excellent stuff to see collard come up :thumbsup
-
The Burgers will be glad to have Morton kick another 7 goals for them. A good win could see them jump into the top 4.
A last chance to push for Richmond selection for a couple of weeks with the VFL having a week off next week for the state game. Only Silvester and Cartledge are in the VFL squad.
excellent stuff to see collard come up :thumbsup
Ditto. Hopefully all 3 RFC boys on the bench play.
That'd leave Putt, Gourdis and Meyer in the ressies.
-
great to see collard getting a chance to show what hes got this will only make him more determind to play even better football.
-
Go Collard
-
The club should put as much time and energy into Collard as possible. That kid could be a huge bonus for us. I remember his carnival games, he was outstanding in 1 match. Work him hard, if hes got any brain at all he catch on eventually and we could get an outstanding player.

He'll want to have a cracking game to show where he is at, colly wants a cracker.
-
The pre-game talk is on Double X 1611 AM now. They just had Rawlings on. He said Coburg need to remember they are a workingmen's team and it's when they start thinking they are better than they think they are that they come a cropper against the better sides. The rest of the interview was mainly on his Richmond role and stuff we've heard before about Richo, Joel and Petts.
-
PRE reports that the reserve won by 150 pts (30 32 - 7 3). The also say Collard played reserves.
-
Just mentioned it on 3XX: Ressies won by 167 points :o

-
Graham there too replacing Cartledge in the ruck.
Umps handing out heaps of frees to Bendigo but the Bombers have missed 3 set shots. They finally get one.

-

They've now gone to the ice hockey :P
WP says Coburg 24 points up 10 mins into the last quarter :thumbsup.

Would be great to listen via the net, the American accents and Ice Hockey people can go jump.
Wont be trying to listen to that radio station again. :banghead

Fair enough too.
Madness how a certain mod from another site filters a website name out. :P
-
Coburg 6 goals up.
-
How's Connors & Collins playing Cyclops?
-
They were fairly quiet in the first half Magic. I'll ask WP.

Wont be trying to listen to that radio station again. :banghead
Sadly 3XX have had problems other Sundays too. I still think they are trying to figure out why it's happening.
-
Coburg 132
Bendigo 94
Burgers are home :gotigers.
-
I suppose if people email about the troubles they had listening in/ feed etc., they might get an idea of how many people actually listen via the net if they are not in range of the radio
:)
Go Burgers ! Well done.
-
Cindy Lauper also got a run this afternoon on the station. 2nd, it was a good win by Coburg, 3rd itll be intersting to see who got in bests this week.
-
The radio was down too MT not just the net. Still you're right it's a good idea to contact them so they realise how popular they've become in terms of commentating VFL games.
The other problem they have is the ice hockey puts money into the station whereas the VFL doesn't put in a single penny. So obviously for financial reasons the ice hockey comes first too.
-
Coburg won by 51 points.
Coburg 3.1 7.6 15.9 22.13 (145)
Bendigo 3.5 8.8 10.14 13.16 (94)

It will be good to know if Rance, Morton and Hughes went ok and what there performance was like this afternoon.
From WP:
Rance ok. First half struggled. Ok in 2nd half.
Morton - conversion let him down.
Hughes - played fwd and back. Not his best game but kept working
-
Collins good.
Connors ok. Off the boil a bit
Thanks to WP :cheers
Ta OE & WP. :thumbsup
-
Does anybody know how young Rhett Jordon did in the reserves (no 50 I think)
:cheers
-
Shame the radio coverage died in the second half when Coburg finally kicked into gear. 15.7 to 5.8 is a thumping. Burgers only % outside the top 4.
Polak was goalless to half-time so he kicked those 4 goals in the second half. Looks like he finally held his nerve and decided to take the responsibility to go for goal instead of passing it off which is what he did in the first half and has done in recent weeks.
Tivs kicked another 3. Another 30+ possession game to show he is too good for this level but not up to AFL either based on his career.
Does anybody know how young Rhett Jordon did in the reserves (no 50 I think)
:cheers
Jordan kicked 3 goals and wears #64.
-
Is Connors worthy of promotion?
-
Is Connors worthy of promotion?
Doesnt sound like it.
Will save Jake King imo. No other back pocket pressuring his position.
-
I thought Dean Polo was very good today off the HBF - got high praise at the after match
Ditto Polak - I think the said he took 14 or 15 marks
Shelton given BOG - but of the Burger boys I was super impressed with Nick Carnell
-
I forgot about polo. :o
He would be putting pressure on King by the sounds of it. :(
-
For those that went yesterday how was Polo's disposal? It sounded average in the first half going by the radio commentary.
Is Connors worthy of promotion?
No preseason means the year as far as playing (regular) seniors is a write-off (not the superclass of a Cotchin obviously). I can only see him playing seniors this year late in the season and only if we're out of finals contention and giving everyone a game or we suddenly cop a heap of injuries. He needs to focus more on doing the basics well. We know he can do the freakish stuff.

I rate Connors quite highly. He does not lack class what so ever.

Number 64 actually :thumbsup
Rhett did well yesterday in the time he was on the ground. Took some nice marks and kicked well for goal.
Collard played most of the game on the wing and was ok, still developing in the role but he needs to improve his workrate to make it.
Dave Gourdis was ok but the ball didnt go down back a great deal, especially in the second half.
Putty was ok while Meyer hit the packs hard and gave plenty of drive playing off half back and pushing up into the midfield also.
The seniors game was very scrappy especially in the first half.
Polak presented well all day and had about 15 marks. Morton wont be promoted on his performance.
I would think Polo would be the one who may step up into the seniors if a spot opened up.
Conners did something to his shoulder and am not sure how he will pull up.
There is no VFL this week so it will give him time to recover for the game against Werribee.

Nice young man young Rhett (and yes he was named after Rhett Butler)
I hope he makes it.
Thanks for the info, do you know approx how long he was on the field?
:cheers

Hi Guys.
On behalf of 1611 AM I want to apologize for the drop-out during Sunday's Broadcast of the Coburg & Bendigo game.
We've had some tech problems the last 3 Sundays and to make it worse last Sunday we had our normal tech working for SEN that day and our Saturday Tech/Jack of all trades wasn't at Coburg for the 2nd half, having to set up for the Ice Hockey for it's 4.35pm broadcast.
As Murphy's law would have it, when he wasn't at Coburg we went off air and the Callers were not aware of the problem or did not know how to fix it.
I know myself how to fix it, but I'm only with the Saturday team, not the Sunday team - it's a behind the scene political thing.
However we also had a major malfunction on Saturday - that however has been fixed during the week.
Anyway we are lucky this week as we don't have to call, with 1611 AM taking the 5RPH feed for the State Game.
Mind you, though we are an amateur station we should never allow this happen.
Though I'm only a caller/producer of the Saturday call, I offer my apologies for these non-broadcasts, and hope we can offer you a more professional broadcast in the future.
Peter Holden
(on behalf of 1611 AM 3XX)
(P.S. If anyone knowns someone that would want to do a $14,000 long term sponsor deal so we can get CODECS for a better delay free broadcast, I'd love to meeet them!!!)
-
Your calls are appreciated, 1611. :)
Hope the gremlins leave you alone from now on.
As for the cash, have you tried the Tasmanian government? 8)
You'd have to call 4 games a year there, give your members the finger and change your name to 3 double Tassie but you'd get the dollars.

Wouldn't want to go down that path...

Going backwards IMO.

Match Report Vs. Bendigo
coburgtigers.com.au
The Tigers were back at home this week as they took on the Bendigo Bombers on Sunday in front of a large crowd at ABD Stadium. The Burger boys were aiming for their fourth straight victory, while the Bombers were also confident of a win with a couple of key Essendon players lining up.
After a tight but entertaining first half Coburg really got on top and kicked 14 goals to 5 in the second half to run out comfortable 51 point winners.
Fort Caruso played what was definitely his best game for the season so far as he helped himself to four goals. Not only that, but his pressure in the forward 50m was immense and created Bendigo turnovers that lead to more Burger goals.
Graham Polak was Coburg’s leading forward on the ground as he brought down 14 telling marks, many of them contested, and converted four goals.
Good defensive pressure by the Coburg backs forced Bendigo to be offline in the first term and lead by only a handful of points at the first break.
¼ Time: Coburg 3.1 (19) Bendigo 3.5 (23)
Greg Tivendale has been in electric form this season and would be heading the Burgers best and fairest count at this stage of the season. He was again instrumental playing through the midfield and across half forward. Tivendale finished the match with 33 pin point possessions and a match high five goals.
In a fairly even second quarter Bendigo kicked five majors to Coburg’s four, and led by a slender eight point margin at half time.
½ Time: Coburg 7.6 (48) Bendigo 8.8 (56)
Coburg came out flying in the third quarter as they piled on eight goals to Bendigo’s two. The way the ball was delivered to the forwards was a delight for the home side to watch. Daniel Jackson was a standout in the second half and collected a lot of possessions through the middle of the ground, finishing the match with a season high 28 touches.
Coburg’s stalwarts; Captain Paul Shelton and key midfielder Nick Carnell, were again amongst the Burgers best, controlling the stoppages around the ground and using the ball very effectively. Coburg seemed to be in control of the game heading into the final change, leading by just over four goals.
¾ Time: Coburg 15.9 (99) Bendigo 10.14 (74)
The last term has been the Burgers bogey quarter in a few games this year, but it certainly wasn’t the case on Sunday as the Burgers powered home another seven goals elevating them to a healthy 51 point margin when the final siren sounded. Mitch Morton and Nat Caruso both added a couple of goals each, while Dean Polo also stood out and won his position well.
Coburg now sit in fifth spot on the ladder with five wins and face Werribee on Sunday week at Bartercard oval looking for their fifth straight victory.
Coburg Tigers 3.1 7.6 15.9 22.13 (145)
Bendigo Bombers 3.5 8.8 10.14 13.16 (94)
Goal Kickers: G. Tivendale 5, F. Caruso 4, G. Polak 4, N. Caruso 2, M. Morton 2, C. Howat, N. Lynch, N. Carnell, P. Shelton, L. McGuane
Best Players: G. Polak, F. Caruso, G. Tivendale, P. Shelton, N. Carnell, D. Polo
RESERVES
The Reserves amassed an incredible 62 scoring shots to Bendigo’s measly 10 on Sunday, clearly a season high that is unlikely to be beaten. After an extremely inaccurate 8 goals 19 behinds in the first half, the Burgers opened the flood gates in the second half blazing through an amazing 22 goals to win by 167 points.
Shaun Huy, Cathal Corr and Damien Rayson were Coburg’s best, while Jake De Sousa and Clayton Collard kicked 9 goals between them.
Coburg Tigers 6.9 8.19 18.27 30.32 (212)
Bendigo Bombers 2.0 6.2 6.3 7.3 (45)
Goal Kickers: J. De Sousa 5, C. Collard 4, T. Dulic 3, D. Rayson 3, R. Jordan 3, B. Clifton 3, P. Currie 2, G. Carrick 2, C. Corr, D. Meyer, D. Putt, N. Cattapan, J. Jones
Best Players: S. Huy, C. Corr, D. Rayson, B. Clifton, D. Meyer, W. Smith

I didn't say Daniel lacked class. He just isn't in the superclass level that Cotchin is. I remember talking to one of the Richmond trainers preseason and I said we most likely won't see Cotch much in the seniors this year because he hasn't had any preseason. The trainer said to me it won't matter with Cotchin. He's so good it's still worth playing him off the bench in 5-10 minute spells. Connors on the other hand needs a full preseason and to be match fit so he has the necessary workrate to play seniors.

Conners did something to his shoulder and am not sure how he will pull up.
Rawlings says it is only a minor shoulder injury in EOTT. McGuane also got crunched heavily early on but like Connors played on through it.
