Title: Best and worst round 22 memories
Post by: mightytiges on August 27, 2004, 06:40:43 PM
Best:

1995 - first time making the finals in 13 years.
1997 - comeback from 42 points down against the Blues at Princess Park to not only pinch the win but also knock 'em out of the finals.

Worst:

1998 - Getting flogged by Melbourne at the 'G when we needed to win to make the finals.

Best - Princess Park - easy.

Worst - Melbourne '98

Same for me MT.  The Melbourne one was bad because not only did we miss out on the finals, but just proved how rotten we were by the way we got flogged.  We never won (and we still don't)  big games that counted.

Blues game -  ;D

Best:

95 - Same as MT, coz we made the finals
97 - Against the blues, it was just awesome. I was sitting amongst heaps of Carlton supporters and they were organising their finals tickets at half time. I gave them heaps after the game!!

Worst

94 - Rd 22 against the cats at Princess Park, tigers have stormed home late in the season and need to beat the cats to make the finals. Ablett pulls out the morning of the game and all looks set for the Tigers to make the finals until Billy Brownless steps up and kicks 8 from memory.

I can also remember losing to North Melbourne in a Rd 22 at the G on a Sunday arvo, must have been around 2000.

Did anyone go back to the social club after the Melbourne game that year?
Leon Daphne really fired up - gave the boys heaps!

I remember the North game in 96. Dutchy had a shot late in the third quarter to put us 16 points up but missed and then North pinched two goals in the last 2 minutes to lead at the break. Broke our spirit. They came out and pumped us in the last  :(. We should have made the finals easily that year but we stuffed up losing a few close games by a point.

2000 was against Carlton. Yeah that was horrible too.

Worst- getting a 10 flogging by the swans in 1974 at Lakeside Oval, we still won the flag that year though !
Do you mean 1980 Jack? I was in the windy outer and kept getting sand in my beer. We were torn apart by Mark Browning but Disco took one of his standard screamers.

1998 the worst by a country mile. Totally deflating.

Beating Essendon in 2001 would be up there with the best.

We got beaten also by the Swans in the last round of 1980 and thus losing top position and having to play Carlton rather than having the week off as top teams did back then. Won the premiership also.

Too many nightmares to think about....that 94' was a sign of thigns to come in crunch last rd games.

Just like to add 2004 under the worst category  :'(. How to achieve a wooden spoon paying 100% of the salary cap  >:(.
