Title: Tigers vs Crows
Post by: one-eyed on June 02, 2008, 09:28:28 PM
Brett Burton has copped 2 weeks from the match review committee so he's out as he's pleading guilty.

Quote
Adelaide's Brett Burton and West Coast's Beau Waters were both cited during the panel's review and offered two-game bans, while Western Bulldog Robert Murphy was reported on Saturday and offered a one-game penalty.

The Crows have already indicated Burton will plead guilty to making forceful contact from front-on against Essendon's Henry Slattery last Friday night at AAMI Stadium in contact the panel deemed as reckless, of low impact and high contact.

Burton's deserved 2 weeks.  You cant do that.

Murphy and Beau Waters on other hand should have got off.
Title: Bock backed to stop Richo (Adelaide Addy)

Bock backed to stop Richo
Adelaide Advertiser
By Andrew Capel
June 03, 2008

NATHAN Bock has been anointed as the Adelaide defender to stop Richmond gamebreaker Matthew Richardson at the MCG on Saturday.

Teammate Jason Porplyzia says Bock - the early favourite for All-Australian centre half-back honours this season - is one of the few Crows capable of physically matching the veteran Tigers phenomenon who, at age 33, is having a career-best year.

Master goalkicker Richardson, who has booted 770 goals in 16 seasons, has been given freedom to run up the ground this year, making him one of the toughest players in the AFL to match up on.

Once a stay-at-home full-forward, Richardson has responded magnificently, averaging a super-impressive 19 disposals, 11 marks and nearly three goals a game to spearhead an improved Tigers outfit and make him one of the Brownlow Medal fancies.

His statistical averages are up a significant six possessions and four marks on his career totals.

Belying his age, Richardson has roamed far and wide, often lining up on a wing and gaining possessions deep in defence. For a player of his size (195cm and 104kg), his endurance is amazing and has left several opponents in his wake.

"Richo's been one of the really strong key position performers this year," Porplyzia said. "Certainly whoever gets him is going to be in for a big day."

Bock is that man, according to Porplyzia.

"I think Nathan Bock would be a good choice," he said. "He's been in great form and he's got that running capability to go with Richo when he moves up the ground. It will be a tough challenge but I think he can do it."

Richardson has looked as powerful as a laboratory monster this season, taking more marks (114) than any other player in the competition. He also has taken the equal-most contested marks (29) - along with Hawthorn superstar Lance Franklin - and kicked 27 goals.

Richardson looms as the biggest threat to Adelaide winning outside SA for just the second time this year. Of their previous travelling assignments - against the Bulldogs at Telstra Dome, Hawthorn in Tasmania, Carlton at the MCG and West Coast at Subiaco - the Crows have won just one, against the Blues in round six.

"We haven't travelled too well this year, so it's a good chance for us to turn that around," Porplyzia said.

At home, Adelaide boasts a 100 percent record, winning six from six.

One key Tiger the Crows won't have to worry about on Saturday is skipper Kane Johnson, who injured a knee in Sunday's 82-point thumping at the hands of Sydney.

Scans yesterday revealed he has a slight medial ligament strain, ruling him out for three to four weeks. Porplyzia said the 3-6-1 Tigers were better than they showed at the SCG.

"They would obviously be disappointed with their performance (against the Swans) but they are an up-and-coming side which has been playing some good footy," he said.

"And they'll want to bounce back in front of their home crowd, so it's a big challenge for us."

Porplyzia said the 7-3 Crows, who have kicked an awful 14.37 in their past two games, would work on their goalkicking this week - "it's certainly not good enough," he said - but saw plenty of room for improvement across the board.

"We're still a developing side," he said.

The six Crows who represented the Dream Team against Victoria (Bock, Ben Rutten, Brett Burton, Simon Goodwin, Andrew McLeod and Graham Johncock), as well as veterans Tyson Edwards and Michael Doughty, have been given a few days off to recharge their batteries. They are due back for training on Wednesday.

l have watched Adelaide the last few weeks play crap football & lucky to get over the line last Friday night against Essendon
if we cant beat the crap out of this team on the MCG this Saturday with Burton out then l'm sure the poo will hit the fan at Tigerland
There are no more excuses anymore,  Johnson is out  so this brings in a faster player Tivendale  :lol  ;D
Burton out takes some flash out of thier forwardline & lessen thier chances at scoring

surely we can take this game by the horns, but wait Terry Wallace is coaching us. His matchups will tell a story if they plan on Tanking

Burton, Macleod and Proplyzia seem to be the crucial players in the Crows line-up that the rest revolve around. Clubs in recent weeks have targetted shutting down these 3 and it's seen the Crows struggle to score. Thompson and Goodwin have also been in good form. They got the Crows across the line against the Bombers.

Before Sunday I was feeling pretty good we beat them this week. As you say TM they played crap footy against the Dons and they got smashed by the bottom 4 Eagles. The first 5-10 minutes is going to say a lot about our mindset. Come out firing physically and mentally determined to make amends for last week and I'll start to feel more confident again. Come out deflated and sorry for ourselves and it'll be same old flogging. We're going to have to win the contested footy as the Crows footskills in space will cut us open if allowed a free reign. They've beaten us 9 out of the last 10 times (the one being that keeping offs game) so we owe them too.

A quirky Round 11 stat...

Once more with feeling
Geoff McClure

WONDER if Richmond can make it three in a row in its round-11 match against Adelaide this weekend. We refer to its final score — for its past two round-11 matches have seen the Tigers score 15.12 (102) against Fremantle in 2007 and 15.12 (102) against North Melbourne in 2006.

9:55 AM Fri 06 June, 2008

Due to the impending redevelopment of the Richmond social club, all Richmond Social Club members will be able to access the Yarra Park Room for pre-match, during and post-match at all home games held at the MCG.

After Saturday's match against the Crows, Tigers midfielder Matt White and List and Strategy Manager Craig Cameron will review the match.

The Yarra Park room is located on Level 3 of the Olympic Stand and is a terrific and convenient venue for all Social Club members, who can access this room from when the gates open until 90 minutes after the game.

For any questions, please contact the Membership Department on 1300 136 605.

Andrew Maher was going on this morning that tomorrow's game for Richmond is a non-negotiable win for us with Burton out for the Crows. We must win to show we have genuinely improved this year. If we don't win then after losing 4 of our past 5 games it'll all mean zilch.

I know Sugar is maligned on here and some may be glad he's out of the side but in terms of the side's midfield structure he is a significant loss at this stage of where we are at. It'll put more pressure and workload on Axel in the contested footy.

yep and i am one of those guys.
id rather lose without him in the team, then with him playing.

we MUST move forward without him.

You got to remember since he has been at Punt road we have gone from bad to worse so without saying its totally his fault, because it isn't, however it doesn't help when you have got a captain as depleted and socially uncordinated as he is.

he has played well in some games this year but really where is he going to take us. Best we offload him asap for the benefit of the team, like the hawks did with Richi and the blues did with Lance.

Disgraceful second half. Sorry but I'm joining the bandwagon in thinking Jordy McMahon needs to spend some time in Coburg.

This isnt now just about McMahon, I posted a while back that when Pettifer, Bowden, Tivendale and co. play together- we cant win. The mix becomes a bad mix. Thats not to say they are bad players- just that they cant help us further. They should all be let go along with the likes of Tuck and Hyde and afew others. We need early picks.

Bowden is still worth his place imho.

The game in the stuff line is now umpired very close to netball.

Kingy admits we froze once again when challenged....

They've got a lot of good players – they're pretty good all over the ground. They're solid up back, up forward they can throw blokes around – (Luke) Jericho kicked five, I think.

"Like everyone knows, you can hold a good side for so long, but they're going to turn it on eventually. It just depended on how much we wanted it, and it wasn't enough.

"We came out after half-time and they just hit us pretty hard and we were like a rabbit in the spotlight – we just froze."

If he has actually said that, he shouldnt have a job at an AFL Club, complete load of rubbish.
Our demise might have something to do with constant SHORT kicks in the 2nd half, combined with forward structure that was hopeless with 2 or 3 team mates going for the same balll inside F 50 instead of spreading and causing one on one contests inisde F 50
Might have also something to do with on ballers standing back an extra metres from the drop of the ball at stoppages ( where were you Brian Royal  lol)  RULE 1.onballers must be at the drop of the ball, noticed Richard Tambling standing as far back at 3 metres at centre bounce.
He has no idea the poor kid and wont have ,being coached by imbeciles.

Not sure you read the article correctly Jack?  It was Jake King who made the statement, not David King.  To me it is an entirely appropriate summation of what happened.  The factors that led to it include what you point out but the statement is true - we did freeze like a rabbit in a spotlight.
