Mark Coughlan ready for return
Mark Stevens | July 01, 2008
MARK Coughlan is on track to finally make his return to football this weekend.
Richmond coach Terry Wallace last night confirmed the midfielder was on the brink of playing for the Tigers' VFL affiliate Coburg.
"I think he'll play this week," Wallace said.
"If he gets through training this week, he should be OK to go against Box Hill on Sunday."
It will be an anxious time for all at Punt Rd given one more serious mishap would cast grave doubts on Coughlan's football future.
Coughlan, a victim of two knee reconstructions, has not played at AFL level since Round 12, 2006.
But his hamstrings now pose a greater threat.
The 2003 Richmond best-and-fairest winner tore a hamstring at training in mid-May.
It came after another hamstring injury during the NAB Cup that delayed his start to the season.
Coughlan later travelled to Germany for intensive treatment, enduring 102 injections over 12 days in a visit to the clinic of Dr Hans-Wilhelm Mueller-Wohlfarth.
On his return, Coughlan said he hoped to play by June, but Richmond decided to take an extremely conservative approach.
"He might have been able to play a couple of weeks ago," Wallace said.
"We thought it was better off getting four weeks of training into him rather than throwing him back out into it."

Gourdis
Casserley Coughlan Collard
Putt
-
Yes, i would say that is the strongest line up the Reserves have had all year.
A very hard on ball line up there also with Corr, Nat Caruso and Cogs. All these 3 players are as tough as nails!!!
-
Nat Caruso playing 2,s at Coburg , ummmmmmmmmmmmmm ::)
-
Howat only player a qtr last week so he may be under a cloud, MT have you seen him training?
-
Nat Caruso playing 2,s at Coburg , ummmmmmmmmmmmmm ::)
Is "ummmmmmmmmmmmmm" your new favourite saying ??? It seems to have replaced FACT :sleep :help ;D
-
Is Nat or Fort playing seniors?
Kind of pointless Putt being named in both line-ups when you know from the both team sheets that Gus, Keogh, Carnell and Carrick are on the seniors bench.
Stronger onball division this week but Coburg's forward line is still ordinary. I can't see Connors playing FF at 184cm ???.
I see Polo and King are playing. The club must have got permission for them to play.
Howat only player a qtr last week so he may be under a cloud, MT have you seen him training?
I didn't see Cam at training on Wednesday. Maybe there'll be a late change.
-

Putt seems to be doing some nice work with the coburg 2s. Getting in the bests pretty often.
-
They asked -
Has Sylvester played for Richmond this year ?(apart from the NAB Cup) Ummm he is a rookie !!!! :banghead
Has Meyer played for Richmond this year ? Answer - 1 or 2. Nup wrong again.

They are trying to take off Rex. Fat lady and all.

Commentators liked that quarter: King, JON down back, Petts. Silvester, Collins and Carrick. Big bodies in the ruck (Cartledge and Graham) having a major influence.

Box Hill are a bad team.
We need to run them into the ground.
Win by 50+ for a good percentage boost. :thumbsup

-
I only listened for the last 30 or so minutes Danny Meyer seems to be right in this game up to his eyeballs. Good on the kid. At least hes having a fair crack at it.
-
I heard Rance called afew times as well in the last 30 or so minutes, does anyone know if he was playing down back or up forward, he was called having a shot for goal.
-
Inside 50s: 14-12 that qtr
Rawlings on 3WBC:
* Pleased with that. Rate Box Hill. Been unlucky this year.
* Good spread of good players. Schulz, Silvester a star, Polo, Petts was okay. Plenty of others.
* We've lost our main goalkickers in Bowden, Riewoldt, Morton and Hughes so we need a good spread of goalkicker.
* Tackling was best for the year.
* Important win as it's tight on the ladder.
-
Bests:
Silvester BOG
Shelton good in the middle
Edwards very good when he was on
Caruso lively 2 goals could have kicked more
Carrick was great. Lots of little men at Coburg.
Meyer a clean performance with poise
Connors up forward on the lead
Collins worked hismelf into the game.
The tall towers in Cartledge and Graham.
Hawthorn listed players were ordinary today. Boyle, Dowler, Dawson, etc. None of them stood up.
----------------------------------
Gus on 3WBC:
* They didn't have Renouf so decided to jump in early and get the body in and it worked.
* Ground ball he's always been good. Ruck work over last 2-3 weeks have come on along way so hopefully get a senior game soon.
* Hopes he is close to AFL selection. Been good over last month. Put on some weight after coming back from breaking his ankle last year.
* Good to form a duo with Cartledge. He's doing well.
* We won the clearances quite easily as the boys put themselves in the right spot at the stoppages.
-
Kingy on 3WBC:
* Good to be back with the boys. Haven't played at Coburg for a while.
* Nah no angry pills. Thought he was being good today (laughs). Just told Neville he was around. Just the way he's played footy since North Heidleberg. Only way he knows.
* Coburg should have won more games this year but they played well today.
* He missed 2 weeks before Carlton game. Lacking match-fitness. Not so much running but Plough and coaching staff just wanted him to do more out on the ground. Needed a permit to play today.

So Silvester won the 3WBC commentators BOG.
Next week Coburg plays Port Melbourne.

I know Box Hill are last but a good win at the end of the day. Won every quarter and good games from Connors, Gus and Meyer and Silvester and Cartledge both putting their hands up for promotion off the rookie list. Sounds like Connors is starting to run out games and give 4 quarters efforts over the last couple of weeks although he did play forward all day today. It must have been difficult to kick goals at the end with the breeze as we kicked 6.13 with it yet 12.1 into it ???.
The commentators must be Hawk tools as right at the end they were making fun of Richmond supporters calling us toothless and uneducated. We've not Collingwood lol. Thank god we don't have to put up with them again.
-
Big Gus excites me. Big, strong (or least getting there) mobile with his ruckwork on the improve. If he comes off, we look a much different team in 2-3 years with Lids, Foley and Cotch running through the mid field.
Meyer is another one who I'd love to see blossom. Lets hope he is over the injury woes and can really turn it on in the next 2 months.
-
Meyer is going well, seems to have his body right.
Hopefully he can stay on the track now.
He may be like Kel Moore, he has been playing good footy on the ball the last couple of weeks.

Good to hear TFL.
Did you see any of the ressies TFL? If so how did Cogs and the other RFC guys go?
-
Ramps: Rance played across half back - I really liked his game. Started slowy but improved as the game went on.
I really liked Danny Meyer's game took some really strong marks in the clinches.
Silvestor was very good again, his rebounding from defence was first rate. Cartledge very good, lot of footy smarts has Cartledge.
-
Promote Cartledge for next weeks game, drop Patto. Great idea, IT WONT happen though, it should but it wont
-
Herald-Sun report
It wasn't all good news for Richmond fans yesterday, with defender Andrew Raines suffering a left hamstring injury in the first quarter of Coburg's 52-point win against Box Hill in the senior game.
He played no further part in the match but Rawlings said he didn't think the injury was "anything too severe".
Richmond veteran Greg Tivendale led Coburg to its seventh win and fifth spot on the ladder with 33 possessions, while Jake King had 18 touches.
Box Hill lost its best player, Steve Kenna, to soreness late in the second term and was never in the hunt.
Hawks captain Alister Neville was his side's best with 13 kicks, 14 handballs and five tackles, while Hawthorn-listed Travis Tuck was prominent with 26 possessions.
"They kicked straight in the first quarter into the breeze and with the wind advantage that was too much," Box Hill coach Barry Mitchell said.

And will he make it those who've seen him play this year?
Or trade to the Gold Coast?
Does he have any trade value :banghead

Next week Coburg plays Port Melbourne.
Would love to know what game they were at.
Graham nowhere near 3, 2 or 1 votes. Box Hill had no rucks to speak of so we had an easy time tap wise. Gus had progressed yes and could very well make it AFL wise.
Thought Collins was the standout.
-
The Big Cat was by far BOG.
-
The Big Cat was by far BOG.
TFL; He started off slowly I thought (first 10 or so mins) after that he sensational. His run out of the back line was fantastic
-
Thanks to all for their comments - much appreciated from way out west. :clapping
-
Did Collard cop an injury too?

Does he have any trade value :banghead
Rainesy's contracted to 2009 Moi. Doesn't stop him from being traded but he can't be delisted. Rainesy has hardly played since round 2 so this year has basically been a write off for him. The only thing that would give him trade value is if other clubs think back to 2006. McGuane is the Queenslander out of contract this year.
-
Stats from EOTT:
Tivs 32 disposals
King 25 disposals, 8 tackles
Edwards 24 disposals
Schulz 22 disposals, 5 inside 50s
Polo 20 disposals
Petts 19 disposals, 3 goals but turnover rate detracted from his performance
Connors 17 disposals, 4 tackles, 2 goals
Collins is pushing his name in front of the AFL match committee although disposal by foot let him down. Rance's opportunity will come.
