Title: Simmo on 3aw
Post by: one-eyed on January 24, 2008, 09:08:21 PM
Simmo was on 3aw tonight around 7.20pm

* NAB Cup Feb 15. So not long to go. We're starting to ramp it up at training and do match simulation.

* Dwayne Russell asked if anyone has vomited because of gut running at training? Simmo mentioned at the Camp they did up in the Dandenongs before Christmas, one of our young guys from WA collapsed on one of the hill runs. Simmo said it was quite funny but he wasn't laughing too hard as that hill was bloody tough.

* Kids coming out of the U18's are fitter and more professional than in his time when he was young. No more beers after Tuesday night training.

* Simmo was asked how much running he does during a game as a ruckman? Simmo said about 15-16 km. Even at training in an hour he can do 8km broken down in various speeds.

* Last year was very disappointing with the ankle and then blood clot after such a good 2006. Simmo said he's worked on a few things over preseason to improve himself and he's currently fit and well

* Round 1 - who gets Judd? Sugar usually gets the minding jobs as he's good at it but there's some of the younger guys putting their hand up like Jacko.

* Preseason training has been different this year. Last year we were ready to go by December. It's been more modified this year and that's shown by everyone being healthy unlike last year. Cogs, Browny and himself are training well. At this stage we're having 4 week blocks then tapering off as we do during the season and it's all monitored by our fitness and conditioning guys.

* Mentioned the Tiger taskforce night is next Friday at 5pm at the Zoo. All proceeds going to saving the mighty magnificant creature with only 400-500 Sumatran Tigers left in the wild. It'll be a great night.

That must have been either Rance or Gourdis.

I suspect Gourdis since he's been doing really badly on the Tan runs.

yep and his lack of stamina is the big reason why he was not picked up in the draft earlier

So much for this kid being an athlete. ::)
How can you have a lack of stamina at 18yrs old?

Fitness is something you can build though. At least you'd hope you could..

I couldn't run the Tan when I was 16 and I used to play a fair bit of sport (school kept telling me to do it in PE pricks. lol). If it was him who collapsed at least he appears to be pushing himself, hopefully that's a sign of a good attitude.

To play AFL seniors most kids lack stamina.  Look no further than Richmond's 2007 season for proof of that. :'(
