Title: Which Tiger most surprised you?
Post by: one-eyed on September 07, 2007, 01:01:26 PM
Which Tiger surprised you the most with what he did this year?

It could be a youngster who progressed quickly or someone who you thought was a dud yet performed well.

Edwards is one for mine. Watching preseason training I thought Jack and Connors would play seniors in their first year but for Shane to play 16 games and show off his class and footy nouse without being overawed or intimidated out there was a fantastic effort. He was unlucky not to get a rising star nomination.

Foley - I didn't know the little bugger was so quick!!

It is also the first time in a long time that we have opposition supporters drooling over one of our youngsters.

Two biggest surprises this year:
1. McGuane
2. Jackson

Especially McGuane. I wouldn't have kept him on our list at the end of 07. I was wrong.

Yes McGuane also Gordon. I wasn't expecting much from him, and wouldn't have been surprised if he was delisted along with Limbach last season.

Jake King.
When he was rookied I thought it was almost a PR stunt for our VFL affiliate. How wrong was I!  :-[ Just love watching him burst out of the backline.

Edwards (absolutely love him), didn't expect him to come on so quick.  Went to Casey Fields before the season started, and knew then, with just the way he moved and his quick hands and mind, that he will become a very good player.

King.  He has really surprised me.  I love him.  He has easily surpassed Raines.  Is so tough, runs hard and fast and has a beautiful flat long kick out of defence that usually hits a leading player on the chest.  Great find.

Foley's obvious form has been unbelievable.  Mentions also to Thursty & McGuane.

GO TIGES!!!

Rainsey for the wrong reasons.

Players like Edwards not really a great surprise, about time we got  someone like this.
Allways thought mcGaune had something to offer.
Definatly Foley - he is up there with the best. Now to follow it up.

Connors for mine - starting to get a few kids with atitude - Something we have lacked over the years.
That can play football aswell mind you.

edwards, coming into the season i saw him as a player who would take a while to develop, but he has been a massive suprise

but with connors I wasn't suprised, always knew he had star qualities

After the Geelong debacle McGuane was 1 of those players I thought was just not good enough. How wrong was I.

Foley an AAA Grade midfielder.

Shane Edwards a player with polish and a touch of class.

Adam Pattison may not have the skill and polish of others but has a heart that is huge and the burden he carried all season as a lone ruckman has fast tracked  learned lessons that may have taken many more years to achieve. Pure courage.

patto will be a real good player, what he lacks in talent he makes up with his fantastic work ethic and team-orientated style of play. Simmo out for the year basically will be looked back as being brilliant for Pattos development

at the start of the year he looked like an iffy sort of player at best but now he is really blossoming  :clapping

Ditto neglected to mention the Angry Little Ant.
Yeah a great acquisition and has a bit of skill and poise off half back as well amongst
some of the other positive attributes that 2JD has mentioned. :thumbsup
Was mentally going through all the numbers in numerical order and stopped at Cam Howat in trying to formulate a post in this thread. Doh  :lol

1/ McGuane - having seen alot of Luke from when he first came to Melb and started in the Coburg ressies to see him now - is a credit to the kid. I thought this year he showed that with a bit more size will be a very good defender for us for the next decade. His improvement this year has been outstanding

2/ Pattison - reckon this season with everything he was left to do will be the makings of Patto

3/ Thursfield - I just thought if we could get a few games out of Will after that horror knee injury that would be a good stepping stone for 2008 but I reckon his comeback this years has been a deadset bonus for our Club

4/ Edwards & Connors - skills and footballers enough said

5/ Gus Graham - he is similar to Luke. If you said to me 12 months ago this kid would play in the AFL in 2008 - I would have said "yeah right, have another drink". But the improvement in Gus has been amazing. Yep he has long way to go but there is light at the end of that tunnel too

Foley - Well done lad.

Edwards - I will admit I had a feeling about this boy. Lets hope he hasn't peaked!  ;D More solid improvement next year please, work on that kicking you could be an absolute champion.

Connors - Was worried about some of the things I heard about him early on, has shown my fears to unfounded. Excellent skills, obvious drafting mistake. :lol Same as Edwards, more solid improvement next year please.

Same here. To come from VFL to do what he has done is an incredible effort  :clapping.
