Title: Pettifer has no trade value - Walls
Post by: one-eyed on August 25, 2007, 01:09:41 PM
First of all good old Billy rang up 3aw just before 1pm and said there's a rumour going around that St Kilda are interested in Petts  ???. Billy asked what would we get for Petts and Walls said nothing. No other club would be interested in Pettifer.

A perfect reflection of Robert's knowledge of the game.

i think walls is right, petts is soft and pulls out or evades many contests, sure is a good kick for goal, but is made of butter along with his sisters like miss tivendale etc etc

petts market value is double that of tivendales

2 x 0 = 0

Petts was brought up on SEN last night as a player the Saints would want.  They need another goal sneak HF.  Obviously they'd prefer others ahead of him, but his name came up in the mix.
Put in a couple of good games in the last two and he might attract a bit of interest.
After Rodan this year, I wouldn't dismiss another club wanting him.

Pretty pointless rumour anyway. Pettifer is contracted for 2008.

Can't you trade a contracted player?

A HFF with 31 goals and averaging 15 possies per game for the year has no trade value whatsoever. Good one Wallsy  :whistle

Petts must have heard Walls' comments. His best game for the year. 26 possies, 12 marks, 3 tackles and 2 goals.

Yes Robert Walls very intelligent.
The man who on the Saturday night when we played the Eagles said the Eagles
can win the flag without Judd yet on the following Monday on On The Couch he unequivocally rescinded that thought. Perhaps tomorrow he will say Pettifer is the best Half Forward going around. Hey Robert even I can tell you the Saturday night lotto numbers on Sunday morning you awful fool and media tool.  :rollin :rollin

What do Princess Di and the Richmond Football Club have in common?

Both got stuffed by Walls.   :thumbsup

You know the silly season has started when Barry Brooks is offered in exchange for Pettifer on the Saints forum  :wallywink

Quote
Someone on here (a normally reliable source, I forget who it was) posted about a month ago that St Kilda were seriously looking at Pettifer ...

Basically a similar player to Milne, except 2 years younger and has never kicked 50 goals in a season.

Can win more of the footy than Milne and is a better tackler in the forwardline.

Not as dangerous around the packs.

Fourth round pick (#55 approx) + Barry Brooks

OR

Third round pick (#39 approx) ... would be slightly reluctant.

Small forwards don't win you matches. They add percentage

St Kilda seem pretty desperate to me to land a hff like Petts. Unfortunately for them, you gotta pay more sometimes to get what you want....in a poo draft like this its a 1st rounder for Petts. 30 to 40 goal a year HFF dont grow on trees.

A bit dumb of them comparing Petts to Milne. Not only does Petts play HFF not FP but at least Petts will still be playing in the AFL next year  ;).

Petts isn't going anywhere.

The more I think about this the more I simply can't believe someone that gets paid to comment on football could make such a statement.

More and more I am seeing the value of lead-up forwards given the modern style of fast footy. It is imperative to have guys that will work hard from deep forward right up to the wing to ensure the ball can be moved quickly and runners from the backline always have an option. With Pettifer and Richo we have two very good ones and it enables us to really move the ball quickly whilst still having very dangerous forwards deep. Guys like Hansen at the Eagles, O'Keefe at the Swans and Reiwoldt at the Saints are extremely important to their sides, as is Pettifer to ours.

Pettifer would definitely be one of those players whose value in a trade would be ok, but well below the value he actually gives to the side.
