Title: Tiigers interested in McGregor?
Post by: one-eyed on August 31, 2007, 03:30:36 PM
This was brought up at training today. The Herald-Sun say Richmond are interested in Crow Ken McGregor.

Thoughts?

Quote
As the Crows prepare to be more active than ever in the trade market, there is growing expectation Adelaide will:

LOSE out-of-contract rookie ruckman John Meesen, most likely to Carlton.

FIELD a frenzy of trade moves on 26-year-old key-position player Ken McGregor. Non-finalists Fremantle, Richmond and the Western Bulldogs are preparing to flag their interest.

The problem is even if we rated him and ignored injury, at 26 years of age Mcgregor will be 30 and on the wane by the time the rest of the side is peaking (a la Terry's 2011 window). It's not like getting a 22 year old Polak.

now that makes sense to me, i think some get caught up in the excitement of trade time.

so lets get rid of everyone over 25 so we are all prime for 2011

its not worth geting quality players  aged 24-26 because we have so many

it snot about excitement over trade period , its about getting some kiond of balance and quality players on teh list

don't mind mcgregor but wouldn't be willing to part with a draft pick unless late

Maybe PSD or meyer and schulz in a trade for mcgregor and crows first pick?

It's not about getting rid of everyone over 25 (although I'm sure you'd like to give a certain No. 32 the stuff X  ;)  ;D ) but not bringing those older players in only for them to be past their peak by the time the rest of the list is ready to hit its peak.

If McGregor ended up being the best available player in the PSD then you'd at least consider it as he'd come cheap. But more likely we would have to trade for him (give up pick(s)) and that would be sacrificing out long-term plan for the short-term.
