Title: Brave Acts of the Century?
Post by: one-eyed on April 24, 2008, 05:40:06 AM
The Club has nominated 10 Treasures in 10 different categories to form the 100 Tiger Treasures, with Richmond members and supporters invited to vote to decide the best of the best in each category.

What incidents do you folks think will fit under the category "Brave Acts of the Century"?

Don't know if this can be classified as a brave act of the century but there is one piece of play from a Richmond player than stands out in my memory and made a huge impression on me.

I don't remember the match or even if we won or not, but I can clearly remember Michael Gale, running back with the flight of the ball, attempting to take an important defensive mark. He was completely pole-axed by an opposition player coming the other way. I knew it was going to happen, I'm damn sure Michael knew it was going to happen, but he didn't once stop or slow down or take his eye off the ball. Broke his collar bone.

Whenever I think of brave pieces of play I always thing of that.

Dodgy kicking aside especially Duncan, a bravery thread woudn't be complete without the Kellway brothers. Too numerous to name but both would fly back with the flight of the all into oncoming traffic.

That was the Round 15 1995 Drawn Friday night game versus the Bombers.
On that note how about Stuart Maxfield kicking the goal from 50 to put us a goal up in the same match with a broken jaw.
