St Kilda is yet to make a fresh offer for key defender Matt Maguire, who is out of contract. Maguire's management has received enquiries from rival clubs.
Richmond is in the box seat to recruit its choice of the best out-of-contract player as the Tigers have the first selection in the pre-season draft in December.

Any interest in Maguire?
-
No.
We have enough broken legged men to worry about and when they play their "Key Defender" on a 1st year Jack Riewoldt and doesn't tear him to shreds it says something about where Goose is at.
No worth the trouble.
-
Greg Denham said this morning that 5 clubs are after Maguire. Presumably we are one of them.
It could be a good get if we got him cheap in the PSD as 2008 will be Maguire's second year after breaking his leg and he would have a full-season unlike last year. However, like you tigersalive, do we want a 3rd player on our list coming back from a broken leg :-\.
-
pre leg injury yes, now only some faint interest
-
Perfect PSD candidate

Perfect PSD candidate
certainly

Ch 9 news tonight said we and Hawthorn are chasing Maguire. If a deal can't be met then us and Carlton of course have the prime PSD positions.
-
we are chasing everyone, apparently.
-
The Age says we are interested in Matt Maguire....
Connors also looking after the affairs of Maguire, and captain Luke Ball among others at St Kilda, protracted negotiations between the Saints and their centre half-back have stalled.
Connors declined to comment other than to confirm that there have been no recent dealings over Maguire. Richmond and at least one other club are understood to have expressed interest in the 23-year-old, who made an unexpectedly swift comeback this year from a badly broken leg he suffered in round 18 of the 2006 season.

Can he still play on the gorillas?
If so we should chase him like there's no tomorrow.
-
He was a bit slow before he broke the leg.
Looked even slower in his return games this year.
And clumsy.
Wouldnt be trading for him but would an ok PSD pick.
-
Be more than happy to pick him up in the PSD. Young, proven key defender, just what we need. He obviously came back too quickly and suffered as a result, with a full preseason into him he'll be a very good player again.
-

not everyone rogerd3
1 -2 good ones

Birdies are tellin' me (no names - no pack drill) that Mr Miller has been busy for up to eight weeks in the chase for a big name player who is now out of contract (not Judd) ..
Put it this way, I don't think we'll be picking up an Ackland-McLaren-Knobel quality out-of-contracted player. :santa

Interesting you are posting this specifically in the Maguire thread rather than the PSD thread.
Subtle hint there perhaps Bateman? :whistle
-
I'd be a little disappointed if the 'big name' player was Matt Maguire.
Maybe 'big name' means something different to me than others though...
-
i would imagine that we have chatted with the so-called player and he is obviously wanting to come to RFC, gotta love that Colgate ring of confidence that GM has.

Sorry mr ignorant is back, what does the G stand for you're not talking about B - NFI ???
-
problem with all these rumours is that they really dont help footy club. the expectations get raised and people (yes even me lol) get there hopes up. Lets just all wait and see what happens. If nothing happens then people will be disappointed.

apparently maguire was on the radio stating he would be staying @linton street.

Yep. On Saintsational it says he rang in from Thailand where he is on holidays. Wanted to go away and relax on holidays first and work out the final points of his contract when he's back next week.

he might not like the finer details of his contract on arriving back.

That's true especially with Riewoldt and Dal Santo both just recently re-signing. Although with Gehrig retiring you wouldn't think the Saints would have salary cap pressure. All will be revealed in the next 3 weeks.

Big name...
It'll probably end up being someone like Josh Fraser. :banghead

Because we need another injured ruckman who can't play when you need him and basically does nothing when he does :help.

channel 7 said matty mguire signed a new 2 yr deal with the saints today

Let's hope we still do have a big name target otherwise this trade/PSD period could all be a non-event for us. A fringe player like Mitch Morton will hardly get all of us excited.
-
there goes 1 decent target. this could turn out to be one big fiasco.
-
St Kilda defender Matt Maguire has been struck down by stress fractures in his left foot again.
Stress fractures are a risk for players returning from serious leg breaks.
Richmond's Nathan Brown suffered a long battle with soreness after surgery on a broken leg.

Browny would know what Maguire is going through. Let's hope Browny gets through this preseason and 2008 without any further issues with his leg :pray.
-
my gut feeling is that browny has recovered fully now and is over all the complications
full steam ahead

Touchwood you're right about Browny X :thumbsup. Playing the last 11 games straight without another flare up and getting back close to his old form was a good sign.
-
Bad luck for Goose. :-\
Lucky for us we didn't trade for him.

Bad luck for Goose. :-\

Yeah unlucky for Goose. Browny has had 2 and half years since his leg injury.
Goose broke his in August 2006. Unfortunantely with Goose's injury history he might take a while yet before he is 100% right.
