Title: Nathan Browns future at Richmond
Post by: Ramps on March 31, 2008, 04:54:13 PM
Just thought Id throw this up, but Nathan Brown is 29 yo ... has had a very bad leg injury, He is still capable of playing some very nice football and maybe of interest to a club searching for a flag ... a top 4 side ... would you put him up for trade at the end of the season.

thats a very good post.
i love him and its sad to see him floating around the way he was the last few seasons, but last week he got 3 goals didn't he so maybe a little premature but i watch with interest.

to throw him up for trade would be terrible considering our lack of success in that area

and Richo and Bowden and Pettifer.

and Wallace.

and Jackstar   :thumbsup

Well maybe not Richo and Bowden but definitely Brownie and Petts.

and nobody would want Jackstar so I guess we are stuck with him as well

I am sure his season will be closely monitored as should all our players be.

Was instrumental in our comeback last week kicking 3 goals.
Too early to write off yet.

Not "write off" just a swap for a younger player that has more chance of being around when we challenge for a flag.

Good points
1. Very skillful
2. Very classy
3. Is a proven matchwinner
4. Senior member of the playing group
5. Very few possies needed to turn a match

Bad points
1. Perhaps physically fine but psychologically fractured after 05 injury
2. Age/ desire physical demands after injury
3. Would rather invest more time in designer t's than playing footy
4. Can go missing in action
5. Perhaps should show more seniority within the goup and use his talents to take a game by the scruff of the neck.

Reality and things beyond his control
1. Too early in the season to make such an assumption
2. Will he be traded despite any shortcomings or abilities shown during the season
3. Refer to criteria 3 point 1
4. May become injury prone as has not had a full season under his belt since 05 injury

What I think.
Would be an option to trade him but classy classy players like Browny do not grow on trees and who in the current list would adequately replace him in that role.
Pettifer to soft too selfish
Edwards perhaps as is classy but needs consistency

Would and would not be disappointed to see Browny traded but if it helps the club in the long run then and we recruit wisely then yes. Just waiting for Browny to stamp a game with 5 or 6 goals and 20 touches in a big win to signal his return from the abyss that has been his career since round 10 2005. Would hate to see him struggle with us and we trade him only for him to return to becoming a 50-60 goal forward at his new club. All in all alot of issues to weigh up.

seriously its not a option. last week 3 goals remember
like i said our record in recruting is terrible and we could end up with another lounder

We got more out of Browny in 3 years than we got out of Coughlan,  why not trade Cogs his a highly paid non player

Browny seems to have lost the elusive pace and agility. He isn't the player he was and have been waiting to reimerge. He doesn't seem to be able to shake a direct opponent and only gets the ball through chance.

On the flip side though he still is a beautiful kick but without the pace...

I think what I find hardest is losing the memory of the success we had from his past brilliance rather than theplayer he is today.

I hope this is all a bit premature

Play him, Lids, Blingers, Bowden and Foley in the midfield. Get that right and everything else will follow

I can't see Browny being traded. It's not like at 30 years of age we'll get a early 1st and 2nd round pick like we paid for him. Remember also he's missed basically 2 years of footy all up since the leg so it's too early to judge after just 2 rounds when his basically got us back into the game against Carlton. He's contracted till the end of 2009 and I reckon he'll see it out.

I hope we don't throw him to the wolves. I think he has more to offer than a few others. So lets keep him around as when he's on fire he's an inspiration to the whole team. He's a game lifter so give him the chance to prove it.

Keep him around to remind Lids that talent and skill alone isnt enough without hard work to become a superstar

FHO?

I looked this up and all I could find was...

FHO Femoral Head Osteotomy
FHO Force Hygiene Officer
FHO Fremde Heere Ost (German Intelligence Evaluation Service, Eastern Section, WWII)

Which one did you mean?

I know he's missed a lot of footy since 2005 and Browny turned the game in the midfield against Carlton but he's really struggling up forward this year. Whether it's a result of the leg or just him getting older (now a 30 year old) he's lost a yard of pace and acceleration and he's being easily beaten 1-on-1 in the air over the past 2 weeks.

Healy said on 3aw that when he watched Browny 2 weeks ago he didn't look slow or had lost his mojo. Reckoned Browny the past two weeks was running to the wrong spots and not working hard enough.

He was good today although he made a bit of a goose of himself raising his arms on the siren before realising it was a draw :wallywink.

l dont have any problem with Bigpond & never have & been with them since day dot
hence you need to be with bigpond to view their services or simply pay

As for Nathan Browns future l'm sure that its been put to rest with his form & is one of the reason Richmond is doing better & his playing a more run around role than wasting in the forward line

I agree. It's interesting that by playing both of our major forwards up the ground where the ball needs to be won it has made such a significant difference to our overall structure and intensity.

great work

i remember after the collingwood game a few of us were very critical of his game at the current game.
what a difference a month makes in footy.

he and richo have been a delight to watch since that game..

I saw that. It was similar to the play in which he broke his leg just didn't have anyone jumping on top of it. Good to see him sticking his leg out again, the break doesn't seem to be playing on his mind.
