Title: Coming last again could again mean no No.1 draft pick
Post by: one-eyed on February 19, 2008, 02:48:22 AM
Caro and the Age reckon the new Gold Coast team could start up next year in the QAFL and is likely to be given priority draft selections of the first two or three draft picks each year for the first few years of their existence which would mean this year's draft included - , [url=http://www.realfooty.com.au/news/news/gold-coast-could-debut-in-2009/2008/02/18/1203190740411.html]Link 2 (http://www.realfooty.com.au/news/news/expansion-the-details/2008/02/18/1203190740417.html?page=stuff 1[/url).

Hopefully our fortunes turn around and we won't have to worry about it but imagine again missing out on the first pick despite coming last  :P.

That'd be right.

Does the AFL realise that if Richmond becomes an on-field powerhouse again, we'll rival Collingwood for pulling the largest crowds.

We'll make you $$$ Demetriou.

IMHO the comp's fine at the moment, no need to go mess up a formula that's working. If Demetriou needs something to occupy his time he should go consider extending the H&A season

It won't surprise me one iota that once these fledgling teams are set up that the AFL down the track will consider another merger with a struggling Melbourne-based club to prop them up with Victorian based members. Adding two new clubs won't change the fact there's too many clubs in Melbourne for all to compete with rich and well resourced non-Vic clubs.

Or Carlton will tank again cause Judd will hardly play all year and steal the draft pick from us again.

the rfc should be doing whatever it takes to make the 8 this yr, so priority draft picks should not be a factor

imo, rebuilding a myth, every yr u have a listto work with , every week 22 players on the field, and every week winning should be no1 priority

whats the point of training and playing if u are not in it to win

rebuilding for 25 yrs, or stuffing up for 25 yrs and using the term "rebuilding" as an excuse to hide behind

maybe we should start from scratch. no rebuilding but re-locate

the golf coast richmond tigers, i would rather relocate than fold or merge, and relocating comes with many benefits, same club, just different home, its not lik ethe mcg is our home anyway

The thing is we haven't rebuilt for most of the past 25 years. We did under KB and we are now but for most of the past two decades we just traded away our best draft picks and topped up with recycled duds from other clubs.

Forget relocating too. We were told that we needed to do that in 1986 and 22 years later we're still here making $1m profits despite still being crap onfield.

the day that this happens is the day i will no longer support the tigers.
relocate is for me the same as folding. no way mate.

1 million dollar profits and we r still crap actually says more about us supporters than a lot of people care to say.
we r the the most loyal supporters in the league, hence why most of us get so pee.ed off at our on field displays.

Also says what a god send Steve Wright has been. A $3 million turnaround since 2004.
