Glenn Lovett from Champion Data/AFL prospectus was just on SEN talking about our strengths and weaknesses:
* We averaged 13 goals per game last year (10th best)
* Our forward line is surprisingly equal 1st. When you take into account depth we have the potential for our forward line to score heavily with Richo, Browny, Petts, Lids, Polak, Morton, Jack, Schulz, etc. We were 4th in marks inside 50.
* The problem is Richmond's midfield which is the major worry and it's starving the forward line as we had the least inside 50s. The problem is depth in midfield. Average quality rating (that is with no injures) we are rated last with only Foley and Tuck and no depth. They can't classify Cogs as the game has changed in the last 18 months and they don't know how he'll go.
* Foley - No 1 in AFL in contested possies, centre clearances and bounces.
* Not many contested possies in our games thanks to our turnovers. Numbers behind the ball, run it up, turn it over and then the opposition hits us on the counter.
* We have a lot of above averager players but we also have the equal most below average. Not much in between. Need those classed as below average to step up.
* Prediction for 2008: 8-9 wins.

Those stats show we are getting it right in some areas which is encouraging but it is pretty obvious where the work need to be done. Seems we are either really good or completely hopeless. If we can get the completely hopeless to average then we will no longer be easy beats. If we can get the completely hopeless to good then we may even be successful.

the engine room aint got no engine or only running on 4 cylinders at best.

Trying to explain engine room (mid field) to a european mate learning the game i used the following analogy.
Geelong were as of the end of last season a smooth running Porsche or Ferrari. all parts working in sync and tight producing maximum performance and results.
Adelaide/ST Kilda. more like a XR8/HSV, Solid performance with a decent heart but not quite up to matching the Porsche or Ferrari.
Richmond. Well what can i say? A 1970's Ford Escort with a million K's on the clock. Still chugging along but in need of some serious work to it.
Poor guy didnt know if he should laugh cry or get me commited.
Sounds like a Richmond supporter to me.

Last year we were more like an East German Trabant. Would fall apart and pack it in before we even got going :P.
Seriously though last year we were smashed in the hitouts and even though Foley did well reading the opposition ruckman we were always giving the opposition first use of the footy more often than not out of the centre. That meant, as the guy from Champion Data said, us playing more players behind the ball and limiting our attacking options.

Another car that comes to mind MT, a Lada Samara!! :lol IIRC they had a rope for a fan belt. :help

i would have thought last year we were more like any f1 car Mark Webber drives. Can't go the distance :P :rollin

I liken us more to the new prototype Ferrari engine; sounds good on the dyno but as yet untested on the track. When the bodyshop guys have finished with their new shell design and both parts come together, then lookout. Will require a bit of testing and tuning as with all new models but worth the wait!

From wikipedia: One notorious feature of early Samaras was the 'disco-lights' problem caused by poor electricals. The Samara driver had to be aware that when the brakes were applied, it was quite likely that the hazard and reversing lights would come on and not the brake lights.
