Crazy.  Those two teams are hopeless and should struggle to make the finals I reckon, let alone the premiership.

Geez, half of the starting 18 played 10 or more games in the seniors last year.  Shows signs of developing list depth.

And I just remembered ....

Burgers are playing Port Melbourne therefore the 12/10 rules applies

Only 12 RFC boys can play for Coburg seniors this week

If Collins isn't injured then I am very disappointed that he's been dropped after last week.

Here is the Reserves line up

Cass, Cotchin on the wing. Collins named on the ball. I would say this is due to the 12/10 rule that Wp mentioned. You have to remember that Howat and Pettifer are playing in the ones also. That takes away two spots.

I think big Steve Foster may be a good chance to play his first senior game of the year with Patto expected to play for the Tigers. Chris Stewart appears to have been dropped this week.

Gus is back on the bench also.

B Vasilevski Gourdis Huy
HB Rance Riddle Farrelly
C Casserly Corr Cotchin
HF Gazzo Currie Clingan
F Lynch Stewart Collard
R Putt Collins Carrick
Int Clifton Dulic Hopkins
  Graham Simpson Cattapan
  Foster Keogh Jones
  McErlain Davis

Reserves to win by 100+ points.
Seniors should dominate with that lineup.
Title: Re: Coburg vs Port Melbourne
Post by: mightytiges on April 17, 2008, 10:22:19 PM
Tough on Collins if he as a senior listed player has to make way for a rookie-listed player like Howat. Form wise Collo should be playing Coburg 1's. It's Petts and Cam's own fault they got reported and are playing VFL. Rance dropped too.

There's 16 RFC players named in the Coburg line-up but only 3 go up so Cotch or Cass could still miss out.

Cass played really well last week so i think he would play ones if it was between him and Cotchin.

Cotchin wont play until he can play a full game which i doubt he would this week.

TFL would you reckon Cotch will play a full game for the Burger ressies this week?

Good to see Gus back too.

Depends on how he has trained this week.

I would think the next step after playing two 15min qtrs would be to do the same in 3-4 qtrs in the Coburg 2's.

Until he can play a full game i doubt he will be playing Coburg ones.

If he gets through well this week then maybe the week after on Anzac Day.

I know that everyone seems to support the coburg link up, but to some degree I reckon these 12-10 rules hamper development of our players. We have way to many of our players playing at Coburg 2s.

Anyone know if the new Craigieburn facility would be up to scratch as a VFL venue. RFC should consider having its own reserves team and having the reserves down at Craigieburn full time.

Ramps this rule only comes into effect when we play stand alone clubs such as Port Melbourne, Frankston etc.

When we play teams that are aligned like ourselves there are no restrictions. I am pretty sure i have that correct.

WP or MT may be able to verify this.

Is that also true for stand alone clubs like Geelong and Collingwood? Wasn't Geelong last year allowed to play their rookies or something like that.

My understanding of the 12/10 rule in the finals for the Geelongs & C'woods of this world is that it doesn't apply if their AFL team is still in the AFL finals. SO last year because Geelong was playing the FL Prelim final the same weekend as the VFL GFinal the 12/10 rule didn't apply to them

I am off to the footy now  ;D

Seniors have started. Port on top early and getting the run of the frees.

Port      0.3-3
Coburg  0.0-0

There's a Luke Cotchin for Port which is going to make it confusing if Trent is playing.

Bowden playing forward. Marks and goals

Rawlings said before the game it is his job to get Richmond players back into form.

Port winning the centre clearances but Coburg players finding plenty of space. Coburg took the first 10 minutes to get going.

Petts missed after the siren.

Petts and Hughes have presented well up forward.
Bowden, Jacko had a heap of it. The commentators also said Cass was doing well.
Silvester doing well in defence.

Cotchin in his first game seemed to spark the Burgers in the centre.

Petts lifted. Must have got a rocket from Rawlings at half-time.

Howat got a fair bit of it too.

Cleve straightened Coburg up across HF.

Cass good too.

Silvester solid down back.

Still 3 goals down but after being 51 points down we're back in the game. We'll see how our fitness goes against a stand alone side.

Polo and Cotchin eating lollies.

Can I have a go at Bowden and Pettifer influence for Coburg being so "slow and stagnant" in the forward line?  :shh  ;)  :wallywink

No need to.
a couple of goals and assists in the vfl hardly equate to vindication of
cancer and failure at a senior level.

Morton kicks 7s and 9s....... :thumbsup :wallywink

Connors has been very quiet. Cotchin was impressive and Cleve did well given the crap delivery he had to put up with.

Burgers couldn't run out the game again although they were ordinary all day even when in front early on. Game lost from halfway through the 2nd quarter to halfway through the 3rd. Port must have kicked around 12 goals in that period to hardly anything.

Petts - Finished with 4 goals but one good quarter doesn't make up for 3 ordinary ones for a senior player with his AFL experience.

Bowden - will be spending more time at the Burgers. He probably end up with decent possession stats and kicked 3 goals but no real influence on the game.

Silvester - sounded like the only Burger who put in 4 quarters and did his job at FB.

Cotchin - nice cameo in the 3rd quarter. Obviously will need more games at this level to build up his fitness.

Hughes - sounded as he had to put up with the poor delivery Richo copped most of his career. Good 3rd quarter (5 marks in 15 minutes) and reasonable first half in patches.

Jacko - got a fair bit of it in the first half and a bit but didn't sound as though he used it well. I hardly heard his named mentioned in the last quarter.

Howat - probably high teen in possessions and sounded handy in the 3rd quarter but like so many went missing in patches.

Connors - quiet.

Cartledge - sounded as though he tried hard but was beaten in the ruck. This is his level.

Cass - good in patches when he was able to get on the end of a receive but quiet otherwise.

JON - Tries hard but just not up to it even at this level.

Polo - tagged Spriggs but otherwise quiet.

Cotchin is very impressive, moves well has good balance and knows what he is doing.

He also runs into the right places to link up through the ground.

I didnt think Jackson was that good. Bowden was good and i think he should be used more up forward and even in the middle when he comes back into the Richmond side.

Cotch just needs to get his fitness up after missing the preseason. If he was fit he'd be playing seniors. At least one positive out of our terrible effort.

Good to see Putt, Rance and Gourdis, all talls, named in the bests for the Coburg ressies. Putt backing up being named in the bests last week.

Putt was very good today in the Reserves, this kid will be something.

Rancey was very good again and gave plenty of drive off the half back line.

Dave Gourdis continues to develop and improve as a key back. He played well again and is such a great athlete. Laid a great tackle on a player running into an open goal. He sometimes appears out of the contest but at the last minute makes good position to spoil or mark.

Collo was ok, without doing anything to special.

Gus got through the game well and moved freely throughout the game. Took a massive pack mark about 40m out directly in front and then sprayed the kick something terrible. He was bagging himself on the bench when he came off for a rest. He is a massive unit big Gus and hopefully he can stay injury free and get a real crack at it for the rest of the year.

Collard was average today, kicked a couple but needs to do more of the team things and at times try's to do to much when he should handball.

Any questions, fire away.

Gus played atleast 10 minutes a qtr. He was blowing up but got through well.

One last question - the radio commentators today really bagged Bowden and Petts at half-time for playing for themselves to get selected for Richmond and not the Coburg jumper. Interested in the views of those who were there today as to whether this was so or just overdramatic commentary?

I would say this may be true for Pettifer as he had a lot of shots on goal, even when he was fully stretched he didnt really try and pass just had a shot.

key question- is it to RFCs benefit that these boys are playing in Coburgs 2s when blokes like Sylvestor and JON and others are getting games in Coburgs 1s.

Rance and JON were swapping last week on the half back line. From what i have seen of JON this season, i would think its in the RFC's best interests to play Rance ahead of JON in the position anyhow. For some reason JON is very highly rated, not sure why.

I am really disappointed in this result and the year in general especially considering where we finished last year.  :o

I'm also saddened by the new of how Petts and Bowden played. This is a major reason why the two of them are there in the first place! >:(

I am glad to hear that Cotch played well. I think he needs many more games for Coburg before he is selected for the Tigers. The more match fitness he can get the better for when he breaks on to the scene for nomatter how fast VFL seems, AFL is that step or two above.

After having a look at our draw Im suggesting Cotchin should debut around r9 v Essendon. We then have a string of games where we can be pretty competitive. I think he should use the next few weeks to get some added fitness and run into his legs, do some proper preparation and be ready for AFL action vs Essendon in the Dreamtime match.

Match Report Vs. Port Melbourne Round 4 2008
By Glenn Robertson
coburgtigers.com.au

The Burgers faced up against a strong Port Melbourne side this week at TEAC Oval. After a fiercely contested even first quarter Port Melbourne kicked away in the second term to take out the game, although there were many positive signs for the Burgers.

The form the young Coburg players are showing while playing for Richmond in the previous weeks has been fantastic. Each time Richmond listed players for Coburg are rewarded with a call up to the Tiger side they are performing above the expected standards and showing thedepth that the Coburg side has.

In a physical opening quarter both teams squandered goaling opportunities and kicked inaccurately, with Port taking a single point lead into the first change.

¼ Time: Coburg 3.5 (23) Port Melbourne 3.6 (24)

Port were dominant in the second term as they piled on eight goals to Coburg’s three. Instead of moving the ball directly through the middle of the ground like previous weeks, the Burgers used the wings more and Port were able to get numbers back to crowd Coburg’s
forward line.

Joel Bowden continued on his excellent form from the previous week dominating
through the midfield and then moving forward to also kick three superb goals.

Another positive sign for the Burgers was the form of 2007 number two draft pick Trent Cotchin. He won a lot of contested ball and looked good around the stoppages.

Daniel Jackson worked hard up and down the ground all day taking multiple contested marks and providing a good strong target around the ground.

½ Time: Coburg 6.8 (44) Port Melbourne 11.8 (74)

Burger coach Jade Rawlings had some stern words to say to his men at half time and the side came out firing kicking eight goals five behinds for the term. Kayne Pettifer was a focal point up forward snagging five majors and providing defensive pressure when Coburg didn’t have the ball.

It was just unfortunate that Port Melbourne were so accurate in the third term kicking seven straight goals. Their delivery to the forwards was first class and there was little the Burger defenders could do.

The Tigers went into the three quarter time huddle on a high, and they knew if they played the footy they were capable of, then the game was definitely up for the taking.

¾ Time: Coburg 14.13 (97) Port Melbourne 18.8 (116)

In the end the Boroughs forward line was too strong and they managed to kick another six goals in the final term, while the Burgers could only muster one major for the quarter.

Jarrod Silvester played his best game for the season, playing deep in defence and creating good run out of the backline. Sam Robertson and Nick Liddle also stood out for the Burgers; both boys playing solid games.

Even the scoreboard shows the home team fifty points above their opponents; it was a much more even contest with the Burgers having 32 scoring shots to Ports 35, but not quite as accurate at goal.

Although the Burgers sit eleventh on the ladder with one win they have a very healthy percentage of 105%. Meaning a win next week will see them elevated back into the top eight. Coburg face a winless Box Hill on Anzac Day, Friday 25th April, at ABD Group Stadium kicking off at 2.00pm. While the Reserves play on Sunday also at ABD Group Stadium starting at 12.00am.

Coburg Tigers   3.5  6.8  14.13 15.17 (107)
Port Melbourne 3.6 11.8  18.8   24.11 (155)

Goal Kickers: K. Pettifer 5, J. Bowden 3, T. Casserly 2, T. Cartledge, N. Liddle, F. Caruso, C. Hughes, J. Oakley-Nicholls

Best Players: J. Bowden, T. Cotchin, S. Robertson, J. Silvester, N. Liddle, D. Jackson

Reserves

The reserves continued on their fine start to the season with another huge victory over Port Melbourne this week. Nick Lynch and Chris Stewart were the main destroyers up forward kicking six and five goals respectively. Young gun Dean Putt was best on ground for the Burgers putting in a fine performance in the ruck.

While Jo Gazzo and Alex Rance were also excellent and must be in the mix for a call up to the senior side next week.

Coburg Tigers   4.4 10.5 15.10 21.12 (138)
Port Melbourne  1.1  5.2   6.4      8.5 (53)

Goal Kickers: N. Lynch 6, C. Stewart 5, J. Gazzo 3, P. Currie 2, C. Collard 2, C. Corr, D. Putt, D. Gourdis

Best Players: D. Putt, J. Gazzo, A. Rance, N. Lynch, D. Gourdis, S. Huy
