Title: What did you like about tonight's win?
Post by: TFL on March 20, 2008, 11:06:12 PM
For me i was really happy with the way we quickly moved the ball most of the night, makes a big difference from the shipping sideways and backwards we are used to.

We still made plenty of mistakes but hopefully we can only improve if we keep at it.

Jake King is a little star, made the one bad mistake but he had over 20 touches at about 96% effective. Have to love the way this guy goes about it.

Simmonds was very important in the middle and around the ground, gee we missed him last year.

Richo was Richo, nothings changed but you have to love him.

I thought the backline stuck together pretty well, got a little indecisive at times but its a fairly young back six when you take Bowden out.

I am sure there is more but ill have to sleep on it. Still plenty of work to do but you have to love beating Carlton especially with all the hype about Judd.

That we didn't just roll over when we were 4 goals down. In the first and second quarters we were able to wrestle back the momentum.

That we ran away with the game. Sealed the game in the first 10 minutes of the last quarter.

Kicking 17 goals and scoring over 100 points.

We played longer and more direct from halfway through the 2nd qaurter onwards. Got us back in the game and from then on we were pretty much in control of the match.

Won the clearances and the contested footy in the middle which allowed our superior bookends to Carlton to get the job done.

1/ we never gave up and folded, like we did in the past

2/ we shoved it up the scum

3/ it was a well balanced team effort

4/ we didnt play our best team (maybe our fittest on the night) but not our best

5/ terry coached very well

For me i would have to say the hardnest and balls the players showed to put their bodies on the line. Granted there were a couple of sidesteps but on the whole they showed they weren't going to take any crap, even Browny !

Also i must admit it did feel pretty damn good walking out of the ground looking down on all of those scummy Carlscum supporters like the filthy, insignificant parasites that they truly are.

I love the fact that we didn't give up all match. And even when we were supposed to get free's and didn't while Carlton were getting ones that we wern't we still didn't give up. A great match. I was gunna record it and watch it again but forgot to so that's that real shame here. Love to be able to wath it over again.  :gotigers  And I loved the sheet there Tankers are Wankers on it.

Beating Carlton.

Foley starting where he left off last year.

Jake King.

Browny kicking 3 in what was a pretty average game by his standards.

Jacko taking Judd and doing a good job.

A bit of team spirit being shown.

Raines showing a bit of his 2006 form.

The ball moving into the corridor rather than wide all the time.

The speed and endurance of the team, looked much fitter than Carlton and ran the game out well.

Far far less of those unforgivable skill errors and turnovers so evident last year.

The look on Judd's face after the game.

The courage shown by the lads.

The 1%ers.

The tackling and pressure applied by us.

That light I spied at the end of the tunnel that I wasn't sure was there last year. Positivity is all about faith with the RFC.

Thinking about the kids in the Coburg side, who they are and what they are capable of. Put a big smile on my face.

There's still a huge way to go for us and it could all fall in a heap next week against North. But last night's game was better than any we saw from the team last year. Fingers crossed 2007 was an aberration.

We looked BIG, hard and tough.

Browny telling someone from Carlton to go forth and multiply after the win.

Lets be honest McMahon didnt exactly set the world on fire in the first half, hes second half was better. As for Wallace, hopefully the side continues to perform well over the next 10 weeks before the half way point, everyone just has to wait and see how it all pans out.

GO TIGES

WATiger grab a grip on yourself  :shh
Wallace coached half a game & Tambling & McMahon played half a game  ::) dont get too cocky that was ugly football last night & sometimes terrible when you see more being at the ground
Carlton came to play, there side was fitter than what they make out & it was a great win for Richmond & us supporters but we are far from improved
Richmond let there guard down in the first half & Carlton in defeat was always going to use the poor excuse there side was not 100%fit. But the only person out there with a niggle was Judd & he will never be the same player he was.  Thanks to Johnsons great bodyweight tackle on him that groin will be very sore today if not re-injured cause that tackle changed the game
l'm a Richmond supporter through & through  :thumbsup but 1 win wont make me go overboard there is a hell of alot of work to improve
There was too many good things to write that come out of the game.  l believe our players need to play a faster style game then previous years to bring in the faster type players which truely showed the case in the second half with Tambling, McMahon, Jackson, King, Brown, reading the game better & taking control. If the players continue on with that style they played in the 2nd half & the Terry Wallace coaches like that 2nd half we will win more matches which in tow will lift the players confidence & moral around the club & supporters will grow  :thumbsup

l rate the game 63% (100%) a satifying win & more for me cause it was over Carlton,  but they never won by 40pts  :( but l picked up on other bets  :thumbsup l backed Richmond to win the first 6 games of the season if they do it l be very satifyed  :gotigers

There was alot to like about a win against Carlton at the G in the first game of the season. I too are not getting carried away with that win.

If we played like we did in the first half against a good side we would be down by 10 goals at half time and would never get back. There was to many turnovers, missed takles, skill errors and a few poor efforts. The fact that this is still in the team worries me.

But hey, we won so I am not going to bag any single player for a bad half as its a 4 quarter TEAM game and the only thing that matters in the end is the 4 points.

More of the second half and less of the first half and we will have a good season   :gotigers

Alot to like.

1. We did not roll over and submit meekly when we were 25 points down.

2. We used the ball well in the second half.

3. The low key approach , let the scum do all the talking and overhype their team. The higher you clinb the harder you fall.

4. A system that actually worked. Sure we were playing the worst team in the comp but it worked as well as the team being capable to carry it out.

5. Having to hear Carlton fans talking pre game how Judd is the missing link in their significant climb up the ladder and with Walker and Kreuzer to come in they would be close to premiership glory if not there in 2 years. The looks on their faces in the last quarter was priceless.

6. Furthermore to point 5 I may even think some of them are closet Richmond supporters actually observing some Richmond fan like behaviour like throwing memberships caps and 2008 member scarves over the top level of the Olympic Stand once we went 103-79 up in the last quarter.

7. Then after all that , they still felt they deserved to win as we got 6 goals from free kicks.

8. To actually win a game against Carlton on the MCG that actually meant something and made them worse off than us in the overall scheme of things not just for that season, since the 1973 Grand Final win over them.

9. By that time I was tanked happy and could not give a crap about anything such was my tumultuous joy over the win.

10. Cleaning up on the roulette tables at the casino may a great night even greater.

11. Waking up no hangover, Tigers top of the ladder  :rollin  my wallet heavier and my wife still not mentioning the time I got home Priceless.

Wow, such a lucky man to have so much more to like about the win than me. Good luck to you and please tell me your secret for the roulette tables.

No real secret Fluffy just look for a non Indian or Asian dealer as they tend to be a little less repetitive spinners than eg European, Anglo or Latino and hit blocks of about 5 or 6 successive numbers on the wheel. eg 23, 8,30,11,36,13. 8 and 11 came up 3 times in 6 spins last nite then 30 came up in the seventh. It also helps as Euros, Latinos and Anglos tend to be more friendly croupiers when you talk to them as opposed to those aforementioned who are more afraid of the pit boss breathing down their neck and lack of comprehension to the jokes you crack in your tipsy light headed state, and hence good vibes resonate throughout your brief but fruitful relationship.
Take a break look at some skirt have a drink chat to your mates clear your mind and repeat by finding a new roulette table preferable well away from the one you were on.
Got lucky last night Fluffy, was not as lucky a few weeks back anyway best of luck to you when you go.  :thumbsup
The biggest key is study the croupier for about 5 or 6 spins and notice their demeanour also in terms of likely areas they will spin before you commit your hard earned as well as character in terms of chirpiness friendliness ALERTNESS and always try and squeeze into the seat right next to the wheel if possible to will the little white ball into the number slot you have chosen. Mind over matter also.  :thumbsup

You cannot win at roulette in the long term - ever.

They pay less than true odds so it's just a numbers game for them. The more money on the table the bigger the win for them - it's simply a percentage of what is on the table.

Post by: Hellenic Tiger on March 21, 2008, 03:20:55 PM
Of course , I agree with you mjs. The house long term will win overall
But for suckers like me who enjoy the punt I like to find other ways that the house cannot defend against to somehow increase my odds even though many may argue with me or others who punt it is purely coincidental. Its all about looking for ways to increase your chances. Whatever table I sit on I will get paid straight up 35/1 regardless of my choice of croupier and any perceived psychological advantage I feel I may have over them or the house. Its all about committing to the punt when you feel good about it rather than doing it merely because you act compulsively and it is there.

Statistically the casino game easiest to win is black jack with odds of 17%.

As long as people do it for fun there's no problem - just becomes a problem when punters think they can ultimately win more than they lose. If it's a fun night it can be seen as a cost of the event.

I'm sure that you know, that with one black and 36 numbers the true odds for that 35/1 payout are 37/1, which is over 5% edge for the house. If there are two blacks (no idea if there are in Crown, I think it's a USA thing) it's a 38/1 bet which gives the house even more fat - nice way to make a living for them.

They didn't drop their heads when they were 4 goals down...

But I was really happy to see them trying to bring the ball back through the centre corridor - play like that and we will a few more than we did last year and we always remain in the contest because it give the forwards an opportunity one on one

Coming out on top of the hard ball gets - been along time since we've done that

Now just need to get that tackle count up

I loved the way Rainsy went in hard and didn't panic, Pattos attack on the ball and man when we needed people to stand up and the way Kingy just takes them on.

One thing of note was that if Cleave Hughes wants to keep his place he needs to be the running link up player that some other teams have developed. It was plain as day that we needed someone to forfill that role last night.

* Loved the gutsy marks of Cleve and Tambo

* Jacko's long goal to start the last quarter

* Patto's great snap for a big fella which we badly needed at the time

* Browny's clever goal around his body

As long as people do it for fun there's no problem - just becomes a problem when punters think they can ultimately win more than they lose. If it's a fun night it can be seen as a cost of the event.

At Crown it's worse as they have maximum limits on their bets so even if you play odds/evens or reds/blacks you've got stuff all chance of winning. It stops people doubling up on the same bet until they win.

You're right about taking it as a fun night where the money you lose (set a limit and stick to it) is accepted as the cost for a good night.

The main thing (which everyone has highlighted) was refusing to fold under pressure halfway into the 2nd quarter.

Foley of 2007 was no fluke, the boy can play
Raines ditto (hopefully) from 2006
Jake King can play - can really play

The captain was very good, howl me down but he was hard at it on Thursday night and we smashed them in hard ball gets.

After having heart in mouth for the first qtr and a half, Thursfield not only nullified the Urinator but started to win some of it himself.

Polak did not play that well but boy he is huge.
