Yep wait until he is fit enough to play out 4 quarters for Coburg.

Plough must have read Ramps post about keeping Cotch for a debut in the Dreamtime game.

Cheers TFL  :cheers. Good to see Gus and Putt may get a game. No Rance though  ???.

It could be the ressies for Connors as Rawlings wasn't happy with Daniel's commitment in EOTT.

Daniel Connors

Struggled throughout the match. No question of his talent, but needs to focus on the basics better.

Cleve also got a whack for only working to the required level for 20 minutes.

Im slowly coming to the conclusion that the coburg alliance will not help us long term because players who need to be developing in Coburgs seniors on a regular basis cant get a go because of the rules. None of our young players should be in Coburg 2s, they should all be playing in Coburg 1s.

Ramps there are no restrictions this week, its only against teams such as Port Melbourne and Frankston who dont have an alignment.

If a player isnt showing the right attitude, what more of a kick up the arse could you get than being dropped to the 3rds essentially.

What about a kid like Rance, which I still havent heard a bad word about, why is he stuck there then?

It basically comes down to balance, he is a great kid and has a great attitude. It would be great for him to be playing seniors as he will only get better IMO. Richmond would definately have a say in the development of the players and where they play each week. Rance plays a similar spot to what JON is currently playing, i know who i would rather play but i doubt you will JON dropped from the seniors.

It is a strange one that, but I guess I'm not going to get a definitive answer why JON despite some horrible performances has never been dropped?

They had Barry Mitchell Box Hill coach on SEN before and they asked him if he was going to tag Trent Cotchin lol. Seems Cotch has made quite an impression despite no preseason and just 80% game time in one game.

Because each week he gets praise for his efforts in EOTT from Rawlings  :-\

When he got his running game going, he was a good player. Made some errors at crucial times, which reduced his rating from good to okay, but is definitely showing improvement.

Hughes has been good on the lead. 3 marks. More CHF. Well on top of Dawson.

JON actually has done well. Got a fair bit of it nd by the sound of it used it well.

Jackson doing well in the clearances but disposal has been off.

Cotchin plenty of it. Sounds as though he's playing across HB.

Bowden - very soft so far. Got a fair bit of it but seems disinterested.

Silvester was well beaten by Dowler.

The rest I've only heard only a couple of times.

Really quiet quarter for most of the RFC players.

JON is probably the best RFC player. I would say the Burger players are getting their hands more on it than most of the RFC blokes.

Joel and Tivs getting a fair bit of it but stuffing it up nearly every time they get it.

Cotch was out there near the end but I didn't hear him otherwise all quarter.

Bowden 11 possies in the 1st; only 2 in the 2nd
Tivs 14 (8k 6h)
JON 14 (9k 5h)
Jackson 11 (5k 6h)
Hughes 4 marks.

Richo was there watching but has gone home lol.

Wallace with his wife there.
Terry said there's not a lot in it. BH a bit cleaner especially into the forward line. Coburg need more run. HFs too high up the ground early on but they'll sort it out at half-time.
Jack, Edwards, White now at richmond after good form at Coburg.

Ryan O'Connor:
Good crowd there now.
We haven't lost one of these ANZAC Day games so hopefully the boys can turn it around after half-time.

Even if we win this we can't be happy. Shocking skillless display.

Rawlings says to kick and run. Praised Liddle, Rayson for their desperation. Get extra numbers to the ball instead of spreading out. We've got the control of this game. Value the possession inside 50. Don't think the wind is going to do it and just bomb it long. Joel back inside 50 20m in front of Petts. Backline held up well. Praised JONNY. We need to show courage as whenever we've done it we've won the ball.

Rawlings told Cleary we haven't played well at all (der!) but we strarted to get on top that quarter. Our finishes haven't been our strength but we've got the momentum and the wind.

Howat with ice pack on the outside of his knee. He's walking unaided though.

Just shows the difference listening to it on the radio and being there. From the commentary we were told JON didn't make a clear turnover today (unlike his more senior teammates) and he was one of our better players in the first half with his rebound in defence then he shut out Kris Shore in the second half who was their most dangerous looking forward. Whereas Bowden, Tivs and Petts once again showed why they are playing VFL.  One-handed attempts at marks and running around in circles. Just poor form from senior supposedly AFL players

I was there today - am not a JON fan generally but a big improvement today - at least looked like a footballer - hit most easy targets and fed off quickly most times. When he had to hit a difficult target still cant nail them consistently but picked out some good options when he had time -only a couple of 50/50 balls from him today.  He went on to Shore in the third and played deep back. Prior to that was runing off half back - appeared to be the loose man from time to time.  Pettifer was loose man in defnece in the third and I thought did better there than up forward.

Cotchin is all class and although quiet in the middle of the match was our cleanest handler and best clearance player in the last.  Absolute silk, closest comparision is G Ablett Junior, has the hunched shoulders and gliding through packs ability - doesn't look overly quick generally but shows nice closing speed and accelaration through contested situations when needed - probably looks quicker because of his good anticipation and very very clean hands.  Better kick than G Ablett junior - especially on wrong side

Nice size for a young mid , strong in the legs - although upper body will improve with some preseasons and maturing.  Could easily play next week and not look out of place but probably needs a few weeks to build up some fitness.  Exciting times tiger fans - we need them too because Coburg has become boring as bat droppings with the superannuated brigade reurning and the likes of Riewoldt, Edwards, White Morton etc missing.

Happy to answer any questions.

Cheers for the report Glove  :cheers. What you've said about JON fits in with the radio commentary.

How much gametime did Cotchin play?  From the radio commentary Cotchin was very good in the first quarter and a bit and got his hands on the footy a fair bit (it sounded as though he was playing across HB). We didn't him mentioned much after that until late in the game in the centre when Coburg were on top and winning most of the clearances.

Also how did Cleve do? He sounded as though he was in and out of the game but when he was in it he lead strongly and marked well across HF.
Title: Re: Coburg vs Box Hill - Anzac Day

JON constantly tries to do too much and while he may not directly cause the turnover, his disposal to a team mate who is under enormous pressure does cause the turnover.

I was standing right neat Wallace in the 1st qtr and even he was making comment that JON keeps running into traffic when he gets the ball and is putting his team mates under too much pressure.

Nick Carnell was fantastic today and really set the tone. Joel's leadership was fantastic, his half time rev up to the boys was very good.

Cothchin is all class, i love the way he busts his gut after disposing the ball to make himself an option again and provide run. He reads the ball ups very well and will be a fantastic player for us.

Cass copped a huge hit from Zac Dawson who was reported. He was feeling a little ordinary after the game.

Robbo was also very strong down back today also.

I thought Tiv struggled.

Joel, could be back next week.
Petts has got the skillls, but mentally a bit of a sook - BIG ? on him.
Cotchin is class, fitness and gametime up and will be going in my supercoach.
Heard about his second efforts and he does it well....  :gotigers more later maybe .....

on a side note cogs walked past 'if u can say that' his hammy is fudged, big struggle for this boy the way he climbed the steps next to me - wish him all the best, but not looking to flash. :gotigers

Forget about Cogs his finished  :lol maybe smokey_58au can go down the club to rub his hammy for him cause he told me he was superfit & be running the seniors soon  :lol

l'm getting conflicting reports on Bowden  >:( did he play good or not & whats the report on Tivs

l tell ya,  its a good feeling seeing the tigers having good players running around for Coburg & the senior team unchanged again
but l hope Rawlings dont drop his guard & continue to push the senior listed players harder cause if he dont it might rub off onto the Coburg team if these senior listed players start thinking their time is up & start doing things to get out

Thanks for the reports TFL and CUB. Good to hear Cotchin is doing well.

Cogs didn't train this week at all. He didn't even do any running. Not sure where the RFC site got that he was a "test". Compare that to Danny who is training fully but was classed as a week away.

That's more like the JON we know but you wouldn't have got that impression from the commentary. In fact they were saying JON went onto Shore because he was getting away from Robertson.

Cotchin played a fair bit, but was probably rotated more than most for a spell.  Spent a fair bit of the second up forward.  Coburg hamstrung a bit by losing Howat early so one significant runner down.  Spent almost all last quarter on ball and really just showed how good he is!

I actually liked Cleve's game a lot - dont know that he had a good game stats wise but did all the thiings he didn't do last year - worked hard - led up competed well - good hands generally - was often outnumbered and did OK and more than OK on a number of occassions - good signs - still need to find a bit more because he cant rely on being just a lead and mark forward.

Cogs didn't train this week at all. He didn't even do any running. Not sure where the RFC site got that he was a "test". Compare that to Danny who is training fully but was classed as a week away.

That's more like the JON we know but you wouldn't have got that impression from the commentary. In fact they were saying JON went onto Shore because he was getting away from Robertson.

Correct. Shore cut up Robbo a fair bit althought Roberston dod some good things coming back the other way.  JON went back on to him in the third  and took the honours.  We all know JON's weaknesses - but on today's game you can at least say there are some improvements.  Whether his poor decision making is terminal, time will tell.  He was much more composed and in fact hit up a couple of lovely targets inside.  If you saw him for the first time today and didn't know his history you would think he was a promising type.

I agree with Glove about Cleve. He worked hard and chased and tackled fairly well which is a good sign. The game was a very ordinary level, Box Hill flooded heavily all day and Coburg really stuggled to deal with it, you could see in the third qtr that Box Hill were getting tired and that Coburg may run over them.

In regards to Tigermonks question. Bowden was very good in the second half and played good footy and also gave great leadership.

His first half was a typical Bowden game trying to do bullsh!t things and play around with the ball.

Cheers TG. Good to hear on both fronts. Hopefully Cleve can keep working and improving and put his hand up for senior selection each week.

And that's why he shouldn't come back into the senior side until he performs properly for 4 quarters at Coburg.

Nothing wrong with JON, sometimes people want results straight away, he is doing ok imo.

:gotigers

rubbish petts has got no skills. he is a useless selfish footballer who is happy to get his 1-2 goals per match and do no more, while his opponent runs free and picks up a lazy 20 possy's a game.
if we r to move forward its better we do it without him.

From the Herald-Sun
Brett Stubbs | April 26, 2008

JOEL Bowden has made an irresistible case for inclusion in the Richmond side after starring in the VFL for Coburg for the third straight week.

Playing mainly at half-forward, Bowden kicked two goals and was among Coburg's best in yesterday's 12-point win against Box Hill Hawks at Coburg City Oval.

Coburg's Richmond-listed players were pivotal in the come-from-behind win, with forward Kayne Pettifer booting three goals before moving up the ground after halftime.

Greg Tivendale collected 30 possessions on the wing.

Steve Kenna and Hawthorn-listed utility Josh Kennedy were among Box Hill's best.

Rawlings said his side showed character after hitting the front for the first time in the last quarter.

"We really toughed it out today," Rawlings said.

"We got a bit of momentum in the last quarter and we got a big lift from some of our senior players."

Jon was very ordinary, his man kicked 3 goals and killed him all day long. Not to mention the turnovers  ::)

Well JON did win the coaches award at the after match. Which isn't for BOG (Carnell got that obviously) but for the player they thought did their job, worked hard and did the team things.

So maybe he wasn't too bad after all  :thumbsup

Personally thought it was JON"s best game this year. At the huddle at 3qtr time he received the "kudo's" of the coach. Thought his disposal was v.good - some beautiful passes to the leading target

Thought Cleve's last quarter was very good - he put up a great chase along the boundary - nneds to do more of that :thumbsup

As I said last week Cotchin = special ;D

Agree. Rance and Collins should come into the seniors. It's not as though the Coburg seniors are flying and they need to add some class now that Jack, Edwards and co are playing with Richmond.

Actually it's good to see all 5 RFC players contributed in some way. Collard named in the bests is an encouraging sign. Hopefully that meant he is working harder.

Rance was fantastic today, he run all over the ground is fantastic. He played on the wing for a while also and has a great motor.

He attitude towards footy is fantastic and he is a great leader.

Collard played most of the game in on the ball or wing today and was pretty good. He is getting better at handballing off when under pressure instead of taking on the man. I really think that his ability and talent have hindered his development as a player, i think he may have done it too easy as a younger player and hence has kept some bad habits. I think we really need to persist with him and he could turn into a real freaky player.

Collins worked well through the middle and Connors had a great first half and didnt do a great deal in the second. Looked a class about though, especially in the first half.

Dave Gourdis continues to come along as a key defender, his strength and pace is a real plus and his defence efforts continue to improve by the week. Wouldnt surprise to see him push for senior selection soon.

For the Coburg boys, Fort Caruso responded well to being dropped and played a very solid game on the ball. Benny Clifton was good once again on a wing and is proving a very handy player for the 2's. Big Fossie dominated around the ground in the ruck and Nick Lynch and Joey Gazzo continued their goal kicking spree's.

On a side note, John Morris has broken his foot (on friday) in two places and will be out for atleast 8 weeks. On a positive note this should allow Rance to cement a spot in the seniors.

He didnt play the whole game on the wing, probably most of a qtr i would say.

Collins will be close to getting back in the Seniors, he needs to be able to play consistant footy for the seniors before he can lay claims for a Richmond spot.

I think they obviously rate him at Richmond and are trying to encourage him along by naming him as an emergency, he certainly has some upside.

Just looking forward to the next couple of VFL weeks. No VFL footy next week and then following week the Coburg ressies have the bye. What will that mean for our RFC boys especially those playing with the ressies? It's not ideal to have fit RFC players without a game for 3 weeks  :-\.

Match Report Vs. Box Hill Round 5 2008
coburgtigers.com.au
FRIDAY 25TH APRIL 2008 – ANZAC DAY

SENIORS

The Burgers faced up against a winless Box Hill Hawks side this week at ABD Group Stadium on Anzac Day. A large crowd built on what was a fine weathered day and a good hard game of football was on show.

After a rusty first three quarters of football the Tigers put their foot down in the last term and ran away with a solid twelve point victory.

Unlike previous weeks Coburg got off to a slow start, allowing the Hawks to kick five goals in the first term, scoring only three themselves.

Jarrod Silvester continued on last weeks excellent form with a very solid game holding up the backline, and on some occasions leaving his man to be the third man up helping out team mates.

¼ Time: Coburg 3.2 (20) Box Hill 5.3 (33)

Joel Bowden again was a prominent player for the Burgers. He played mainly across the half forward line and finished the match with two majors. Kayne Pettifer was the Tigers other main man up forward finishing with three goals for the game.

The Burgers had more of the ball in the second term, but unlike the Hawks who kicked 3 straight goals, the Tigers were a little inaccurate slotting three goals-four behinds.

Daniel Jackson was a focal point around the ground and the big man took multiple contested marks again and used the ball very efficiently.

½ Time: Coburg 5.6 (36) Box Hill 8.3 (51)

Greg Tivendale was a great target running out of defence and collected a bundle of possessions on the wing, finishing the match with 30 touches.

The Burgers backline was fantastic in the third term. Everyone worked for each other and the midfielders ran back well to crowd the Hawks forward line, making it impossible for them to score. Coburg only added two majors themselves but ended the quarter only ten points behind.

¾ Time: Coburg 7.8 (50) Box Hill 9.6 (60)

It wasn’t until midway through the last term that Coburg were in front for the first time in the match. Burgers coach Jade Rawlings was proud of his boys to keep fighting all day long. “We got a bit of momentum in the last quarter and we got a big lift from some of our senior players” Rawlings said.

Nick Carnell and Paul Shelton were simply awesome, putting their body on the line on many occasions and winning the hardball in the packs. Both were crucial in the last term with fantastic clearance work.

Nick Carnell won the Gibbs-Lines Medal for best on ground.

Coburg won the Anzac Cup.

Next weekend both the seniors and reserves will not be playing due to the split round.

Coburg are at home again on Saturday 10th May 2008 starting at 1.10pm, against Collingwood. This is also a televised game. The Reserves will have a week off with a bye.

Coburg Tigers 3.2 5.6 7.8 11.13 (79)
Box Hill          5.3 8.3 9.6 10.7 (67)

Goal Kickers: K. Pettifer 3, J. Bowden 2, G. Tivendale, D. Jackson, N. Carnell, T. Casserly, C. Hughes, G. Carrick

Best Players: N. Carnell, J. Silvester, P. Shelton, D. Jackson, G. Tivendale, J. Bowden

RESERVES

The Reserves made it four wins from four games with a belting of Box Hill by 104 points on Sunday. Nick Lynch continued his fine goal kicking form with another five majors, while ten other Burger players contributed with at least one goal each.

The game was clearly over at half time as Coburg had piled on 15 majors to the Hawks measly 2.

Alex Rance was again in excellent form collecting best on ground, while Jo Gazzo, Daniel Connors and Fort Caruso all played impressive games,
and will be hoping for a re-call back into the seniors in the coming weeks.

The Reserves now sit on top of the ladder with a very healthy percentage of 218.

Coburg Tigers  7.6 15.7 17.7 23.12 (150)
Box Hill Hawks 1.0  2.4   4.8   6.10 (46)

Goal Kickers: N. Lynch 5, J. Gazzo 4, D. Connors 3, F. Caruso 2, B. Clifton 2, D. Gourdis 2, P. Currie, A. Collins, J. Jones, A. Rance, C. Collard

Best Players: A. Rance, S. Foster, C. Collard, F. Caruso, N. Lynch, A. Collins

Bluey Chris Stewart has a lot of talent, i think his work rate though is very questionable.

He plays it pretty tough and is a good size, good mark and good kick for goal.

You may know better than myself but i heard that when he played under 18's he was very highly rated but then was overlooked, i believe mainly due to his work rate. He can certainly be a little lazy at times and looks very laconic out on the ground.

He can certainly play though.

90kg is one of the most heavy players on our list.

Infact, outside our 8 biggest ruckman and KPP - Jacko is the next highest weight, alongside Bowden who is a similar size and wa holding down CHB for us.

Jackson, Tuck, Johnson, Deledio are our biggest body mids at the current.

Newman is 5kgs less.

Polo, White, Tambling, Connors, Raines, Cotchin, Morton are 10 kgs lighter than Jackson! Another pre-season or 2 will do them wonders. Still only 19-22 age bracket.
