Title: 10 gone in clean out - what do you think?
Post by: one-eyed on November 01, 2007, 04:41:27 AM
How do you rate our post-season clean out with 10 gone?

Out:
Darren Gaspar (retired)
Trent Knobel (retired)
Kent Kingsley (retired)
Ray Hall (retired)
Andrew Krakouer (delisted)
Brent Hartigan (delisted)
Patrick Bowden (delisted)
Carl Peterson (delisted)
Tas Clingan (delisted rookie)
Cameron Howat (delisted rookie)

The coaching staff are in the best position to make the judgment. As far as I can tell they've done their job well with the above decisions.

Close to 1/4 of the list. Realistically you can't really ask for more without completely destabilising the club. No doubt there are some on the list that people may have liked to go. Their time will come.

Well in reality the guys we delisted didn't contribute much to a team that finished 16th.

We basically have the same 22-25 that won 3 1/2 games, but the positive is that they're young and will improve.

I am happy with all the delistings, Krakouer, Bowden and Hartigan at their age have to be playing consistent seniors football, or they're a waste.

By that logic, Schulz, Meyer, Hyde and Moore will be in the gun next year unless they start improving.

Peterson was a shame, but hey he was a late pick.

He has to be selected first with one of our picks in the rookie draft.

With your foresight you should have told us we were headed for the spoon this year, or perhaps that Troy would get injured.

not enough ... should of added Hyde, Moore and Tivendale !!!

Cass has now been on the list for about 3 years now without a match yet ...

i think he was close to being delisted ... though i know he has had injury ... but what about Peterson ???

Agree and I see it as a positive too. We haven't lost anyone of value and we can now add quite a few newbies to improve our list and put pressure on the 22-25 places as well as adding depth over time.

25% of the list is now gone. Sure many of them did not get a gong week in and week out on a regular basis but as MT said here's hoping the recruiters can at least get us some decent picks to now put pressure on those 25 or so players that warrant selection on a weekly basis. We need more depth that has been our biggest lack of as indicated with last seasons results.

MT your right, not many of those players played many games, some not all.
If we have ten new players and they don make much impact, guess what, back to back spoons I am afraid.

I'm satisfied numerically.  10 seems about right - though it's really only 8 given that we've promoted a couple of rookies.  It does show how quickly fortunes can change - if you'd said that Pat Bowden would be delisted 12 months ago you would have been shot down.

So you're saying Simmo will hardly play, Browny will miss the first half the year and Cogs will do his knee again  :whistle.

A team with a red sash may beat up to the spoon next year  ;).

Hey hold on a minute, dont make excuses through injury.
ALL TEAMS have injury, dont expect to have an injury free year, your kidding yourselves if you do,.

The club had to do what they had to do.  They have off loaded, the old, the players that cannot focus, and the one sided players with skill issues.  Has Terry hit the panic button and knows he is staring defeat in the eyes, with his contract coming to a close?  The answer to this question lies on the progress of JON, Hughes, Reiwoldt, Schulz next year, just to name a few.

Anyway, I've been a long time reader and would like to say welcome to everyone.

Thanks for having me on board. :gotigers

True but our lack of depth means those 3 injuries and especially to Simmo and Browny hurt us badly. If both play the majority of next year then we won't win the spoon. I'll stick to backing a R&B spoon in 2008.

Welcome 3121
The point is, we had to change those players over.  You're right, his fate is in the hands of those players.  Shame, his future will come down to this.  With virtually no recruitment department, some of our choices have left a lot to be desired.  Well so far.  Hopefully a couple of those players will come good and restore the faith in people.
