Good ol' Spud handing out advice again in the Age that he didn't do as a coach :wallywink
"... the last thing you need is his [Fev's] hands attracting the ball like huge magnets every time he leads," says Danny Frawley.
"As good as Lockett and Ablett were — and they were two of the greatest forwards of all time — they never played in a premiership, and it was because of their dominance."
Frawley sees this as the next phase of Brett Ratten's coaching career — how to bring on the likes of Matthew Kreuzer, Adam Hartlett and Shaun Hampson to provide that second and third target, benefiting all by spreading the load. "So they can tell Brendan, 'We still need you to have an impact, but if we need you to kick seven and eight we're going to be in trouble … the reason why we win will be the reason why we lose'."
Richmond was keeping its Fevola plans to itself yesterday, but Frawley did not need an intimate knowledge of Punt Road to speculate on what they are. "Terry Wallace will have a plan in place on his whiteboard which will be, 'Let's negate Judd's influence, and on top of that, let's double or triple-team Fevola when the ball's in the air'.
"It's like going to the casino — you've got to play the odds. Where's the ball going to? It's going to Fevola."

I seem to remember Ablett playing in a premierships in 1989. Geelong just didn't win. Or am I remembering incorrectly?
I think it is unfair to blame Ablett and Lockett for their teams lack of ultimate success. Scary to witness the thought processes of our ex coach. :-\

And didn't Lockett also play in a losing GF for Sydney v North in '96?
Is he blaming Ablett and Lockett for these losses?

Spud loaths Richmond now. He has nothing but contempt for the club he once coached to one of its lowest points in history. He still feels bitter about the way he was replaced and is reluctant to absorb any of the blame for the situations we were in then and the situation we are in now.
If you listen to him on TripleM his veiled hatred is obvious.
I can't stand the bloke for what he did to the club. The fact that he is now coming up with these marvelous insights now after making the same mistakes himself for years is laughable.
He trully is a Spud. ::)

If he said it deliberately to make a joke then it would be funny. To know that he wouldn't be that clever and said it in all seriousness takes the hilarious-o-meter to a whole new level! :lol :scream :lol
