Title: Time for Serious Trading!
Post by: PuntRdRoar on August 24, 2004, 01:23:01 PM
Its time for serious trading..and im not talking about our early picks...last year Geelong offered up pick 20 or 21 for Ray Hall, I think Richmond should put Hall back onto the marketplace and see if Geelong or Sydney want to make another bid; Aaron Fiora should be put onto the market also...hes a Port Adelaide boy and Steve Salopek hasnt set the world on fire a direct swap would be in our interests or a draft pick if he wants to go home, MArk Chaffey is someone who would be worth something...Personally Ive always felt Mark Chaffey is overated and should be traded, Matthew Richardson isnt probablytradeable and wont be put up but if Lynch retires at Brisbane...maybe theyd be prepared to put up a Jaryd Brennan and a pick for Richo, Brad Ottens....what can I say...people are saying everywhere he wants to go home...the crows offered up 2 first rounders for carey...so Otto is worth 2 first rounders plus a little more and my information is that Richmond will heavily chase another 2 top 10 draft picks...Miller wants 4 top 10s according to my information, Darren Gaspar is a big problem...his performance since returning has been abysmal...hes salary a noose around our clubs neck...plenty of scenarios abound...the information is that West Coast wants an experienced defender...i dont know what they would give up...but Id want a player like Staker or a first round pick...especially if we have to stuff out half his salary...and thats about $250,000; another player who hasnt lived up to expectations is Greg Tivendale...he will probably survive because Wallace likes players like Tivendale...but for me he is a disappointing player...one player i dont expect to be at Richmond next year is Greg Stafford...at $400,000 a year we need to clear some salary cap space, hes contract runs out and thats $400,000 we dont have to pay out to someone who only plays 10 games a season or approx $40,000 a game...Id love to run thru afew more...Im sure Jacko and afew others could fill you in somemore about waht ive written...Later Guys!

With Richo eligible for the veterans list next season - I reckon he is safe.

I'd trade away a few left footer: in this order

Fiora
Chaffey
Hall

I'd trade Gaspar if we can but I don't like our chances so we might be stuck with him.

And does anyone know anything about that kid Harris at the Bulldogs - I read (probably here :P) that the tigers might me interested.

Only problem with Harris is that the dogs might want to play ""hard ball"" over the Nathan Brown leaving ;)

Problems:

No CHF...unless it's Ottens.
If it's otto then we have two ruckmen: Staff 31, marsh 29.
No young ruckmen.
Oldies next year are:

Cambo 33
Staff   31
richo 30
andy kellaway 30
gaspar 29
marsh 29
Blumfield 28
Chaffey 28

Chaffey 28

Fingers crossed both gone

I dont think Staff is on that much a year at Tigerland......and I think he should be kept. We need him bc he has a bit of juice in him. With Ottens, Hall and Marsh as your other ruckmen, you must be fighting tooth and nail to keep Staff.

Will be interesting what happens to Ottens, will probably bend to the $$$$$$ and end up in the Black and White

jack.

But they have got nothing to give?

I'd take Cole and their first draft pick but even then we are getting screwed.

I agree om21, especially if Ottens goes. Hall aint no ruckman and Marsh was drafted solely for the situation we find ourselves in now.

But I still reckon we have to draft a young ruckman.

jack knows more than what hes letting on...as i said before if adelaide is prepared to give 2 top 10s for carey than Otto is worth 2 top 10s and a player or 2 players and a top 10..nett position.

PS- to OM21...Im not privvy to player salaries but the figure of $425,000 for stafford has been published somewhere in the past 6 months...it may or may not be true...but thats what was published.

Start with

Fiora
kellaway
gaspar
marsh
Blumfield
Chaffey

Ottens is a better option than Marsh obviously so lets keep him and see how he develops under a coach.

But I still reckon we have to draft a young ruckman.

times two.
the first one has to be in the second round I'd think.

I posted this on BF a month or so ago - I'd trade Fiora for Jaymar in a heartbeat. A win win for both teams IMHO

@blaisee...please tell me your joking....Cole and a pick for Ottens. Cole? That waste of space....Ha! At least you put the smile on my face.

@TigersRoar...damn, I hope its not true, that is a hell of a lot of money for Staff. A hell of a lot.

Tiger fans out there should be weary of gutting our the team.
Its seems as though a lot of people are walking around with a constant boner because we're high draft picks.
List management is more critical than getting gun players - We got Browny but our team isnt any better.
Talk of trading Otto, Richo etc is a bit extreme. Otto's problem has been poor management - the guy doesnt know what his role is gonna be from week to week.

I agree entirely Cain that Otto's problem has been poor management. For crying out loud - no ruck coach at the club and we had Stewie Loewe before that (what a professional footy club we are  ::) ) plus larry, mo and curly scratching their collective heads in the coaches box trying to come up with one centre square set-up that actually works  :banghead. They wouldn't be able to come up with a gameplan if the bible of 21st century football strategy landed on their laps. Frawley had been coaching for 4 years and what was his one and only new idea for 2004 - plonk Richo at FF and we kick it to him  :sleep  :help.

It's going to take 3-4 years to completely rebuild our list. Let us not try and do it in one swipe. We have two picks in the top 4 of the draft plus pick 20 plus first pick in the PSD. A pretty good start for any new coach. We'll most likely see a similar selection next year. Otto, Cogs and Brown are untouchables as far as I'm concerned.

Tivs would be the player that I would trade. Valuable yet easily replaceable, him being a flanker/wingman compared to a key position or inside midfielder.

TR who ever told you Staff is on that sort of money should be drug tested. Just do the sums - Richo, Brown, Gas, Campbell, Ottens, Johnson et al....we'd be so far over the salary cap it wouldn't be funny!
