As president Gary March announced a $1.031 million profit, he unveiled the club's grand vision for 2010.
March said the club was determined to continue its Punt Rd Oval revamp, become debt free, continue declaring $1 million profits, and gain 35,000 members within three seasons.
He said the club aimed to become a consistent top-four presence, as well as win Richmond's 11th premiership within that timeframe.

A premiership in the next 3 years? I'm yet to be convinced but I suppose you have to aim high. With what the other clubs have been saying we must be going to have joint premiers for the next few years. lol.
I think consistent finals contender as the minimum is more realistic with consistent top 4 being the realistic aim. Having said that, if you can make the top 4 then you should be able to win the whole bloody thing I suppose.
35,000 members seems achievable and we are already making $1m profits so, with good management you would think the profits could continue. At least there wasn't the BS that seems to be floating around some other clubs.

2010 could be a flat spot year if you look at our list.
2004 draftees will be 23-24, but we could have lost Richo, Browny, K. Johnson, Bowden and Simmonds by then.
I think 2011 is when we explode. Connors, Edwards, Cotchin and co. will be coming up towards 50 games through the year (if all goes well with injuries). Most players drafted 2004 upwards, are on their way to or over 100 games.
It all hinges on player development :pray

Surely they've misquoted March about a flag by 2010 ???. Sounds like he meant from 2010 we'll be a consistent top 4 side. At least the 35k for membership is realistic unlike the pie in the sky stuff from other clubs. One other thing we should be aiming for by then is to eliminate our debt.

Brown missed alot of footballt he last 3 years. As a forward pocket/undersize one out FF we might be able to keep him for a few more years yet. If we is in good form he is a much superior footballer to the major of our best. Richo should ideally be turned into a Lynch (Brissie) type role IMO. He is a major weapon, eve if he is flawed. A 23 year old Deledio, 21 year old Cotchin, 24 year old Tambling + Foley midfeild would benifit from having Richo to aim for deep with Brownie at his feet.
Simmonds will be a big lose, ruckman can't go on forever. Perhaps 40% ruckman, 60% 3rd forward. Pattison really needs to come good for list-wise.

Everitt is 33 going on 34.
Jeff White is 30 going on 31.
Brogan is 29 like Simmo
Lade is 31 going on 32.
If Simmo can get back to near his best then he'll still have a few years left in him.

What i saw of the presentation regarding the plan by 2010 was
Yes MT - the plan to be debt free by 2010 with cash assets of I think it was $3million or over $3mil. They will do this by procuring more land. They've invested in land, built houses and then the sell at a profit. The one they built down at Point Cook is a good example. The BSheet says the Club has land, this is includes the now home down at Point Cook that's been sold & settled in Nov. the profit from that sale will goe into the 2008 revenues. They did give the figure can't remember it exactly but know it was more than $150k
They are looking at other areas of business that are non-football that will generate $$$ for them
Yes said consitent top 4 contender.
35k members
He said challenging for a flag in 2010
He said that ultimatley we are about winning our 11th premiership. Let's be honest here - one would hope that what a footy club was about
I have to say every club talks about their ultimate goal being winning a flag
Did he guarantee it - absolutely not, would he like to see it absolutely - wouldn't we all
:gotigers

more realistic than Hawthorn's plans ;D

To do this properly (from the perspective of RFC) and make it really worthwhile the club needs to be doing 12 to 15 of these developments at least a year.

Cheers WP. Good to hear.
How cheaply we can buy the land and build the properties would determine how often we can do this per year. Probably for around every $1 you outlay you get back at least $2? on the city fringes (assuming land value of $100-150k). 12-15 times per year would score us a profit of around $2m.

Bump.
A year ago this was March's vision. It looks like we could reach the 35k membership target :thumbsup.

Seems that March knew more than TW....lots of people prefer to see this pie in the sky type quote, ie: premiership by 2010 than TW's more realistic evaluation of where we were at, and unfortunately for us, these are the people that the media love to quote lol

Firstly we had 39,000 members in total last year so 35.000 ticketed with 43,000 is total is the aim.
I mean there are so many differently priced and differently constructed memberships across the AFL now that all that matter is does someone pay. Our unticketeds are paying as much as many so called "real" members across the city so let's call a spade a spade.....if you pay you are a member.
I think that flags either happen of they don't but top 4 CAN be planned for. Geelong, the best team in the game, were deprived of the flag last year but you can bet your house they will be top 4 this year again.
I would hope to see us do the following:
1. Qualify for finals regularly.
2. Outsell Carlton and Essendon in memberships. ( remember Essendon tell porkies and are only a couple of thousand ahead of us as it is)
3. Attract an average of 50,000 to our 11 homers at least 9 of which should be at the "G" and will be if we attract the crowds.
4. Establish R! V Carlton and Dreamtime V Essendon as genuine 75,000 blockbusters.

good points Tio, we need to cash in on our blockbusters to make up for any shortfalls in sponsorship rev...Our draw will help with Home fixtures against the Big sides :thumbsup
