People's thoughts now of the Polak trade 12 months on?
-
a ripper
great trading.
-
Polak has made the trade worthwhile. Jack Riewoldt has a long long way to go for mine.
-
Think Riewoldt's shown a bit for a first year tall.
Rapt with the trade.
-
Polak has been great. An excellent trade indeed. So much for the early naysayers saying that he would spend most of his time at Coburg. He is thriving under the command of Wallace, and his commitment which was questioned before the season has been exceptional.
Still not sold on Riewoldt but its early days. Looks a bit slow and lumbering on the lead for his height atm.
LMAO at the commentators calling the Name Riewoldt in last weeks game without realising that there were two of them on the field! :stupid
-
good work miller :cheers
-
Personally, I was a critic of this trade and have seen nothing to change the mind.
Polak is yet to become the supposed primary Key Defender that he was recruited for.
Admittedly, Plough did say give him 12 months, so Polak can no longer play the Jason Cloke role in the back line for 2008, he must take the #1 forward.
IMO a big pre-season increasing strength, weight and pace is required to display that this trade was worthwhile.
-
I think your a hard man Darth.
Considering from where Polak has come fitness wise I thnk he had an outstanding year, he is probabaly going to pole in the top 5 BF.
Personally i believe Miller has been very good for our club however i do believe that he tries to be a bit to clever with his drafting in trying to un cover hidden diamonds so to speak.
Miller just pick the stuffen diamonds that are visible, believe me they will be good enough.
-
As a critic of the trade at the time (because we gave up our 3rd round pick as well) Polak has far exceeded my expectations. Useful to have someone who can play either forward, back or who can be thrown in the ruck. Agree with Darth on the point that he's yet to show he can hold down a KP defensive post on the opposition's best or second best forward but the strings to his bow have made the trade worthwhile to this stage IMO. Still too early to judge Jack against say Reid but he has shown signs he is a natural footballer.

It needs to be mentioned that we picked up Connors with that transferred pick (58), so that further enhances the Polak trade

very good pick up there GB, pretty much forgot about that :cheers
-
Polak has shown alot.
I think the deal also involved Medhurst going to Scumwood and Tarrant going to Freo.
Correct me if I am wrong forumites on this one.
If this was the case then I would say we have come out the winners from all this as Polak has been a shining light.
Jack has been ok but he is just a kid. Would have been more beneficial to him and to the club if Terry once he realised we were gone for the year and was going to play the kids more regularly he played him week in week out rather than dropping him to the 2's every few weeks.
-
jump on the jack bandwagon before it leaves the station :thumbsup
he is going to be a very good player

You're right HT. The pies also gained Reid from the pick 8 and Medhurst hasn't been too bad them so they got what they wanted along with pick 10 which they already had. Freo got absolutely shafted :lol.

Same here. Good get GB.

:shh Jack in three years will be a gun player :thumbsup
-
Great player and I still think he's still trying to find his right place in the team. And if thats right he's even better that I think. I'm a fan of his. So I'm on before the train has left the station.
-
Im not even at the station yet... i might take my chances and hop on the bandwagon when it gets out of the trainyards and goes afew stops :gotigers
-
I'm happy with Jack's progress. Classy polished footballer who oodles self-confidence :thumbsup. He knows he has to strength up and improve his fitness for AFL footy.
-
classy performance from Jack today :clapping
-
He's the sort of bloke you know will put in the effort and give his career every chance to succeed.
-
At this stage id prefer for us to have someone like Mitch Brown who got picked by West Coast ... but we got JR and we have to back him. I repeat, i feel he has a very long way to go and i doubt he can hold down a key forward role in a premiership side, feel hes a 3rd forward.
-
I class Russell Robertson as a third foward, if Jack can play like him on a consistant basis then i think he will be more than handy.

Upgraded version of Robbo IMO, taller and stronger mark

With all due respect. young Jack isn't anywhere near the level of Robertson at the moment and not even in the same hemisphere in terms of Robertsons best consistently.

obviously referring to the future there ramps ::)
-
Jack's 5cm taller than Robbo (weighs 6kg less) and he's not a speccie taker like Robbie is. Actually Connors has the Robbo speccie bug :thumbsup.
-
Jack and Reid both looked good today although Jack finished in front :thumbsup.
-
Reid was crap today when it counted
looks like another front runner which is ashame

A bit harsh. It's hard to be a forward when you're midfield is getting totally smashed.
As for Jack he must have heard Phil Cleary's half-time comments telling him he needed to stand-up. How's 4 goals Phil ;D
-
if supporters of others club aren't going to give any of our cubs slack then why the eff should I give them any. I rated Reid as a superb talent so I am not bagging for a lack of ability. When he actually got his hands on the ball he did some good things. But when the chips were down he went to water
-
Yeah but those supporters and worst still journos are morons. We've got a team half-full of cubs and they're comparing us to side with just 5 youngsters like the Hawks ::).
-
When you cop poo like this from other supporters you have no obligation to give their kids any slack
1. Hawthorn. Older teams, pushing for top-4
2. Carlton. Younger high talent list, pushing for top-8
3. Richmond. Older, low-talent list, no upside, bottom-4
4. Essendon. Older, low-talent list, no-upside, bottom-6.

That Parrot fellow is a real laugh isn't he :ROTFL :ROTFL :ROTFL :ROTFL :ROTFL :ROTFL :ROTFL :ROTFL
-
any guesses who he barracks for? :rollin
-
Ah Parrot. BF's Carlton troll :stupid
-
Yeah all it takes is a positive start to the season
and those journos will be saying
How hard Terry Wallace has worked.
How much the kids have developed.
How the faith in youth has reaped rewards.
Of course the media will try to cash in on this and try and tell you I told you so
but I hope Terry does this when it occurs.
Teach the team on an us against them mentality
and have Terry use his savviness to get up journos noses and threaten that he won't
let them in our rooms or instruct our players and staff to not talk to certain journos.
Much in the same way he threatened a journo in his first year at the Dogs who wrote an article in the paper Terry did not appreciate.
To endorse our argument over journos who don't know that much.
After Round 22 who had picked more winners than the majority of the journos.
I know I had.
Good for nothing tryhard know it alls. :whistle :whistle :whistle
