Sorry not sure if this is the right board to put this on. Move it if it's in the wrong place and I'll take notice for next time.
Actually I just had a bit of a look around and I think it should be on the "View from the Outer" board. Apologies.

BREAKING NEWS: RELUCTANT Geelong forward Nathan Ablett yesterday dropped a pre-season bombshell by informing the Cats he had retired just three years into a promising football career.
The Cats spent yesterday convincing him to instead take several weeks to clear his head, before coming back to them with a decision in late December.
The 21-year-old had played a key role in Geelong's drought-breaking premiership win just nine weeks ago but has told the club he has no interest in playing on.
Nathan, the youngest of the Ablett brothers, has lived with his father in Jan Juc and had only this year confirmed his standing as an outstanding attacking talent.
But while older brother Gary is seen as a future captain, Nathan shied away from the limelight and had to be repeatedly convinced by the club he should attempt an AFL career.
Geelong's premiership season was his breakout year, the quietly-spoken full forward playing 21 games and kicked 34 goals, including three in the club's Grand Final win over Port Adelaide.
It was felt the win would provide the former Modewarre bush footballer with the confidence he would need to blossom into a key attacking weapon for the Cats.
His decision comes 48 hours after his father came clean about his past drug addiction and the circumstances surrounding the death of young fan Alisha Horan in 2000.

And X wins quote of the month.

Just seems a bit weird wanting out right now. :whistle
Nevertheless if he makes a comeback and follows it in his dads footsteps the next 4 years after his comeback should be horrific for our defense when we play Geelong.

Yes the topic...
Let me see Nathan got special treatment when he was first drafted and seems is still getting special treatment.
::) ::) :whistle
Sorry Geelong you have no one to blame but yourself
-
overrated hack living off his surname, to think he could even rate a mention on the front page of a newspaper. madness :banghead
-
He'll probably return anyway like Tarrant did at the Pies when he was younger.
-
Going by 3aw before noon, an Adelaide radio station might have some answering to do for letting this rumour about Nathan Ablett go to air that's thankfully rubbish ::)

honestly ... he doesn't want to play ... he never wanted to play AFL ... his brother handles the pressure beautifully ... but not him ... and they (Media) makes a "big deal" about it ... let him go ... who really knows what is happening ... could be something very serious ... don't want him having depression like Gary Senior ... it is very bad ...
-
SEN were saying Ablett will make an announcement this week and even as early as this arvo. They said the word is he's going to retire for good yet Geelong will keep him on their list.
-
Ablett said in the press conference he's quitting AFL as he lacks the passion and commitment to play at the highest level. It's not a permanent retirement as it's just for 2008 for the moment and he's left the door open to return and even play VFL later this year.
-
No big loss to Geelong IMO. He can be a handy player sometimes but you can see that he doesnt have the drive to go the next step and be a gun.
Probably has the talent which is a shame.

To be honest - I don't give a rats.
The kid never really wanted to play, hence all the special treatment he received during his time.
Look at his press conference today it seemed like a cast of thousands. Actually the only person not there seemed to be Andy D ::)
Nath reckons he may play some VFL down the track - how thoughtful :chuck
Geeeelong is going to keep him on their list - whoa like they have a choice :chuck

I am totally enjoying WPs' attitude of late!!

I couldn't care one bit about this fella. As it has been said he is a sook. He's still tied to his munmmies apron strings.
I have always said that he was and will never be an AFL player at best he is only good enough for the VFL.
So now he can go and play with daddy and see if they all get together with Ben Cousins, as all three are a waste of space.

With Tom Hawkins waiting in the wings Geelong won't miss him.
