At the Playerlink function today Gary March went through some of things organised for next year's Club centenary in the VFL/AFL.
* The team will wear a special logo on their guernseys next year. This logo will also appear on all Club merchandise. The logo is a shield with a tiger's head on a black background with yellow sash with writing at the top and across a scroll down the bottom of the shield. It looks better than I described. A DVD was shown as part of the presentation which was very well done as usual. I'm surprised these DVDs aren't shown publicly. They get the passion for the club going :thumbsup.
* Auslab will sponsor everything related to the centenary. This looks to be a seperate major sponsor to those on our guernseys (AFG and ?)
* The Club will ask members to vote on their 10 most significant RFC moments. Things such as Mark of the centenary, goal of the centenary, favourite fan moment, etc....
* The Club has asked the AFL to play Melbourne in round 1 as our centenary game. We played the Dees in round 1, 1908. We will also be wearing a replica of the guernsey we wore in our first VFL match.
* The game will be delayed (semi-twilight) to coincide with major celebrations at Punt Road Oval before hand.
* We'll do something similar when we play Carlton. Both games will be our two celebration blockbusters.

Sounds like exciting stuff.
Lets hope it carries on to the field.
Interesting to see what type of setup they have at Punt road.
A mate has signed up for one of those centenary picks with the team.
I wanted too, but couldn't justify 1000 dollars to sit next to Johno :shh

l said Richmond were saving themselves for a perfect 2008 celebration of the centenery season 2008
was someone telling me in another thread that the 100 years was this year ;D
-
Think they may have shown some of that DVD on the scoreboard yesterday, but I couldn't hear what was said at the time.
-
Our 100th year in the VFL/AFL is this year Tigermonk but the 100th anniversary of our first game will be round 1, 2008.

If it was the one where they had a couple of former players from the Dyer era plus Flea talking about the Club while showing highlights of the Pies game from a couple of weeks ago then that was it.

?Do you still live in the 20th century?

mute button not working wank ;D

Richmond finished second last in 1908, won 6 lost 12. Bettered by Univeristy even. Back then second last was ninth (again). However, Geelong was 10th.
So to celebrate the centenary should we:
- improve a bit to come second last
- finish ninth, or
- finish higher than Geelong?

And beat the Pies by 5 points ;D
Will pass though on losing to Carlton by 15 goals :-X
-
Very much looking forward ot 2008 - the celebrations, the kids coming through, getting to play the Blues twice :pray
Bring on 2008 it's gonna be great ;D
Just on the DVD - I thinkthey used the song "we can be heroes" the Bowie song but not the Bowie version. It was the group that has Jakob Dylan in it - Wallflowers - is that them ???
-
yep the Wallflowers, i think their version is from a movie.
there are some good versions of this song around Iva Davies does a great version, sung it at Bathurst last year in honour of PB.

We've also asked for a midseason stand-alone blockbuster game against Carlton. This is what March was talking about before the Saints game.
The Tigers have also requested a stand-alone game at the MCG in late June or early July — the prospective date for the second mid-year break — to celebrate the club's centenary.
Richmond was hopeful of playing Carlton in that game and plans to wear its original guernsey as part of its centenary festivities.

Tigers reveal plans to honor 100 years of heroes
10:34 AM Tue 4 September, 2007
for richmondfc.com.au
Richmond unveiled its VFL/AFL Centenary plans at last Saturday’s final home-and-away round match against St Kilda at the MCG.
The Tigers’ CEO Steven Wright outlined some of the key plans for the 2008 Centenary year to assembled guests at the Club’s various pre-game functions.
A special Centenary logo has been designed and it will appear on the players’ guernseys and all Club merchandise throughout the year.
The main feature of the league Centenary year will be a huge weekend of celebrations (date to be announced in the next few weeks once the 2008 AFL fixture has been finalised).
On the Friday night, there will be a gala dinner, where the 10 defining moments in Richmond Football Club’s league football history will be announced.
These 10 defining moments will be chosen from a list of 100 golden moments (10 categories, with 10 nominations in each category) as voted on by Tiger supporters and a panel of experts.
On the Saturday, there will be an all-day party at Punt Road, before the action moves to the MCG, where the Tigers will play a traditional rival, wearing the same guernseys the players wore when they took the field for the first time in the then VFL competition, back in 1908.
This Centenary clash will be called “100G at the G’, with the Club aiming to fill the grandstands at the famous ground, which has been its home venue since 1965.
There’s a host of other activities planned (details to be released over the next few months) for what shapes as a memorable year of celebrations at Tigerland.
Wright also announced that Auslab, Australia’s leading provider of laboratory and diagnostic computer systems, will be Richmond’s Centenary partner.
Auslab is owned by PJA Solutions, whose Managing Director, Philip Allison, is a key member of the Tigers’ historical and museum committee.

they should remove the reference to 2008 at the end of next season and keep the logo for 2009 and onwards its a great logo which is a reflection of the old and current logo.

All they'd need to do is to replace with wording on the ribbon with "Est. 1885". Or for something different "On Victory We Thrive, Eat 'Em Alive". Liverpool have "You'll Never Walk Alone" on their logo.

Students testing artistic skills

Students from various schools across the region have been busy putting their artistic skills to the test in an effort to share in some great prizes.
Julie Maddocks, who is lending consultant for Taylored Homeloans, visited the schools on behalf of the sponsors of the Richmond Football Club, Australian Finance Group (AFG).
It is the Richmond Football Club's centenary year and as part of the celebrations, AFG has been conducting an art competition for school aged children across the region. The competition officially closes at 5pm today.
Entries in all categories have been encouraged in either paintings, sculpture or drawing. The subject encouraged children to depict in some way, the Tigers past 100 years.
Junior prizes include team jumper, tickets to the Richmond and Hawthorn clash and prizes for the school or kindergarten, while $2000 cash, team jumper, tickets to the round 20 clash and a 2009 family of four Richmond membership are up for grabs in the senior division.
As an added surprise, when Julie visited the schools in Stawell and Ararat to hand out entry forms for the competition, she also gave small footballs and Richmond centenary caps to students, which were well received.
For students who took time to enter the Richmond Football Club competition, winners will be announced on Friday, June 20.
