corr and Jono Mullins were also great kicking eight goals between them. The win kept Coburg in top spot, a great achievement considering they only won six games in total for the 2006 season.
During 2007 the Coburg reserves averaged a mammoth ‘126 points for’ per game and finished with a huge percentage of 180. They now have a week off and will play the winner of ‘Port Melbourne and Werribee’ next week for the chance to go straight into the Grand Final.

Coburg with it's fine Coach and young list looks like becoming the powerhouse of the VFL :thumbsup
