Scores at 1/4 time.

Coburg   5.3-33
Geelong  1.4-10

I know Whitey, Collard and Collins are definitely playing. I presume Polo and Hughes are as well.

Don't know Magic. I presume so. Scores off BF Geelong board. We're still well in front apparently.

Cheers 1965. At least something positive coming out of the Burgers albeit it's just a practice match.

After the way Geelong pumped Coburg in the GF last year, how can you make anything of pre-season form  ???

True Moi. You can't trust preseason results. In saying that I guess Coburg should be stronger this year with improvement and additions of our cubs whereby Geelong's VFL side may come back to the field with players leaving and being drafted by other AFL clubs.

Would be due to the fact that it was pretty much a Richmond team compared to the Coburg team from the Grand Final.

There was no limit to amount of Richmond players in the team yesterday.

compliments of Rosyland and "dconnerstheman"...

It was good to see that the top 6 possession winners for Coburg were all Richmond listed players.  Note that quarters were only 20 mins no time on and the last quarter saw the last 4 minutes go by waiting for a stretcher.  Coburg won by about 40 odd points.

Howat - 33 (13 in first quarter)
Coughlan - 25
White - 22
Polo - 20
Schulz - 19
Collins - 19

Other listed players:

Thursfield - 14
Hughes - 10
Putt - 9
Collard - 8 (2 goals)
Gourdis - 8
Rance - 7 (injured ankle)

Good to see Cogs get through the game and collect a few possessions. Will be good for his confidence. Small return for Collard is disappointing. Also in that thread mentioned Rance hurt his ankle. Bummer.  :-[

Thanks again dconnerstheman

I was there.  Howat was probably the best player on the day, whilst Coughlan had most of his stats with handpasses but was a healthy contibutor.  Probably wont be too far off.
Collard kicked 2 in the first quarter but hardly touched it after that.  Putt & Gourdis seem a long way off, whilst Rance injured his ankle in the second quarter and went home on crutches.
Polo was OK with his 20 but could do more, Thursty held his ground down back and should be back asap, and Collins showed some glimpes with his 20 or so possessions in which must be his first hit out in over a year.  He still seems a long way given his body size (needs a lot of time in the gym).
Hughes was almost non-existent.
I must say that the Geelong VFL team didnt have any stars at all.  It must have been mainly made up of local area players.

Geez another ankle injury  :banghead. Rance would've been close to playing for Richmond too in the NAB challenge practice games  :-\.

Good news about Cogs.  Will boost his confidence in his knee standing up. However when Howat is getting 33 possies it shows the huge gap between VFL and AFL level. The test for Cogs isn't footy smarts but whether he can still play in the speed-fest that is AFL.

Polo, Sarge and Cleve should've played Friday night if they were fit.

its called holding back the players MT & killing thier confidence
Cleve Hughes is a proven longkicking goalscorer
Shultz well you can class him in the same boat but wanting to walk away from his team mates pre draft was pathetic on his behalf
& Coughlan well why he didnot play on Friday night instead of that stuffwit JON l dont know
lets hope friday night is the last we ever see of JON in the 1st team cause his truely pathetic footballer at Victorian level

Well it must be for things we don't see such as Miller alluding to Cleve having "a lot of growing up to do" because I would've thought 4 goals in last intra-club game would earn you a place in the side.

Cogs wasn't right to go. Needs to get some more match fitness at Coburg.

I think Hughes got 3 of his 4 goals on gourdis so it needs to be put into perspective..

Sorry WP I was talking about the intra-club game  :thumbsup.

That's true HB but I'm not sure what else he was meant to do. Kick 8 in a quarter  ???. You can only play against the opponent you're on and Cleve made use of Gourdis' inexperience. Cleve also played well in the first scratch match so there was form to warrant a senior game IMO. I'm just perplexed over what the selection committee is doing with Cleve. It's not like we have a overabundance of tall marking forwards to kick to. Like last year when Cleve kicked 3 goals in consecutive weeks to be our forward with the best return in those games and then one poor game later he's out of the side. Sure he should have worked hard to force his way back into the side instead of ending up in the Coburg ressies but dropping him like that is hardly showing faith in a kid. You don't see Mark Williams at Port drop Westhoff after one bad game.

You must be looking at a different player to me. Hughes has got plenty to prove.

That fair enough though i still don't mind us making him work harder to get a game , though if he does get in it would be crappy to see him dropped after one poor game again..

That's fair enough too HB. Cleve should have worked harder at Coburg and not have fallen away as badly as he did.

Pic 2 - left hand side is Matty White. Ruckman is big Beau whos surname escapes me. Cogs looks shielded behind the ruckman

Pic 3 - that looks like Cleve in the distance

A week and a bit late but there's a report by Rawlings on the Coburg vs Geelong game in EOTT.

http://210.50.4.102/rfc/

Some snippets:
Schulz was B.O.G. - 19 possessions, 9 marks.

Howat 33 possies and he was commended on his disposal both by hand and foot.

Collins had 19 possies in just over 50% game time.

Rance is very professional with his recovery from ankle injury.

Gourdis has genuine power but now needs to learn how to use it. On a major educational program.
