Thursday 13th March
Seniors Geelong vs Coburg Tigers @ Skilled Stadium 3.30pm
Saturday 15th March
Reserves Coburg Tigers vs Port Melbourne @ Trevor Barker Beach Oval 11.10am
Seniors Coburg Tigers vs Port Melbourne @ Trevor Barker Beach Oval 2.00pm
-------------------------
How does Coburg work this week in relation to Richmond with 2 matches in 3 days ???. Are RFC players allowed to play on Thursday as it's a week before the Carlton game?
-
MT,
Game against Port Melbourne has been cancelled.
Coburg will be playing against Geelong as listed on Thursday, seniors only and there will be RFC players playing also.
Not 100% sure but i think by playing it Thursday we can play whoever we like instead of having to apply for certain players to play.
-
Thanks for that TFL :cheers.
You would know more than me and I'm probably thinking of an old rule but I always thought AFL players were meant to have the week off before round 1 unless the club gains permission from the AFL for a player(s) to play in the VFL (eg: ask for more match practice for a player who has missed part of the preseason).
-
The ever sulky Chutney agrees with TFL 100% ;D
-
From what i have heard, it may be some sort of a "loophole" in the rule.
By playing Thursday, it isnt technically the weekend. Not sure how acurate this is but it also works well in regards to the players having a weeks break before Rd1 also.
Coburg Season Launch and Jumper Presentation is also on this Thursday night.
-
Cheers for clearing that up guys :cheers. Got to love those loopholes lol.
Hopefully someone can give up a report on the game ...hint hint ;).

Cogs, Polak, Schulz, McGuane and Graham are likely to play for Coburg this Thursday ...
Meanwhile, the Tigers are considering whether to give Mark Coughlan another run for Coburg in the VFL on Thursday as he recovers from consecutive knee reconstructions.
After encouraging VFL performances he was solid in his return to the seniors against Geelong last Friday night.
Graham Polak (bruised heel) and Jay Schulz (ribs) are likely to apply for permission to play in the VFL game -- also against Geelong -- alongside Luke McGuane and Angus Graham, who have had limited preparations.

I reckon a half would be good for Cogs. Keep the ball rolling for him.

Yes it is :thumbsup Always a good night ;)
And doesn't cost $175 per head :rollin

The word is the Pussies will also have a few senior players going around so another chance for Cogs and co. to have a good hitout against the best.

Thanks for the link jezza :cheers. Good wrap on Rance.
Going by the Geelong BF board they fielded a very strong VFL team with Ottens, Ablett and Selwood playing.

Adds credibility to Wallace's quote that they (Geelong) are 'ready' for Round 1 and will be very hard to beat regardless of the opponent. Sounds like they have a plan to stamp themselves on this year's competition very early on and intimidate their opponents with a good dose of pre-match 'hopelessness'. :'(

Paul Shelton was tonight named captain for the upcoming season at Coburg.
Shelts leads by example and will make a fantastic skipper. :thumbsup

There is a little news in some article about some sort of injury to a nameless player starting with "O" on the AFL site.
Ottens injury scare for Cats

...
(Reams of irrelevant rubbish about some football team I am not interested in. See link to discover the disappointing news that Brad's injury is not serious.)
...
Richmond assistant coaches David King and Brian Royal were on hand to watch Luke McGuane, Daniel Connors and boom draftee Alex Rance.
McGuane starred at centre-half back while Connors knocked up possessions playing across half forward.
Richmond opens its season on Easter Thursday against Carlton at the MCG.

I don't know why I bothered posting this now. I spent 30 seconds of my life cutting and pasting it so I may as well click save. Apologies to anyone who feels their time has been wasted.

Cheers RROFO. Interesting to see if anyone who played yesterday will play round 1. McGuane both both reports has put his hand up.

Good choice :clapping

I believe that Rance put in another good performance.
Will probably be underdone to play Round 1 but if he stays fit it will only be a matter of time before he plays Seniors

He is my choice to play the most games this year out of all the most recent draftees and I agree with those who are seriously talking him up - this guy will make it. :thumbsup

I made the comment last week that i think this guys will be Captain of the Richmond Football Club at some stage in his career. He is fantastic.
Last week against Williamstown this kid was playing in the 2nd's, it was his first game back since doing his ankle 3-4 weeks prior at Geelong. He was put in the Coburg 2's which is effectively our 3rds. Now this kid could have cracked it gone into his shell.
Before the game started he made sure EVERY single player knew who he was and and also most people involved at Coburg. His attitude from the first bounce was A Grade. He hit the ball hard and made 2nd and 3rd efforts every time he went near the ball. At the breaks his voice, knowledge and leadership far outweighed his age and i was blown away.
During the game Rance was tackled while kicking the ball and jarred his ankle. He was bought straight off as a precaution. The doc quickly checked his ankle and cleared him of any damage. After a couple of minutes he was running past the coach pretty much begging to get back on the ground.
This attitude, leadership and desire is what makes me think he will be not only a gun but also a Captain of our Football Club.
I hope that you all enjoy this information because as a die hard Richmond supporter it gave me great satisfaction to watch this kid go about his business.

Good stuff, TFL, very positive vibe for Rance.
Was Murray there to watch, and has he introduced himself to some of the Coburg crew ?

Thanks TFL. Always happy to get an 'on the spot' or 'eye witness' account - I struggle with rumours or inferences. I think you are right on the money with Rance - every single thing I have read or heard about him speaks quality and class. Just one of the reasons that (as a grandparent I should be getting cranky and sceptical) I am confident of our direction and future.
-
I am more than happy to report this sort of stuff.
Now 1965, as for young Rhett Jordan he has shown some good signs but only joined Coburg midway through the pre-season.
Hopefully he will continue to get better throughout the season and he may well be a very handy player.
There are a couple of other players in Josh Jones and Chris Stewart who have come down late in the pre-season and showed some promising signs.
Add to that Doc Davis who looks to add some class also and there are many other young players i could add to this list.

For those interested Coburg are playing the Northern Bullants Princess Park next Saturday.
Reserves starting from 11am and Seniors at approx 2pm
Most Richmond players who dont play on Thursday night will be playing as long as they are fit.
-
Players coming from quality families makes a big difference. I heard some really positive things about both the Cotchin and Rance family. I expect both players will be very good for us. The Selwoods are also a quality family ... we will regret giving up 19 for McMahon. Scott Selwood would have been terrific for us.

TFL, are the VFL lists finalised yet? I read on vflfooty that they were submitted on Monday.
