Your initial thoughts about Saturday night?
We'll probably go into the game favourites for the first time in a long long while.
-
There should be no reason for a drop off intensity, it's a game we're expected to win and should win.
The last few weeks have shown the guys how hard you have to work to just be competitive, let alone get a win.
Big stage, big crowd, there are some positive words being written about our youngsters for the first time in a while, time to show everyone what we've got.
-
Richmond $1.38
Essendon $2.90
Essendon Under 39.5 Pts $3.60
Essendon Over 39.5 Pts $13.00
Draw $51.00
Richmond Under 39.5 Pts $2.15
Richmond Over 39.5 Pts $3.25

This match is huge. We MUST come in with the same attitude that we have over the last 4-5 rounds
-
For some reason i have a bad feeling about this week, maybe its just what has happened in the past that makes me feel that way.
I hate Essendon with a passion so i hope that we flog them, just hope that we can get back to our form of previous weeks and that of the first half against Geelong and smash the Bombers.
Richo could be set for a huge one this week!!!

We do this we win by 10 goals +, we dont and the last month and a half is wasted and back to :banghead
My money is on a big margin 'literally' :thumbsup
-
They get Watson, McPhee and Lovett-Murray back this week (not stars but moreso mature bodies) so it won't be as easy as it was for the Swans after half-time. I'd be very happy with a win of any sort just to build on the improvement since the Freo game. If you go out trying to win by 10+ goals and play like millionaires you can fall on your backside. The defensive discipline, teamwork and intensity of the past 5 weeks needs to be backed up and matched. The scoreboard will then take care of itself.
If we can get off to a strong start then their confidence levels will more than likely fall away. Once they've fallen behind by 4 goals this year they have fallen away pretty meekly after half-time.

havent missed a game all year and im not going to start now.
after getting rediculed last year by about 20 essendon supporters sitting next to me, its pay back time..
For me the bombers are not far behind the blues in my hatred ladder..
They will set themselves up for this game, make no kistake..Knighter will want this one so badly, probabaly more so than any other team they play this year..
Not going to be busy but i think come 11pm saturday night if the tigers are growing up or simply the last month was a waste..
-
You're right daniel about Knighter.
-------------------------
Bombers coach and former Tigers player Matthew Knights, said that coaching against his old side gave him added motivation.
“I’ve always been proud to be a Richmond player and a Richmond captain. When I first arrived at the club the great Kevin Bartlett and Neville Crow were standing out on Punt Road shaking tins trying to keep the club alive ... so I’m proud, but knowing that, this week it’s game on,” he said.
Knights said that Matthew Richardson’s recent good form would prove a challenge for his boys and that he would consider giving Nathan Lovett-Murray the job on the tall forward.
“He (Richo) is a pretty decent athlete so we’re going to have a player who can go with him on the run and is capable in the air,” he said.
The Bombers’ injury crisis continues with Scott Lucas, Damien Peverill and Scott Gumbleton still out of the side injured. Midfielder Jobe Watson is also likely to sit out Saturday’s match, with Knight’s saying Watson would have to "sparkle" at training today to be selected.

This game should be a ripper. Both sides like to run and carry the ball it should make a fast paced game. Skills may not be perfect but it will be the game of the week. Close for three quarters then the tigs to kick 7 in the last to win by 35+. :thumbsup

A repeat of round 21 last year year WA :thumbsup

Essendon and Richmond players will link arms pre-match in a symbolic gesture under a new indigenous initiative encouraging men to stand up against violence towards women and children.
Richmond wingman Phil Egan, who played 125 games for the Tigers and mentors players including Richard Tambling, said the concept game continued to gain momentum.
He has in the past spoken of the racism he encountered at AFL level, and says the eradication of racism has been the catalyst for the new wave of indigenous players.
"Too many drop out at 16 or 17 (in country areas) because of the issues of cultural difference and racism, whereas in the AFL they don't. It's terrible, its really, really terrible."

Tigers confident of AFL breakthrough
May 23, 2008 - 2:30PM
After a month of impressing against top sides, but failing to scrape over the line, Richmond midfielder Richard Tambling says the Tigers are confident of finally breaking through for a win against struggling Essendon on Saturday night.
Richmond's past four results have been a draw with the unbeaten Western Bulldogs, a 12-point loss to unbeaten Hawthorn, a three-point loss to St Kilda and a 30-point loss to unbeaten Geelong, after leading at half-time.
"We've been coming close to the top teams in recent weeks and this is one that we're expected to win," Tambling said of the MCG clash.
"So it's good to be able to get out there in the Dreamtime game and try to get a win up."
Tambling said the run of close shaves had not sapped the club of any confidence in their ability to clinch a match.
"The morale at the club at the moment is amazing, as (it was) last year," he said.
"We didn't have a good year last year but the morale was excellent.
"We've got the same bunch of blokes here now and we're all upbeat and we know we're playing some good footy, so if we can keep doing it this weekend it would be good.
"We're just going to go out there and try to play the footy we have been for the past month and hopefully (the result) will take care of itself."
The match will be the fourth Dreamtime at the G encounter between the two clubs, a concept designed to celebrate the contribution of the indigenous community to the AFL.
As one of two indigenous players in the Richmond side for the game, along with Shane Edwards, Tambling said he would relish the spotlight of the occasion.
"It's all eyes on you and you sort of stand out a bit and it gives you that bit of confidence (to show some) flair," he said.
He said for the club as a whole it was one of their most significant games.
"This is one of those matches where it's pretty big for Richmond and pretty big for the people that it represents," he said.

Stephen Fletcher of Sportingbet Australia said it was not a round to inspire confidence in bookies, with plenty of shorties and most of them appearing good things.
But Fletcher drew the line at including Richmond among the good things.
"Richmond are $1.40 (with us), I repeat $1.40. This isn't a misprint. I know the Bombers are woeful at the minute, but whenever the Tigers are in the 'red', it's your duty to bet against them," Fletcher said.

Wounded Tigers keep faith: Tambling
Nick Sheridan | May 24, 2008
FOR those Tiger fans who view football in lifetimes, rather than mere seasons, tonight's Dreamtime match represents the perfect opportunity to heal the wound left by the Bombers' improbable eight-point victory in the same match last year.
They would remember a patched-up Matthew Richardson raising his arms in triumph after kicking what appeared to be the match-winning goal … and the events that followed, when the goal was disallowed due to a zealous application of the hands-in-the-back rule, a 50-metre penalty for playing on, which effectively gave the Bombers a goal, and the game.
For young Tiger Richard Tambling, tonight's match is indeed about atonement, but not for a match swayed by a single contentious decision almost 12 months ago.
The Tigers are seeking redemption for a string of near misses over the past month that have pushed them out of the top eight, despite showing some very impressive form.
"We've been coming close to the top teams in recent weeks and this is one that we're expected to win," he said after training yesterday.
Tambling said the Tigers remained upbeat despite their recent inability to get a win on the board.
"The morale at the club at the moment is amazing, as (it was) last year," he said.
Tambling said there was a strong faith among the playing group that if they persisted with their good work, the results would come.

Well done Axel! :clapping
I think they all realised the second half was ordinary. Axel made two mistakes in the last quarter which might have been on his mind - got the tap from Simmo but handballed backwards to no one which resulted in a bombers goal and then at the very next bounce got the tap from Simmo and just slipped over.
