Can RFC please appoint a decent tackling coach, when we have a player who should be absolutely nailed we seem to constantly give away the free kick either too high or in the back. We should be training these players to tackle but not give these easy kicks away. When roles are reversed how many times do we get tackled when one on one and receive similar free kicks, not often, 99 times out of 100 pinged for holding the ball? McGuane is one player who needs to address his over aggressiveness and learn the correct technique to gain a free kick not attempting to remove heads from necks. The problem is that doing this inside 50 is gifting goals to the opposition, Foley is another who needs to address this in his game as well.

We are meant to be learning from the Melbourne Storm but they would be very embarassed by our level of tackling.

yep the last two preseasons tackling duties have been taken by the Storm.
i must say it has improved since they took over.
i also agree that its not at the level it should be YET but i think as the bodies mature you will see the teachings come into play.
at the beginning of the season i could see a definate improvement in defensive pressure and tackling from previous seasons and i expect steady improvement for a few more seasons yet.
i wouldnt worry too much.
its one thing to teach correct tackling skills (which i think the storm are doing) and its another to have the cattle to apply it.
the fact that this is the second preseason in succession that Kearnsy and the boys have been utilized is great becasue the kids are being taught effective tackling skills from day one and are having it reinforced each preseason giving them every chance of making these crucial skills second nature.
being a hardcore Parramatta Eels man for nearly 40years i can enviously say theres no better than Melbourne Storm at defensive technique.
nothing like abit of "neighbourly" love with the Storm :thumbsup

IMO our tackling good/bad is just an extension of the intensity and endeavour of the side at any point during a game. Our intensity goes up and down like a yo-yo from quarter to quarter. In the second quarter Melbourne couldn't get the ball past the centre and were shellshocked by our pressure and tackling at every stoppage and contest. When we went to sleep and stopped pressurising as a team then Melbourne first got a break in the first quarter and then came back into the game after half-time. Same with Adelaide the week before expect the Crows had the class and skills to make us pay dearly after time.

It's all the Storm's fault
Gotta remember that in Rugby head high tackles most of the time go unnoticed :rollin

That might be true for rugby but in league they are hot on head high tackles. Further, a head high tackle doesn't do the job as you can still offload - the body is a better target.

lmao @ any tackling in the afl.
I love footy but forget about implementing the ferocity
or NRL tackling to our game.
Different mindset altogether.
Unless the boys spend their pre season actually playing NRL
against the storm it's a waste of time.
Our game is just soft as butter in comparison and only stands to become worse
with the comtinual interference from the malakas that molest the afl system

I was actually talking about league - not interested in union. But true they seem to be hot on it at the moment but I still reckon they miss some of them, especially when the tackler hits from behind rather than front on. Although in league (& correct me if I am wrong) if a tackle starts legitimate and as a player goes to ground it then goes over the shoulder then they don't apply a penalty as opposed to the AFL they do
The other night I was watching the Cronulla game and the ref missed a few high ones IMO. What they are really hot is the grapple tackle - although i reckon there is an arguement for a lack of consistency on that one too

Hey Lozza,
can YOU lay anything other than a clumsy tackle at your local level?
You wouldn't be able to get anywhere the man with footy at AFL level, let alone lay a skillful tackle.
Get off these blokes back mate. The pace of the modern game means that lots of tackling errors, and others, will be made.
I would rather see our Mighty Tigers rip the bloody head off the opposition in a deliberate high tackle than give away a soft free kick for an accidental high tackle.
Of course if the opposition player comes from Tassie, then I would be glad to see us rip their bloody HEADS off. :rollin

Thats the problem Ekto, this isnt local club level, these guys are highly paid professionals who should be completing "the perfect tackle" more often than not...other teams do it why cant we?
